Kirk Nieuwenhuis swatted a go-ahead two-run homer in a 5-3 win over the Nationals on Friday.

Keon Broxton tied things up with his first MLB homer in the fifth before Nieuwenhuis took Max Scherzer deep in the sixth to put the Brewers in front. It was a bit of a flashback for the Nationals, as he hit a crushing go-ahead homer against them last September while with the Mets. Nieuwenhuis struck out in his other three at-bats on Friday, which has been the norm for him this year. The 28-year-old has provided some patience and speed, but he's hitting just .224 through 64 games.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer Thursday against the Cubs.

It was odd then and it looks especially bad now that Craig Counsell opened the season with Ramon Flores in center field and Nieuwenhuis glued to the bench. Since getting a chance to establish himself, Nieuwenhuis has hit .278 with an .850 OPS in 79 at-bats. He's not really that good, but he was the Brewers' best option in center field all along.
May 19 - 5:00 PM

Kirk Nieuwenhuis filled up the stat sheet in Saturday's extra-innings loss to the Padres, finishing 3-for-7 with two doubles, three RBI, a stolen base and a run scored.

Nieuwenhuis had a two-run double in the first inning and added an RBI double in the seventh as well. The runs batted in were his first since May 1, as was his steal, the third of the year for Nieuwenhuis. The outfielder is hitting a healthy .288/.397/.439 in a part-time role.
May 15 - 12:23 AM

Kirk Nieuwenhuis delivered a go-ahead two-run double in a 5-4 win over the Cubs on Friday.

The double was the exclamation point on a five-run rally. Nieuwenhuis also walked and stole a base in the game. The 28-year-old came into camp with a good shot at winning the Brewers’ starting center field job, but Keon Broxton appears to be ahead of him on the depth chart. Nieuwenhuis is batting .250 (10-for-40) with a homer, two doubles, and a triple this spring. He has struck out 18 times.
Mar 25 - 7:10 PM

Kirk Niewenhuis slugged a two-run homer Sunday in the Brewers' 5-4 Cactus League win over the Indians.

It was a two-run shot off Josh Tomlin in the top of the first inning. Niewenhuis is trying to win the Brewers' starting center field job, or at least a share of it. Keon Broxton seems to be the favorite for now.
Mar 13 - 6:58 PM

Kirk Nieuwenhuis, who is trying to win the center field job with the Brewers, went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts Thursday against the Cubs.

Milwaukee's center field job is wide open this spring, with Keon Broxton, Rymer Liriano, and non-roster invitee Alex Presley among the other names in the mix. It’s worth noting that both Nieuwenhuis and Liriano are out of options.
Mar 3 - 6:06 PM

Brewers claimed OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis off waivers from the Mets.

Nieuwenhuis became expendable after the Mets agreed to a one-year deal with Alejandro De Aza. He has landed in a good situation with the Brewers, where he could compete for the starting center field job in the spring. The 28-year-old batted .208/.282/.406 with four homers in 117 plate appearances with the Mets this past season.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis will be on the Mets' NLDS roster against the Dodgers.

With Juan Uribe (chest) unavailable, Nieuwenhuis will serve as a left-handed bat off the bench. The 28-year-old batted .208/.282/.406 with four homers in 117 plate appearances with the Mets this season.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a strikeout in Thursday afternoon's loss to the Phillies.

Nieuwenhuis was the only Met with any real kind of offensive success in Thursday's loss, as the rest of the team combined for just three singles. These kinds of games with multiple extra-base hits are not the norm for the 28-year-old outfielder. Over 103 at-bats, he's hitting a paltry .214/.289/.417 with four homers and 14 RBI.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis blasted a go-ahead solo home run, the deciding blow in Tuesday's comeback win against the Nationals.

Nieuwenhuis pinch-hit for the pitcher and swatted a Jonathan Papelbon pitch over the fence in right-center, breaking a 7-7 tie. The Mets had been down 7-1 after the sixth inning. Nieuwenhuis was activated from the disabled list at the beginning of the month and was appearing in only his third game since. He has four homers on the year with 14 RBI and a .217/.286/.434 batting line.

Mets activated OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis from the 15-day disabled list.

Nieuwenhuis was placed on the disabled list about a month ago with a pinched nerve in his back, but he's healthy now and will serve as an extra outfielder the rest of the way. The 28-year-old has batted .203/.276/.392 with three homers and 12 RBI over 87 plate appearances with the Mets this season.

Mets placed OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis on the 15-day disabled list due to a pinched nerve in his back.

In a corresponding move, Michael Conforto has been recalled from Triple-A. In 54 games between the Mets and Angels this season, Nieuwenhuis is hitting just .188/.261/.356 with three homers and 13 RBI.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis went 1-for-4 with a two-run double in Wednesday afternoon's loss to the Nationals.

Nieuwenhuis cashed in his two RBI with a double off of Nationals starter Jordan Zimmermann in the fourth inning. While he's hitting just .169/.229/.385 this season, he's had his productive moments, including a three-homer game on July 12. Despite the occasional highlight, his overall numbers are too dire to recommend for fantasy purposes.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis slugged a trio of home runs to lead the Mets past the Diamondbacks on Sunday.

Nieuwenhuis homered in each of his first three at-bats, then struck out in the seventh in an attempt for number four. The first blast was of the solo variety, the second was a two-run shot, and the third was another solo, giving him four RBI on the day. Nieuwenhuis entered play Sunday with one hit in nine plate appearances since rejoining the Mets from the Angels. The three homers are his first three of the year and he now has seven RBI in 77 plate appearances.
