Astros manager Bo Porter said Saturday that he will give Robbie Grossman continued starts in center field.
Porter loves Grossman's defensive ability and his aggressiveness on the basepaths. But the athletic 23-year-old is hitting just .182/.280/.227 with two RBI and a pair of stolen bases through his first 76 plate appearances. Grossman has value in some AL-only leagues. May 11 - 8:34 PM

Robbie Grossman stole his first two bases of the season in the Astros' win over the Angels on Tuesday.

Grossman stole second base and third base off C.J. Wilson in the seventh inning, then came around to score. The outfielder scuffled immediately after his call-up last month but is currently riding an eight-game hitting streak in which he's batting .300. Leadoff for the Astros isn't the most glamorous role in baseball, but Grossman's ability to draw walks and steal bases makes him a worthwhile player to own in AL-only leagues while he's getting everyday playing time.

Astros manager Bo Porter said Friday that Robbie Grossman will get the chance to be the regular center fielder while Justin Maxwell (hand) is sidelined.

Grossman, who was called up from Triple-A Oklahoma City earlier this week, was a .269/.381/.389 batting line over parts of six seasons in the minors. Some doubt whether he'll be able to stick in center field in the long term, but his speed and on-base skills could be useful in AL-only fantasy leagues.

Making his major league debut, Robbie Grossman doubled twice as the Astros' leadoff man Wednesday against the Mariners.

Grossman was thrust right into the lineup after replacing Justin Maxwell on the Astros' roster. We're skeptical about his ability to hit for average and he doesn't have much in the way of power, but if the Astros are going to play him regularly, he'll be worth using in AL-only leagues.

Astros recalled OF Robbie Grossman from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Grossman will replace the injured Justin Maxwell (hand) on the active roster and could see semi-regular playing time in the Astros' outfield. The 23-year-old switch-hitter owns a .269/.381/.389 batting line over parts of six seasons in the minors. With his speed and on-base skills, he could have some modest value in AL-only formats.

The Astros will recall Robbie Grossman from Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to Wednesday's game.

He will replace the injured Justin Maxwell on the roster, and it's possible he'll replace him as the regular center fielder. Acquired from the Pirates in last year's Wandy Rodriguez deal, Grossman is batting .324/.452/.353 with two steals this season for Oklahoma City. His calling card is his on-base skills, but Grossman has some speed and a little bit of pop. He could have some AL-only value if he gets regular at-bats.

Astros purchased the contract of OF Robbie Grossman from Double-A Corpus Christi.

Grossman was acquired this summer in the trade that sent left-hander Wandy Rodriguez to the Pirates. The 23-year-old outfielder posted a .786 OPS, 10 home runs and 47 RBI in 131 games this past season in the minors.

Astros acquired OF Robbie Grossman from the Pirates.

He's the best prospect the 'Stros pick up in the Wandy Rodriguez deal. Some scouts question whether Grossman can remain in center field, but he has great on-base skills and some pop and speed. He's batted .262/.374/.403 with seven homers and nine steals this season at Double-A Altoona.

Jon Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that outfield prospect Robbie Grossman and infield prospect Alen Hanson are going to the Astros in the Wandy Rodriguez deal.

It's not clear yet if there are others involved. Grossman is a pretty good get for the Astros, as he has terrific plate discipline, a bit of pop and some speed. Batting .262/.374/.403 this season at Double-A Altoona, he could end up being an above-average regular if he can stay in center field. Hanson was ranked only as the Pirates' 27th-best prospect by Baseball America coming into the year, but he's had a terrific year at Low-A West Virginia, batting .319/.383/.552 with 15 homers and 27 steals.

Pirates prospect outfielder Robbie Grossman is scheduled to hamate bone surgery on his right hand this week.

Grossman suffered the injury while playing in the Arizona Fall League. The 22-year-old improved his prospect stock immensely this season by batting .294/.418/.451 with 13 homers, 56 RBI, 24 stolen bases and an .869 OPS over 616 plate appearances in his second year with High-A Bradenton. It's unlikely the injury will have an impact on his availability for spring training, but it could affect his power production in 2012.
