Austin Romine went 2-for-3 with an RBI double and a run scored Friday in a win over the Blue Jays.
Romine was just 1-for-16 coming into Friday's action. The 24-year-old backstop should get a chance at regular at-bats while Chris Stewart nurses a groin injury, so he could be worth a short-term look in AL-only leagues. May 17 - 9:53 PM

Yankees recalled C Austin Romine from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

With Francisco Cervelli (hand) sidelined, Romine should see extended playing time in a part-time role with Chris Stewart. Romine was hitting .341/.400/.415 with a home run and four RBI through his first 13 games with the Yankees' Triple-A affiliate and could have value in AL-only and deeper mixed leagues.

Austin Romine was removed from Friday's game at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after Francisco Cervelli left Friday's game with a right hand injury.

Presumably, it means that the Yankees think Cervelli's injury is bad and are planning to recall Romine to take his place. If that does occur, Romine could have fantasy appeal in AL-only and deeper mixed leagues. The 24-year-old backstop is hitting .341/.400/.415 with a homer and four RBI through his first 13 games at Triple-A.

Yankees optioned C Austin Romine, LHP Francisco Rondon and RHPs Dellin Betances and Brett Marshall to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre; optioned LHPs Manny Banuelos and Nik Turley, RHP Jose Ramirez and OF Ramon Flores to Double-A Trenton; reassigned RHP Chase Whitley, C J.R. Murphy and 1B Luke Murton to minor league camp.

Romine is the noteworthy cut here, though he was expected to begin the season in the minors. The 22-year-old backstop was limited to just 31 minor league games last season due to a back injury and has limited experience above Double-A, so he could probably use some more seasoning. But he could be bound for the majors soon, especially if Francisco Cervelli and Chris Stewart get off to a slow start.
Mar 11 - 5:17 PM

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Wednesday that he believes prospect catcher Austin Romine will likely begin the season in the minors.

This means the Yankees will likely go with Francisco Cervelli and Chris Stewart on the Opening Day roster, barring any late acquisitions. Romine, 22, was limited to just 31 minor league games last season due to a back injury and has limited experience above Double-A, so it's probably the right call for his development. Still, Cervelli and Stewart don't inspire much confidence.

Austin Romine (lower back) has been cleared for a minor league rehab assignment.

Romine has been on the disabled list since the end of spring training, but there could be an opening for him behind Russell Martin later this season. He'll report to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre when healthy.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Wednesday that Austin Romine (back) is "a couple of weeks away from playing in a game."

Romine has been sidelined all season with a lower back injury. He'll be optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre once he's back to full health.

Austin Romine (back) is out until at least July.

Romine has been on the disabled list since the end of spring training with a lower back strain and is still battling through inflammation. The 23-year-old will report to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre once he's healthy.

Yankees placed C Austin Romine on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 26, with a lower back strain.

Romine was diagnosed with inflammation in his back early in Yankees' camp and hasn't been able to shake it. Francisco Cervelli and Craig Tatum will serve as the catchers with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre until he is ready to return.

Austin Romine has suffered a minor setback in his recovery from back inflammation.

Romine hasn't played in a Grapefruit League game this spring and will likely hang back at extended spring training once the rest of the Yankees head north. He'll report to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre once healthy.

Austin Romine (back) is scheduled to take dry swings Thursday.

It will be his first time doing anything hitting-related since being diagnosed with inflammation in his back in the early days of camp. The 23-year-old is about a week away from full workouts and is expected to begin the season with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Austin Romine (back) hopes to take dry swings in the cage in the next day or two.

Romine is no longer feeling anything in his back, but the Yankees want him to build up strength in order to avoid a setback. He could begin playing in games within a week if all goes well. The 23-year-old is expected to open the year with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Friday that Austin Romine (back) will not be rushed back into action.

Romine was diagnosed with inflammation in his back early in camp and the Yankees want the young backstop to build some strength before playing in a game. The 23-year-old is expected to begin the season as the primary catcher with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

An MRI on Austin Romine's back has revealed inflammation.

"He’ll be down a little bit, but he’ll get back," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "We’re going to make sure it’s knocked out before we send him back out there. The one thing we don’t want to do is give him some time out, then you send him back out and he’s not completely healthy. That doesn’t make a lot of sense." Romine was slated to begin the season at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, anyway. The back ailment isn't a long-term concern.

Austin Romine is dealing with some back soreness.

Romine might be held out of workouts on Friday, but it doesn't sound like a major concern. The 23-year-old could take Francisco Cervelli's job eventually, but he's expected to open the year as the primary catcher with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
