Astros optioned OF Robbie Grossman to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Grossman went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts Tuesday, which was apparently the final straw as it dropped his batting line to .125/.236/.313. The Astros are calling up top prospect George Springer to take Grossman's spot on the roster. Grossman will get another shot later this summer. Apr 16 - 12:29 AM

Robbie Grossman hit a two-run homer and walked twice against the Blue Jays on Thursday.

That's an improvement. Grossman entered the night with a .063 average, no runs scored and one RBI in 32 at-bats this season.

Dropped to eighth in the order, Robbie Grossman went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts on Wednesday.

The Astros redid their lineup at the end of the spring because of how impressed they were with Grossman, moving him up to second and going with Jose Altuve in the cleanup spot. It ended up lasting less than a week and a half with Grossman off to a 2-for-29 start. Now he's 2-for-32 with 12 strikeouts and still no runs scored. Fortunately for him, the Astros don't have anyone else they'd rather play in left field right now, so Grossman will get a chance to snap out of the funk.

Astros manager Bo Porter indicated Wednesday that Robbie Grossman will get at-bats out of the No. 2 spot this season.

Jose Altuve was originally slated to be the No. 2 hitter behind Dexter Fowler, but he could now slide into the No. 3 spot. Grossman, 24, batted .268/.332/.370 with four homers and six stolen bases over 63 games last season and has some appeal as a late-round option in mixed leagues.
Mar 26 - 3:10 PM

Jose de Jesus Ortiz of the Houston Chronicle has confirmed a Yahoo! Sports report that the Astros have discussed an extension with Robbie Grossman's agents.

Ortiz says the deal would lock Grossman up beyond his arbitration years. Grossman isn't slated for arbitration eligibility until after the 2016 season, so the deal would obviously be a lengthy one. The 24-year-old batted .268/.332/.370 with four homers and six stolen bases over 63 games for the Astros last season. He's a career .269/.381/.387 hitter in the minors.

Robbie Grossman went 2-for-3 with his first home run of the spring Saturday against the Tigers.

Grossman opened the spring as the favorite to start in left field for the Astros, and he's only widened his lead since; he's batting .417 in 24 at-bats. With his modest power, Grossman doesn't have a whole lot of fantasy upside, but he does have a chance to be useful in AL-only leagues.

Robbie Grossman (oblique) is still unable to swing pain-free.

Grossman has missed the last three weeks due to a strained right oblique, and it appears he's yet to make significant progress. The Astros have yet to officially shut him down, but it would be a longshot to think he could play sometime this week.

Robbie Grossman (oblique) has begun hitting off a tee, but still doesn't appear close to returning to the Astros.

Grossman hasn't appeared in a game since sustaining the injury on September 3. The Astros don't want to rush him back and risk re-injury, and time is running out for him to return before the end of the season. The 24-year-old outfielder is slashing .268/.332/.370 with four homers, 21 RBI and six stolen bases in his rookie season.

The Astros don't have a timetable for Robbie Grossman's (oblique) return.

Grossman suffered the injury during an at-bat last Tuesday and hasn't played since. "He's starting to increase his activity each and every day," said Porter, "but again you're talking oblique. Is he going to be able to swing pain-free? That remains to be seen." Trevor Crowe, the biggest beneficiary of Grossman's bad luck, has started nine games since rejoining the team on Aug. 31, batting .364 with five RBI. NL-only owners in need of a stopgap could do worse than adding Crowe until Grossman returns.

Robbie Grossman (oblique) is hoping to take batting practice soon.

Grossman has missed the last four games with a strained right oblique, but he's feeling improvement. "It’s feeling better every day, getting more range of motion without any pain, so I’m hoping the next couple days I can get some (batting practice)," Grossman said.

Robbie Grossman (oblique) missed his third consecutive game on Friday, and remains without a timetable for his return to the Astros lineup.

The club is playing it very cautiously with their injured outfielder, as they don't want to risk re-injury. While Grossman is expected to return before the end of the season, it is far from a certainty that he'll do so.

Robbie Grossman left Tuesday's game in the 12th inning because he tweaked his right oblique muscle on a swing.

Consider him day-to-day. "We'll see how I feel tomorrow and go from there," Grossman said on Tuesday. "I pulled my oblique like four years ago. It's a different one. … I'm just going to go day to day to see how I am."

Robbie Grossman finished 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI in Friday's 12-4 win over the Blue Jays.

Grossman now owns a 10-game hitting streak and is hitting .347 since returning from the minors on July 28. Hitting leadoff in the Astros' lineup, the 23-year-old outfielder is doing enough in all categories to warrant consideration in deeper mixed fantasy leagues.

Robbie Grossman went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI against the Red Sox on Tuesday.

Grossman filled up the stat sheet, launching a two-run homer off Brandon Workman in the second inning and later stealing a base as well. The homer was his second of the year, and the stolen base gave him six in 10 attempts. The 23-year-old has a nine-game hitting streak in which he's batted 15-for-32 (.469) with eight runs scored.

Robbie Grossman went 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored against the Orioles on Tuesday.

Grossman was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City on July 26 after hitting just .198/.310/.243 in his first go-round with the big club. His second time around started off a little better, as he recorded three hits in just his second game back. He's still nothing more than a deep AL-only option at this point.
