Blue Jays optioned C Josh Thole to Triple-A Buffalo.
It means that Henry Blanco has won the backup job to J.P. Arencibia. The expectation was that Thole would serve as R.A. Dickey’s personal catcher, but the Blue Jays will instead look to stash him in the minors. He batted just .156/.229/.281 in 35 plate appearances this spring. Mar 24 - 11:13 PM

Josh Thole went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts against the Astros on Sunday and is hitting .115 this spring.

Thole has to be very frustrated with his situation after going from starting catcher in New York to likely Triple-A backstop with the Blue Jays. He's 3-for-26 with one RBI in 15 games.

Blue Jays GM Alex Anthpoulos said he expects Josh Thole to begin the 2013 season at Triple-A Buffalo.

The Jays signed Henry Blanco to a one-year deal last week, and Anthpoulos confirmed that the backup job will be his to lose going into spring training. Thole batted just .234/.294/.290 with one home run and 21 RBI in 104 games with the Mets this past season. He can continue to be ignored outside of deeper AL-only leagues.

Blue Jays avoided arbitration with C Josh Thole by agreeing to a two-year, $2.5 million contract.

The deal also includes a $1.75 million club option for a third year. The owner of a career .261/.331/.333 batting line, Thole will back up J.P. Arencibia in 2013.

Blue Jays acquired C Josh Thole from the Mets in the seven-player R.A. Dickey trade.

Thole batted just .234/.294/.290 with one home run and 21 RBI in 104 games this summer for the Mets. The 26-year-old should hit a little better at Toronto's Rogers Centre but is doubtful to ever boast serious fantasy value.

Josh Thole went 1-for-2, producing one of only six Mets hits as they were shutout by the Reds on Tuesday.

Thole is hitting a paltry .262 with just one homer and 18 RBI on the season. With Tuesday's acquisition of Kelly Shoppach, who will draw most starts against left-handed pitching, Thole loses most of what little value he did possess in two-catcher formats.

Josh Thole is not in Wednesday's lineup against the Phillies.

He's taking a seat against the left-hander Cliff Lee. Mike Nickeas will start behind the plate and catch right-hander Chris Young.

Josh Thole went 2-for-4 in Sunday's loss to the Reds.

Both knocks were singles. Thole is now 13-for-53 (.245) since coming off the disabled list on June 1. Just one of those hits has gone for extra bases.

Mets activated C Josh Thole from the 15-day disabled list.

Thole missed two and a half weeks with a concussion, but he appears to be back to 100 percent and will retake his starting catcher duties. He was batting .284/.356/.370 with one homer before the injury.

Mets GM Sandy Alderson predicted Josh Thole (concussion) will be activated from the disabled list on Friday.

Thole caught the full Thursday at Triple-A Buffalo and went 1-for-4. Expect to see him with the Mets this weekend.

Josh Thole (concussion) is batting second and playing catcher Thursday at Triple-A Buffalo.

Thole was only able to play a couple of innings on Wednesday night due to a miscommunication between the Mets and the MLB Players' Association concerning the start date of his minor league rehab assignment. It's no big deal, and he's on track to return this weekend.

Josh Thole (concussion) was pulled from a rehab start with Triple-A Buffalo Wednesday because MLB's Players' Association didn't approve Thole's rehab assignment in time for him to play.

It's the first we've ever heard of such an incident, but ultimately it's not a big deal. He ended up entering the game in the eighth inning after receiving clearance, so the Mets should be able to stick to their plan of catching Thole Thursday and activating him Friday.

Josh Thole (concussion) is on track to return from the disabled list Friday.

Good news for the Mets. Thole will serve as the DH with Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday and catch on Thursday before being activated. The 25-year-old backstop has been sidelined since suffering a concussion on May 7.

Josh Thole (concussion) caught five innings Monday in an extended spring training game.

It was his first game action since suffering a concussion on May 7. He'll likely soon go out on a minor league rehab assignment and could rejoin the Mets this weekend if all goes well.

Josh Thole (concussion) has resumed baseball activities, including hitting, but has not gotten back behind the plate yet.

Thole landed on the 7-day disabled list earlier this month after suffering a concussion in a home plate collision with Phillies' infielder Ty Wigginton. Mets manager Terry Collins is hoping he'll be ready to catch an inning in extended spring training on Friday. We wouldn't count on his return next week.
