Ryan Flaherty drove in two runs with a pinch-hit single in the ninth inning but it wasn't enough to prevent the Orioles from losing to the Giants on Saturday.
The Orioles were playing in a National League park, so Flaherty was called upon to bat for the pitcher in the ninth inning with his team trailing by six runs. He did his job, singling to left to drive in Chris Davis and Matt Wieters. Flaherty is a utility infielder and doesn't get many at-bats, largely because he doesn't deserve them. He is batting .221 with three homers and 15 RBI on the season. Aug 14 - 12:21 AM

Ryan Flaherty went 2-for-4 with a solo homer in a loss to the Blue Jays on Friday.

It was his second home run of the season. Flaherty has seen steady playing time at third base with JJ Hardy (foot) sidelined, but he hasn’t done much to take advantage of it. Even with a nice night on Friday, he’s batting just .219/.303/.314 on the year. Hardy is expected to rejoin the Orioles this weekend, so Flaherty will move back to a bench role.

Orioles recalled INF Ryan Flaherty from Triple-A Norfolk.

He'll replace the injured J.J. Hardy (foot) on the active roster. It's unclear how the Orioles intend to play it in their infield with Hardy sidelined, but Flaherty should see some starts. The 29-year-old is a .215 hitter in the majors, but he offers some pop and could be relevant in AL-only leagues if the playing time is there.
May 3 - 3:09 PM

Ryan Flaherty is expected to return to the Orioles' active roster on Tuesday.

Flaherty was just optioned to Norfolk a week ago, but the O's need him again to provide infield depth while J.J. Hardy recovers from a fracture in his foot. Paul Janish will also be worked into the mix once he returns from the Triple-A paternity leave list. Manny Machado could be the everyday guy at short.
May 2 - 3:15 PM

Orioles optioned INF Ryan Flaherty to Triple-A Norfolk.

The move clears a spot for Kevin Gausman to make his season debut Monday. The Orioles will go short-handed on their bench for the time being.
Apr 25 - 6:10 PM

Ryan Flaherty was scratched from the Orioles lineup on Sunday due to illness.

Flaherty is currently dealing with the flu. He's considered day-to-day and should return to the lineup early in the week.
Mar 27 - 5:30 PM

Ryan Flaherty went 2-for-3 with a solo homer Tuesday as the Orioles and Braves played to a 4-4 tie in 10 innings.

Flaherty has disappointed in his utility role the last two years, but his roster spot doesn't appear to be in doubt this spring. He'll likely see time in both outfield corners, along with his usual infield spots, as the Orioles try to figure out how they'll divvy up playing time early on.
Mar 1 - 4:57 PM

Orioles and INF Ryan Flaherty avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.5 million contract.

Flaherty hit only .202/.281/.356 in 2015, which is right along with his career numbers. He's versatile, however, and will serve as a utility infielder again in 2016.
Jan 15 - 1:14 PM

Ryan Flaherty provided the entirety of the Orioles' offense in Monday's loss to the Blue Jays with a three-run home run.

Flaherty put the O's up 3-1 in the second inning, driving a three-run home run to left-center off of Marco Estrada. The O's wouldn't score the rest of the evening. Flaherty finished 1-for-3 on the night. He's hitting .215/.296/.378 with nine home runs and 31 RBI near the season's conclusion.

Ryan Flaherty went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and a walk versus the Royals on Wednesday.

Flaherty should be the Orioles' primary shortstop the next week with J.J. Hardy out. It doesn't make him a great mixed-league option, but he could be a cheap DFS play from time to time.

Orioles recalled INF Ryan Flaherty from Triple-A Norfolk.

He was just sent down over the weekend, but he's back to take the roster spot of Nolan Reimold, who is going on paternity leave. Flaherty could be sent back down in a couple days.

Orioles optioned 2B Ryan Flaherty to Triple-A Norfolk.

The Orioles needed to make room for Jonathan Schoop. Flaherty could return to the roster as soon as Monday. That's when the O's are expected to place Nolan Reimold on the paternity list. Usually when someone gets sent down they have to stay in the minors for a minimum of 10 days, but that doesn't apply to players on paternity leave.

Ryan Flaherty hit a two-run triple and scored a run in Tuesday's loss to the Astros.

Flaherty's triple was part of a four-run second inning against Astros starter Collin McHugh. The triple, his second of the year, was Flaherty's only hit in three at-bats. Flaherty is hitting .276/.364/.517 in a part-time role this year.

Orioles activated INF Ryan Flaherty from the 15-day disabled list.

Flaherty is playing second base and hitting seventh for the O's Wednesday. He's battled a groin issue for over a month -- an injury that caused two DL stints -- but is convinced he's over it now.

Ryan Flaherty (groin) is expected to begin playing in rehab games with Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday or Monday.

Flaherty has been on the 15-day disabled list since May 12 because of a mild right groin strain. He should be ready to return when first eligible and will likely resume getting regular starts at second base for the Orioles, who will be without Jonathan Schoop (knee) until mid-July.
