Jaff Decker will start in center field in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Orioles.

Meanwhile, Desmond Jennings is on the bench. Decker has played both corner outfield spots since joining the Rays earlier this month, but this will be his first start in center field. Taylor Motter is making the start in right field Saturday while Corey Dickerson is in left. The newly-acquired Oswaldo Arcia isn't in the lineup, but he could be for Game Two. He figures to see time between DH and right field.

Rays purchased the contract of OF Jaff Decker from Triple-A Durham.

Decker will give the Rays some much-needed outfield depth with Steven Souza injuring his hip on Tuesday night. Decker was batting .233/.351/.358 with five home runs and 13 stolen bases in 54 games this season at the Triple-A level. He's not relevant to mixed fantasy leagues.

According to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times, the Rays are calling up Jaff Decker.

That's a pretty strong indication that Steven Souza (hip) is more than just day-to-day. Decker, 26, has batted .233/.351/.358 with five home runs and 13 stolen bases in 54 games this season at Triple-A Durham. If he gets regular playing time, the speed might give him some temporary value in AL-only fantasy leagues.

Rays signed OF Jaff Decker to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Decker was non-tendered by the Pirates last month but should have a decent chance of capturing a bench job with the Rays. He spent most of last season at Triple-A, hitting .266/.370/.362 with three homers and 18 steals.

Pirates non-tendered OF Jaff Decker.

Decker was considered a Top-100 prospect in 2010, but he's yet to live up to those lofty expectations. In 218 at-bats with Triple-A Indianapolis in 2015, he slashed .266/.370/.362. He also saw 28 at-bats with the big league club, notching six hits in that space. He'll be looking for a new home now that he's been non-tendered.

Pirates recalled OF Jaff Decker from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Decker will be used as a lefty bat off the bench after hitting .266/.370/.362 in 218 at-bats in Triple-A. He'll probably be behind Travis Snider in line for a spot on the Pirates' bench in the postseason.

The move clears a roster spot for Michael Morse, who was acquired on July 31 for Jose Tabata. Decker, 25, has logged just 13 at-bats this season at the major league level.

Pirates activated OF Jaff Decker from the 15-day disabled list; optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Decker had a chance to compete for a reserve outfielder role with the Pirates during the spring, but a left calf strain put an end to that dream. He should get an opportunity with the big league club at some point during the 2015 campaign.

Jaff Decker (calf) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday.

Decker went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in his first game. It's not clear how many rehab games he'll play, but the outfielder could be optioned to Triple-A once he's deemed ready.

Jaff Decker is expected to open the season on the disabled list with a left calf strain.

The injury was initially called a "tweak," but that clearly wasn't entirely true. Decker got his cleats stuck while trying to leave the batter's box Sunday in a Grapefruit League game and hasn't played since. He'll remain sidelined through mid-April.

Jaff Decker told reporters Monday morning that his left calf is "feeling a lot better."

Decker tweaked the calf Sunday in a Grapefruit League game when his cleats got caught while he was leaving the batter's box. He had to be helped off the field, but this doesn't sound like a major injury.

Decker had to be helped off the field, suggesting that it might not be a minor tweak. The injury probably means that the outfielder will begin the season on the disabled list.
