Robbie Grossman will start at designated hitter and bat ninth in Tuesday's AL Wild Card Game against the Yankees.
It became inevitable after Miguel Sano (shin) was ruled out for the game. Grossman faded significantly in the second half, but he did put up a .795 OPS in 21 games after returning from a fractured thumb last month. The full lineup for Minnesota against Luis Severino: Brian Dozier 2B, Joe Mauer 1B, Jorge Polanco SS, Eddie Rosario LF, Eduardo Escobar 3B, Max Kepler RF, Byron Buxton CF, Jason Castro C, Robbie Grossman DH. Ervin Santana is the starting pitcher for the Twins. Oct 3 - 3:46 PM

Date:

Robbie Grossman went 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored in a win over the Tigers on Saturday.

He poked an RBI single in the seventh inning that plated Ehire Adrianza. In the eighth inning he drove in two more runs with another single as the Twins scored eight runs in the inning. The designated hitter has a .249 batting average with nine home runs, 45 RBI and 62 runs scored in 439 plate appearances.
Sep 23 - 9:57 PM

Robbie Grossman went 1-for-3 with an RBI sac fly, a stolen base and two runs scored in a win over the Tigers on Thursday.

The stolen base was just the third of the year for Grossman. The 28-year-old has been finding his way into the lineup with some frequency this year, and he's responded by hitting .246/.366/.385 with nine homers in 112 games.
Sep 22 - 1:19 AM

Robbie Grossman will hit ninth Saturday versus the Blue Jays.

It's his second start out of the ninth spot in the past couple of days. It's not often you see a DH batting ninth, but the Twins like the idea of using him essentially as a second leadoff man in front of Brian Dozier. Grossman is batting .360/.433/.840 over nine games since returning from a fractured thumb.

Robbie Grossman homered off Rays closer Alex Colome in his first game back from the disabled list Tuesday.

Unfortunately, it was a solo shot with the Twins down by two. Still, it was a good sign for Grossman, who is playing even though his fractured left thumb isn't completely healed. He's expected to be limited to facing right-handers for now.
Sep 5 - 9:51 PM

Twins activated OF Robbie Grossman from the 10-day disabled list.

Grossman went 1-for-7 with a couple of walks during a brief minor league rehab stint. The switch-hitter suffered a fractured left thumb on August 17, but he's trying to contribute down the stretch while swinging exclusively from the left side of the plate.
Sep 5 - 2:05 PM

Robbie Grossman (thumb) went 0-for-4 with a strikeout and a run scored Sunday in his first minor league rehab game with Triple-A Rochester.

Grossman served as the designated hitter in his first game since suffering a fractured left thumb on August 17. He's slated to play in Rochester's regular season finale on Monday before rejoining the Twins on Tuesday. Grossman is currently limited to swinging from the left side of the plate.
Sep 4 - 9:26 AM

Robbie Grossman (thumb) is set to go on a rehab assignment, even though he's only able to swing from the left side.

The switch-hitting Grossman suffered a fractured left thumb two weeks ago. It's hard to say whether he'd be able to help the Twins batting only left-handed; his splits have been pretty even this year, but he's been significantly better as a right-hander over the course of his career. He wasn't hitting very well from either side in the two months before he got hurt.
Sep 2 - 4:36 PM

Twins placed OF/DH Robbie Grossman on the 10-day disabled list with a fractured left thumb.

Grossman suffered the injury a collision with Byron Buxton on Thursday. He's expected to be sidelined for a minimum of three weeks. Mitch Garver has replaced Grossman on the roster and should see his fair share of starts. Eduardo Escobar also figures to see an uptick in playing time.
Aug 18 - 12:40 PM

Updating an earlier report, Robbie Grossman left Thursday's game against the Indians with a fractured left thumb.

Grossman injured himself in a collision with Byron Buxton in the third inning and was later replaced by Max Kepler. The injury is expected to sideline Grossman for at least three weeks. The 27-year-old has hit .243 with seven homers and 35 RBI over 317 at-bats for Minnesota this season.
Aug 17 - 9:49 PM

Robbie Grossman left the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Indians with a left thumb injury.

He injured himself in a near-collision with Byron Buxton in center field. Max Kepler pinch-hit for Grossman and replaced him in right field. Grossman singled in his only at-bat before exiting.
Aug 17 - 8:52 PM

Robbie Grossman went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer and two runs scored Friday versus the Rangers.

Grossman took Martin Perez deep in the first inning and the Twins never looked back. He’s now up to seven homers on the year, but this was his first since way back on June 2. The 27-year-old sports a strong .380 on-base percentage this season, which comes in handy depending on league settings, but his fantasy upside is limited in standard formats.
Aug 5 - 1:14 AM

Robbie Grossman went 2-for-3 with a walk against the Orioles on Saturday.

Both hits were singles and he didn't factor into the scoring. He has a .253/.379/.386 slash line with six home runs and 26 RBI in 281 plate appearances. He's not exactly the ideal clean-up hitter but that is the role he's been thrust into for the Twins.
Jul 8 - 5:35 PM

Robbie Grossman went 3-for-4 with a double versus the Giants on Friday.

He was picked off after one of the hits. Unfortunately, Grossman isn't really good at anything on the field despite getting on base; he's a poor outfielder and he's just 18-for-32 stealing bases in his career. The .410 OBP goes a long way, though, and the Twins will keep him in the lineup until it drops.
Jun 10 - 1:48 AM

Robbie Grossman went 2-for-4 with a double, a two-run home run and three runs scored in Friday's game at L.A. Angels.

Grossman has been rolling up plenty of hits lately, posting multi-hit efforts in seven of his past 13 games (11 starts). He is 16-for-45 (.356) with four home runs and nine RBI since May 18 to raise his average from .238 to .279 to emerge as a solid play in most AL-only fantasy formats and some deeper mixed leagues.
