Nationals signed C Jhonatan Solano to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Solano originally signed with the Nationals in 2005 and spent the first two seasons of his major league career with the club. The 30-year-old appeared in seven games with the Marlins last season and spent the majority of the year in Triple-A. He's likely to serve as organizational depth in 2016.

Solano was designated for assignment by the Marlins over the weekend and passed through waivers unclaimed. The 29-year-old catcher will continue to function as organizational depth for Miami. He has only logged 108 career plate appearances at the major league level.
