Blue Jays recalled C Josh Thole from Triple-A Buffalo.

The Jays will carry three catchers while Russell Martin is banged up. Thole will likely catch R.A. Dickey.
Aug 23 - 8:39 AM

Josh Thole will be recalled by the Blue Jays prior to Sunday's game against the Angels.

With Russell Martin banged up, the team will carry a third catcher for the time being, and it's likely Thole will remain with the club for the remainder of the season. He will likely see most of his action with R.A. Dickey on the hill.

Jeff Blair of Sportsnet.ca writes that the Blue Jays could call up Josh Thole this weekend.

Russell Martin is getting banged up while attempting to catch R.A. Dickey, but of course Thole has extensive experience catching the knuckleballer. Every game is critical for the Blue Jays right now, so they could bring him back for their upcoming series against the Yankees.

Blue Jays optioned C Josh Thole to Triple-A Buffalo.

The move clears the way for Dioner Navarro's return. Thole is hitting .269 (7-for-26) with two doubles and two RBI over nine games this season, mostly as a caddy for knuckleballer R.A. Dickey. He figures to be back before long.

Blue Jays recalled C Josh Thole from Triple-A Buffalo.

Thole will serve as the backup to Blue Jays catcher Russell Martin while Dioner Navarro recovers from a strained left hamstring. Thole is not fantasy relevant.
Apr 23 - 11:20 AM

Blue Jays optioned C Josh Thole to Triple-A Buffalo; re-assigned LHP Jeff Francis and INF Munenori Kawasaki to minor league camp.

That means Russell Martin will catch knuckleballer R.A. Dickey. Thole could eventually get a shot as Martin's backup if the Jays ever trade Dioner Navarro.
Mar 31 - 8:05 PM

Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said Saturday that he's leaning towards having Josh Thole as R.A. Dickey's personal catcher.

While it doesn't do anything for Thole's fantasy value, it should be a nice boost to the veteran knuckleballer who has built up a tremendous rapport with Thole over the years. Russell Martin will do the bulk of the catching for the Jays other four starters.

Blue Jays exercised C Josh Thole's $1.75 million option for 2015.

Thole's role has basically been relegated to being the personal catcher for knuckleballer R.A. Dickey, but he is still a worthwhile backup. The 28-year-old backstop hit .248/.320/.278 with seven RBI in 57 games for the Jays in 2014.

Josh Thole went 2-for-2 with a double and two walks Wednesday versus the Red Sox.

Even though Thole only gets to play while R.A. Dickey is pitching, he's managed to stay sharp enough to hit .282 in 85 at-bats this season, albeit without any power at all (three doubles, no triples and no homers). Since the beginning of June, he's started exactly one game in which he wasn't paired with Dickey, and he was removed after two at-bats in that one.

Josh Thole went 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored against the Orioles on Wednesday.

Thole had four of the Blue Jays' 15 hits on the night, singling in a run in the third inning. The catcher had just three hits in the month of September coming into the game, and he's hitting just .179/.258/.250 for the year.

Josh Thole went 1-for-3 with his first home run of the season against the Yankees on Wednesday.

Thole has been an offensive black hole this season, batting .146/.255/.232 in 82 at-bats. The home run was his first this season, giving him six RBI. The only thing that keeps him in the lineup on a semi-regular basis is his ability to catch R.A. Dickey's knuckleball.

Blue Jays recalled C Josh Thole from Triple-A Buffalo.

The Jays decided to go with Henry Blanco as their backup catcher going into the season, but now they've flip-flopped. He was hitting .322/.383/.510 with seven homers at Buffalo and should serve as R.A. Dickey's personal catcher.

Blue Jays optioned C Josh Thole to Triple-A Buffalo.

It means that Henry Blanco has won the backup job to J.P. Arencibia. The expectation was that Thole would serve as R.A. Dickey’s personal catcher, but the Blue Jays will instead look to stash him in the minors. He batted just .156/.229/.281 in 35 plate appearances this spring.
Sun, Mar 24, 2013 11:13:00 PM

Josh Thole went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts against the Astros on Sunday and is hitting .115 this spring.

Thole has to be very frustrated with his situation after going from starting catcher in New York to likely Triple-A backstop with the Blue Jays. He's 3-for-26 with one RBI in 15 games.
