Rays signed 1B/OF Shane Peterson to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Peterson was limited to just 15 games at Triple-A in the Brewers organization last season, but he did bat .347/.429/.694 with three homers. Slated to turn 29 in February, Peterson will compete for a bench job.

Brewers sent OF/1B Shane Peterson outright to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

The 27-year-old was designated for assignment by the Brewers last week to open up a 40-man roster spot for outfielder Rymer Liriano. Peterson passed through waivers unclaimed and will get an invitation to major league camp for returning to the Brewers organization. He hit .259/.324/.353 with two home runs and 16 RBI in 93 games last summer for Milwaukee.

Brewers designated OF Shane Peterson for assignment.

The move clears a spot for the newly-acquired Rymer Liriano on the 40-man roster. Peterson, who turns 28 in February, batted .259/.324/.353 with two homers and 16 RBI over 93 games with the Brewers last season while playing all three outfield spots. He could draw interest on waivers as a possible bench player.

Shane Robinson went 1-for-3 with an RBI double on Sunday, plating the Brewers lone run as they dropped their season finale to the Cubs.

His run-scoring double off Dan Haren plated Jean Segura, pulling the Brewers to within 3-1. That would be the extent of the scoring in the ballgame however. Peterson did a respectable job in a reserve role for the Brewers, slashing .259/.324/.353 with a pair of homers and 16 RBI in 226 plate appearances.

Shane Peterson (knee) served as a defensive sub in the Brewers' win over the Reds on Sunday.

Peterson entered the game in left field after Khris Davis pinch-hit for starting pitcher Ariel Pena in the bottom of the fifth inning. Peterson suffered a bruised right knee Saturday in a collision with teammate Elian Herrera, but it clearly wasn't too serious.

Shane Peterson left Saturday's game with a bruised right knee after colliding with teammate Elian Herrera in left field.

Peterson entered the game in place of Khris Davis, who rolled his ankle running the bases in the seventh inning. Herrera left the field on a stretcher while Peterson was able to walk off on his own power. Peterson's knee appeared to collide with Herrera's right leg. Jason Rogers replaced Peterson in left field.

Shane Peterson went 3-for-4 in Friday's loss to the Cardinals.

Peterson's three hits represented half of the Brewer total. Over 112 at-bats, he's slashing .321/.387/.411 with no homers and eight RBI. The average is almost certainly an aberration, but owners in deep NL-only formats who are desperate for hits might at least consider giving him a look.

Shane Peterson went 3-for-3 with a triple Wednesday against the Royals.

Peterson had been 6-for-30 since his callup on June 3. He's getting playing time in left field with Khris Davis out, but he still has minimal value in NL-only leagues.

Brewers recalled 1B/OF Shane Peterson from Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Peterson has hit .320/.387/.523 with seven homers and 27 RBI at hitter-friendly Colorado Springs this season. He'll give the club some outfield depth with Khris Davis (knee) out.

Brewers optioned OF/1B Shane Peterson to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Peterson posted an impressive .308/.381/.460 batting line in 137 games last season for the A's Triple-A affiliate. The former second-round pick of the Cardinals is pretty well buried on the Brewers' depth chart, but he could get a look at some point if there are few injuries on the major league roster.

Brewers claimed OF/1B Shane Peterson off waivers from the Cubs.

Peterson has been the proverbial hot potato over the last two weeks, as he's bounced from the Athletics to the Cubs and now to the Brewers. He's a second-round pick who has flashed a decent bat in the minors, hitting .308/.381/.460 in Triple-A in 2014. While he doesn't have much major league experience, he's still just 26 and his bat should eventually offer him chances at the next level.

Cubs claimed OF/1B Shane Peterson off waivers from the Athletics.

Peterson had been designated for assignment last week. The former second-round pick has limited experience in the majors but batted .308/.381/.460 this past season at Triple-A. He could be an option for the Cubs' bench.

Athletics designated 1B Shane Peterson for assignment.

Peterson was acquired from the Cardinals in 2009 as part of the Matt Holliday trade but only logged eight plate appearances for the A's. The 26-year-old did post a decent .308/.381/.460 batting line this past season at Triple-A, so he could draw interest on waivers.

Athletics optioned INF Shane Peterson to Triple-A Sacramento; reassignned LHP Andrew Werner, RHPs Jose Flores and Jeremy McBryde and C Bruce Maxwell to minor league camp.

No real surprises among the bunch here, as is typical with early spring roster cut-downs. The 26-year-old Peterson had a solid year at Triple-A Sacramento in 2013, slashing .251/.358/.387 with 12 homers, 79 RBI and 17 stolen bases. His versatility could lead to him getting a chance with the A's at some point during the 2014 season.
