Giants signed INF Ramiro Pena to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

The 30-year-old infielder had a nice 2015 campaign at Triple-A El Paso, slashing .308/.352/.409 with four homers and 57 RBI in 447 plate appearances.

Padres signed INF Ramiro Pena to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Pena, 29, batted .245/.304/.347 in 81 games with the Braves last season. He'll try to secure a bench job in the spring.

Ramiro Pena has elected free agency.

Pena was designated for assignment to make room on the Braves' 40-man roster, and he's chosen to test the market rather than accept an assignment to Triple-A Gwinnett. The 29-year-old batted .245/.304/.347 in 81 games with the Braves this past season.

Braves sent INF Ramiro Pena outright to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Pena was designated for assignment earlier in the week to make room on the 40-man roster. He was arbitration eligible this winter, which may have played a role in the move as well. It's unclear if he'll accept the assignment or attempt to find a better opportunity elsewhere through free agency.

Braves designated 2B Ramiro Pena for assignment.

Pena batted .245/.304/.347 in a reserve role this past season. The 29-year-old was removed from the 40-man roster so the club could protect some young players from the upcoming Rule 5 Draft.

Ramiro Pena went 2-for-4 with a homer as the Braves' No. 9 hitter on Monday.

If the Braves decide to replace Dan Uggla, it's expected to be with Triple-A Gwinnett's Tommy La Stella. Pena, though, is probably a better defender than both of those guys, and he's been a reasonable enough hitter in 129 at-bats over the last two years. He likely earned himself another start on Tuesday anyway.

Ramiro Pena belted a three-run homer, his first of the season, in Friday's extra-inning win over the Nationals.

Pena's long ball off Tanner Roark highlighted a four-run uprising in the second inning. With his 1-for-4 effort on Friday, the light-hitting infielder is now hitting .222/.222/.556 in limited action on the year.

Ramiro Pena doubled twice and drove in a run against the Mets on Sunday.

Pena was a nice surprise for the Braves last year, hitting .278/.330/.443 in 97 at-bats, before going down with a torn labrum. He's healthy now and ready to serve as a backup throughout the infield. He probably won't hit so well again, but if he does, he should steal time away from Dan Uggla at second. He is the better defender of the two, after all.

Ramiro Pena (shoulder) will not have any restrictions at the start of spring camp.

Pena hit .278/.330/.443 in 107 plate appearances last season prior to undergoing shoulder surgery in June. The 28-year-old projects to begin the season as a utility infielder.

Braves and INF Ramiro Pena avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract.

No word on the terms involved. Pena, who was arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter, hit .278/.330/.443 in 107 plate appearances this year prior to undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery in June. However, the Braves are apparently confident that he'll be fine for 2014.

Braves transferred INF Ramiro Pena from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

Pena underwent season-ending shoulder surgery in late June. This was merely a procedural move.

The Braves may look to trade for a backup infielder and left-handed bench bat via a waivers trade this month.

Ramiro Pena's season ended due to a torn right labrum in June. Earlier this week, Braves general manager Frank Wren was able to pull off a trade for Angels' reliever Scott Downs, who filled perhaps Atlanta's most pressing hole, but couldn't consummate a swap to fortify his bench. "I think there's a good chance (of another trade), once we have a better sense, get guys healthy, get the team functioning the way we see it functioning going forward - that's short of other injuries," Wren said. "I think we'll probably have some other activity, but all in all we're pretty happy. The club is playing as well as we've played all year long. There're a lot of positives."

Ramiro Pena will undergo surgery on Thursday to repair a torn right labrum.

No timetable for his return has been given, but it would presumably be season-ending. Pena originally hurt the shoulder on June 9 and was finally placed on the DL late last week.

Ramiro Pena will receive a second opinion on his ailing right shoulder on Wednesday.

Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez declined to not what the first diagnosis is, which probably isn't a good sign. Pena originally hurt the shoulder on June 9 and was finally placed on the DL late last week.
