Steve Tolleson left Friday's game against the Yankees after colliding with Francisco Peña.

The two were chasing a pop-up. Tolleson said he jarred his back and got the wind knocked out of him, but he wanted to remain in the game. He should be fine.

Tolleson made the most of his lone at-bat in the contest, blasting a no-doubter to left field off Buddy Boshers, capping off the scoring in the contest. He's competing for a spot on the O's bench to begin the season, but hitting just .158 this spring.

Tolleson is a career .245/.299/.372 hitter over parts of four big league seasons but offers plenty of defensive versatility. He played in 29 games with the Orioles in 2012.

He cleared waivers after being designated for assignment and will remain with the organization. Tolleson could get another shot with the big club at some point.

He had been scheduled to begin on Friday, but the game was rained out. The reserve infielder is working his way back from a strained groin that has sidelined him since late May.

The Blue Jays designated Tolleson for assignment on April 24. He got 16 plate appearances with the team this season and didn't do much with them, but over 170 at-bats in 2014, he hit .253/.308/.371. He offers some versatility and his bat plays OK for a utility role.

The 31-year-old hit just .200/.250/.400 with five strikeouts in his 16 plate appearances with the Jays. With his versatility, there's a chance that Tolleson could attract interest on waivers, otherwise he'll continue to provide organizational infield depth for the Jays.

Tolleson was hit by a pitch during Saturday's game. The 31-year-old has a shot to crack the Opening Day roster as a utility player with Maicer Izturis (groin) slated to open the year on the disabled list.

Steve Tolleson will have precautionary X-rays taken of his right hand after being hit by a pitch Saturday.

"I'm not too worried about it," Tolleson told reporters Saturday. Indications are that it's not broken, but the Jays just want to be sure. More will be known about his injury status after the results of the test come back.
