Rohlinger has been up with the Giants a couple times already this season and has spent time on the DL with a hamstring injury. He'll back up at a variety of positions with Eugenio Velez on the DL.

Giants optioned 3B Ryan Rohlinger to Triple-A Fresno.

With Edgar Renteria coming off the disabled list, there were simply too many infielders; Rohlinger drew the short straw and will head back to Triple-A. He hit .200/.273/.200 over 11 PAs in the majors.

Giants recalled infielder Ryan Rohlinger from Triple-A Fresno.

Rohlinger was hitting .333/.442/.506 and playing a lot more shortstop than third base in Triple-A. Considering that Juan Uribe has showed little range in his starts at shortstop this year, it might make sense for the Giants to keep him at second and play Rohlinger in Edgar Renteria's place for now. Rohlinger is a natural third baseman, but with Emmannuel Burriss injured as usual, the Giants don't have a legitimate backup shortstop in the organization.
