Mike Baxter came off the bench to deliver his second game-winning hit in three days Thursday, pushing the Mets past the Pirates 3-2.
Baxter won Tuesday's game with a pinch-hit single in the 10th and did the same in the ninth inning tonight. In both cases, Bobby Parnell, now 4-0, was the beneficiary. Unfortunately, if Baxter keeps this up, he's going to get a reputation of being too valuable off the bench to insert into the starting lineup. May 9 - 11:09 PM

Mike Baxter delivered a pinch-hit single to lead the Mets to victory over the White Sox on Tuesday.

The reserve outfielder has been used a pinch hitter a few times this season, and he came through in the clutch on Tuesday. Still, the 28-year-old has been unable to win a full-time gig as part of an underwhelming Mets outfield group. Until he wins a starting job, he should be ignored in all but deep NL-only leagues.

Mike Baxter went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and two walks in the Mets' 10-7 victory over the Cardinals on Sunday.

Baxter homered off Fernando Salas. He entered camp as the favorite to start in right field against right-handers, but after being outplayed by all of the competition, he's just fighting to keep his roster spot at this point. Even after today, he's hitting .200/.353/.300 with two RBI for the spring.

Mike Baxter struck out three times and was hit by a pitch Friday against the Tigers.

Baxter is just 2-for-19 this spring as he attempts to nail down the primary right field job. He'll likely have a roster spot, but as badly as he's getting outplayed right now, he might find himself in a bench role again.
Mar 8 - 4:44 PM

Mike Baxter launched a solo homer in a losing effort against the Phillies on Thursday.

Baxter finished the night 1-for-3. His solo shot was the only run that the Mets could muster on the evening. He's done a nice job in limited duty on the season, hitting .258/.359/.417 with three homers, 16 RBI and five stolen bases in 163 at-bats.

Mike Baxter walked all five times he was up Saturday against the Padres.

Baxter is the second player this year to walk five times in a game and the first to do it in a nine-inning game (Alex Gordon went 0-for-3 with five walks back in June). He's the first player since Florida's Ivan Rodriguez (!!!) on April 8, 2003 to go 0-for-0 with five unintentional walks. Unfortunately, he scored just once tonight, as the Mets' No. 7-9 hitters combined to go 0-for-12.

Mets activated OF Mike Baxter from the 15-day disabled list.

The 27-year-old outfielder has been out since the beginning of June with a displaced collarbone. Baxter doesn't have a clear path to playing time behind Jason Bay, but could be used as a platoon option. The Queens native hit a blistering .323/.392/.523 in 74 plate appearances earlier this year before hitting the shelf.

Mike Baxter (collarbone) has begun hitting off a tee.

Baxter is currently working his way back from a displaced right collarbone suffered when he ran into the wall to keep Johan Santana's no-hit bid intact on June 1. It's not clear when he'll be ready for a rehab assignment.
