Gil Velazquez had his best game as a Marlin in Thursday’s loss to the Braves, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

This is the first time that the 32-year-old journeyman infielder has received more than eight at-bats in a major league season. He’s held his own to this point, hitting .270 (10-for-37) with one RBI. His RBI double off Tommy Hanson in the fourth inning was the first extra-base hit of his MLB career.

Velazquez had brief stints with the Red Sox in 2008 and 2009, but has spent the majority of his professional career in the minor leagues. The 31-year-old batted .328/.399/.466 with eight homers, 58 RBI and an .865 OPS over 494 plate appearances at the Triple-A level this season. He'll provide some infield depth in September, but won't carry any fantasy value.
