Mets placed OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis on the 15-day disabled list due to a pinched nerve in his back.

In a corresponding move, Michael Conforto has been recalled from Triple-A. In 54 games between the Mets and Angels this season, Nieuwenhuis is hitting just .188/.261/.356 with three homers and 13 RBI.
Aug 2 - 4:40 PM

Kirk Nieuwenhuis went 1-for-4 with a two-run double in Wednesday afternoon's loss to the Nationals.

Nieuwenhuis cashed in his two RBI with a double off of Nationals starter Jordan Zimmermann in the fourth inning. While he's hitting just .169/.229/.385 this season, he's had his productive moments, including a three-homer game on July 12. Despite the occasional highlight, his overall numbers are too dire to recommend for fantasy purposes.
Jul 22 - 4:16 PM

Kirk Nieuwenhuis slugged a trio of home runs to lead the Mets past the Diamondbacks on Sunday.

Nieuwenhuis homered in each of his first three at-bats, then struck out in the seventh in an attempt for number four. The first blast was of the solo variety, the second was a two-run shot, and the third was another solo, giving him four RBI on the day. Nieuwenhuis entered play Sunday with one hit in nine plate appearances since rejoining the Mets from the Angels. The three homers are his first three of the year and he now has seven RBI in 77 plate appearances.
Jul 12 - 4:06 PM

Mets purchased the contract of OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Nieuwenhuis was traded by the Mets to the Angels in late May, but the Mets then claimed him off waivers in June and now he's back in the majors in July. He'll provide some outfield depth.
Jul 6 - 5:09 PM

Mets sent OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis outright to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Nieuwenhuis was claimed back off waivers from the Angels on Saturday after spending two weeks in Anaheim. The 27-year-old outfielder has a .666 career OPS in the bigs.
Jun 15 - 2:35 PM

Mets claimed OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis off waivers from the Angels.

The Angels acquired Nieuwenhuis from these same Mets for cash considerations last month after he had been designated for assignment. He'll function as outfield depth in his return to the Mets.
Jun 13 - 2:21 PM

Angels designated OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis for assignment.

Nieuwenhuis was just acquired from the Mets late last month after they had designated him for assignment. The outfielder should have a shot to clear waivers.
Jun 10 - 3:25 PM

Angels acquired OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis from the Mets in exchange for cash considerations.

Nieuwenhuis was designated for assignment last week and has now found a new home. He can back up at all three outfield spots for the Halos. The 27-year-old has fared well in the minors but sports just a .230/.302/.374 batting line over parts of four seasons in the majors.
May 27 - 1:34 PM

Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com reports that the Angels have acquired Kirk Nieuwenhuis from the Mets in a trade.

Nieuwenhuis was designated for assignment last week and New York had been working on a deal to move him elsewhere. Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times says the Mets will receive cash considerations in return. The outfielder is a career .230/.302/.374 hitter over parts of four seasons and can serve as a backup at all three outfield spots.
May 27 - 12:48 PM

Mets designated OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis for assignment.

Nieuwenhuis had just three hits over his first 38 at-bats this season, so the Mets decided to make a change. Darrell Ceciliani has been called up from Triple-A Las Vegas to serve as an extra outfielder. The 27-year-old Nieuwenhuis has had real issues making contact in the majors, so there's a chance he'll pass through waivers unclaimed.
May 19 - 2:33 PM

Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports that the Mets have designated outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis for assignment.

The Mets have yet to make an official announcement, but it's expected news. Nieuwenhuis is just 3-for-38 (.079) with 17 strikeouts over 27 games this season. The Mets are expected to call up outfielder Darrell Ceciliani from Triple-A in a corresponding roster move.
May 19 - 2:00 PM

Kirk Nieuwenhuis went 4-for-4 as the Mets defeated the Braves 8-2 on Wednesday.

Nieuwenhuis is probably going to be the Mets' fourth outfielder, and with his defense, he could be an asset in that role for a long time. It'll be interesting to see how Terry Collins divvies up playing time between he and John Mayberry Jr. when Michael Cuddyer inevitably gets hurt. If Nieuwenhuis gets the call against right-handers, he should have a little value in NL-only fantasy leagues over the course of the year.
Mar 4 - 5:12 PM

Paul Ivice of Newsday believes that Kirk Nieuwenhuis has the "inside track" at securing a bench spot on the Mets' Opening Day roster.

The 27-year-old will battle against Matt den Dekker, Eric Cambell and Cesar Puello for a pair of reserve outfielder roles. Nieuwenhuis, who is out of minor league options, has the most major league experience of the group and also has the ability to man all three outfield positions defensively.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis is expected to be discharged from a New York hospital on Tuesday.

Nieuwenhuis spent all weekend hospitalized due to an infection thought to be related to kidney stones. He told Adam Rubin of ESPN New York on Monday that he is already feeling much better. The 27-year-old outfielder batted .259/.346/.482 with three home runs and 16 RBI in 61 games this season for the Mets.
