Richmond had been pitching with the Lotte Giants of the Korean Baseball Organization. The 33-year-old right-hander is set to report to extended spring training and will serve as organizational depth.

Scott Richmond has signed a one-year, $600,000 contract with the Lotte Giants of the Korean Baseball Organization.

Richmond made 24 starts for the Blue Jays back in 2009, but he's mostly been in the minors since then. He's struggled the last two years at Triple-A, posting a 7.33 ERA in 2011 and 5.61 ERA this past season.

Richmond was sidetracked this spring by a bit of arm fatigue and will open the year in the minors to work out any remaining issues. Once healthy, he will serve as insurance for the big league starting rotation.

It was his second bullpen session since being shut down due to shoulder soreness earlier this month. Richmond is scheduled to throw an inning against the Braves on Thursday, but he remains a longshot to make the Opening Day roster.

Richmond surrendered three earned runs in a two-inning outing against the Pirates last Thursday in his only appearance of the spring. The Jays are hoping that he will be able to return to the mound by the end of next week. He's a longshot to make the Opening Day roster.
