Red Sox claimed RHP Ramon Ramirez off waivers from the Rays.

Ramirez, who turned 27 in September, was 6-7 with a 4.03 ERA and 78/50 K/BB ratio in 127 1/3 innings at Triple-A Louisville this past season. He's a longshot to make Boston's Opening Day roster, but it's certainly worth noting that the Red Sox now boast two pitchers named Ramon Ramirez.

The Red Sox have claimed right-hander Ramon Ramirez off waivers from the Rays, Boston GM Theo Epstein revealed Tuesday.

The club will find out Wednesday if they got him. Ramirez was claimed off waivers from Cincinnati by back in November, only to be placed on outright release waivers. The 27-year-old Ramirez was 6-7 with a 4.03 ERA and 78/50 K/BB ratio in 127 1/3 innings at Triple-A Louisville this past season. If he joins Boston, he will compete for a bullpen spot as well as cause massive confusion as to which Ramon Ramirez is being called into the game.

Rays released RHP Ramon Ramirez.

Tampa Bay claimed Ramirez off waivers from the Reds in November, but he wasn't even given a chance. The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster, possibly for a free agent signing. The 27-year-old Ramirez was 6-7 with a 4.03 ERA and 78/50 K/BB ratio in 127 1/3 innings at Triple-A Louisville. He'll likely find a minor league deal with an invite to spring training this winter.

Rays claimed RHP Ramon Ramirez off waivers from the Reds.

Not to be confused with the far superior Ramon Ramirez who remains property of the Red Sox, this one went 6-7 with a 4.03 ERA and 78/50 K/BB ratio in 127 1/3 innings at Triple-A this season. He could be a useful middle man.

Reds recalled RHP Ramon Ramirez from Triple-A Louisville.

Ramirez allowed two earned runs in 2 1/3 innings in one appearance for the Reds earlier this season. He will work in long relief.

Ramon Ramirez and Kevin Barker have joined the Reds, but roster moves involving each have not yet been announced.

The Reds also have to make a roster move to make room for Monday night's starter Johnny Cueto. The guess is that Ramirez and Barker will join the team officially when roster's expand on Tuesday.

Reds optioned RHP Ramon Ramirez to Triple-A Louisville.

Ramirez was 0-3 with a 5.08 ERA in seven starts at the Triple-A level and didn't fare any better in the bigs. In his lone appearance Thursday night, he allowed two earned runs in 2 1/3 innings.

Reds recalled RHP Ramon Ramirez from Triple-A Louisville.

Reds optioned RHP Ramon Ramirez and 2B Danny Richar to Triple-A Louisville; reassigned RHP Jeff Kennard and LHP Ron Flores to minor league camp.

The Reds must have been pretty upset that Ramirez went to play for Venezuela in the WBC, because they gave him no opportunity at all to win a job, even though he had a 2.67 ERA in four starts and a relief appearance down the stretch for the team last season. Richar finished 3-for-27 in his attempt to win a bench job.

Ramon Ramirez surrendered five unearned runs and a homer in relief versus the Twins on Thursday.

Ramirez was awfully impressive down the stretch for the Reds last season, posting a 2.67 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP in four starts and a relief appearances, but it doesn't look like he's being taken seriously as a contender for a spot in this year's rotation. This certainly won't help his case.

Ramon Ramirez took his first loss despite allowing just two runs over five innings Wednesday against the Astros.

Lance Berkman's homer accounted for both runs. Ramirez finishes 1-1 with a 2.67 ERA in four starts and one relief appearances. He still projects as a long-term reliever, but he'll be considered for a spot in next year's rotation.

Ramon Ramirez picked up his first major league victory Friday after limiting the Brewers to two runs over six innings.

Ramirez has three solid starts under his belt and is looking like a decent pickup in deep mixed leagues. He's sporting a 2.45 ERA over 22 innings this season and will get the Astros in his final start.

Ramon Ramirez held the Brewers to one run and one hit in six innings in a no-decision Tuesday.

Ramirez walked four, but only the one he issued to start the game hurt him. Rickie Weeks worked the base on balls and then came around to score on Prince Fielder's single in the first. After Fielder was caught stealing in the third, Ramirez retired the final 10 hitters he faced. He's set to remain in the rotation for the rest of the season with Josh Fogg down. Since he'll get the Cardinals twice and the Brewers again, making him a weaker bet for victories, he's still not a very good pickup.

Ramon Ramirez will start in place of Josh Fogg (groin) on Tuesday.

Fogg expects to miss just one start. Ramirez was solid in his major league debut a few weeks ago but he isn't a good fantasy option.
