Brett Jackson (shoulder) is expected back in the lineup Thursday.

He's been out of commission for over a week due to right shoulder inflammation. Jackson will begin the season at Triple-A while he works on his new swing.
Mar 26 - 7:35 PM

Brett Jackson will be sidelined for at least a week with right shoulder inflammation.

An MRI confirmed that Jackson isn't dealing with any structural damage, but there's no reason for the Cubs to take any chances at this point. Jackson is expected to open this season at Triple-A Iowa, so the injury will likely prevent him from making the Opening Day roster.
Mar 16 - 2:43 PM

Brett Jackson is not in the lineup Friday due to some minor soreness in his right shoulder.

It's not considered to be a big deal. Jackson should return to action in a few days.
Mar 15 - 12:15 PM

Brett Jackson is making a strong impression early in spring training and feels that his new swing is a major reason for his success.

After struggling to make consistent contact last season, Jackson worked hard over the offseason to completely overhaul his swing. He tallied three hits in an intersquad game on Friday and is confident he'll keep rolling when the actual games begin. He's still slated to open the season at Triple-A Iowa, but he could force his way onto the Opening Day roster with an impressive spring.
Feb 22 - 8:59 PM

Cubs manager Dale Sveum said Tuesday that Brett Jackson has completely overhauled his swing.

Jackson recently spent time with Sveum and and the Cubs hitting coaches in Mesa and has apparently made "huge strides." "I think he's got a good base to work with going into the rest of the winter and going into Spring Training to understand the art of hitting, so to speak," said Sveum. "Sometimes it gets lost and taught the wrong way." Jackson, 24, batted just .175/.303/.342 with 59 strikeouts over 142 plate appearances during his first taste of the big leagues this past season and is expected to begin 2013 in the minors.

Brett Jackson is expected to begin next season at Triple-A Iowa.

Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein conceded that Jackson wasn't ready for the majors when he was promoted in August, and the outfielder went on to bat just .175/.303/.342 while striking out 59 times over 142 plate appearances. However, the team thought he would benefit from having to make adjustments at the big league-level, as well as taking tutelage from the coaching staff. The 24-year-old is still the center fielder of the future, but they're not ready to hand him the everyday job just yet. It's possible he could change their thinking if he mashes in spring training.

Brett Jackson (knee) is out of the Cubs' starting lineup again Tuesday.

There was some optimism that he would be ready to return Tuesday, but the Cubs will give him at least another day to recover. The rookie outfielder hasn't played since bruising his right knee when he ran into the center field fence last Friday.

Brett Jackson (knee) could return to the Cubs' lineup Tuesday.

Jackson hasn't played since he bruised his right knee running into the center field wall on Friday after making an excellent catch. It's not a serious concern, but he was given another day of rest Monday since the Astros had left-hander Dallas Keuchel.

Brett Jackson (knee) is not in Sunday's lineup and appears to be a few days away from returning to action.

Jackson hurt himself Friday when he ran into the center field wall following a great running catch. ESPN Chicago's Doug Padilla noted that the young outfielder wasn't walking with as much of a limp Sunday and his range of motion was improved.

Brett Jackson was diagnosed with a bruised right knee after undergoing precautionary X-rays.

Good news, as things could have been much worse. Jackson ran into the center field fence while making a running catch during Friday's game, but he managed to avoid serious injury. Consider him day-to-day.
Fri, Sep 7, 2012 09:42:00 PM

Brett Jackson left Friday's game against the Cubs after running into the center field fence.

Jackson made an excellent running catch to rob Andrew McCutchen of extra bases to end the bottom of the sixth inning, but he then slammed right into the chain-link fence at full speed. He was on the ground for a couple moments while being examined by a team trainer, but managed to get to his feet and walk off the field under his own power. Tony Campana pinch-hit for him to begin the seventh. The exact nature of his injury isn't yet known, but he will likely be sent for concussion tests.
