Josh Thole won't be able to resume baseball activities for four months after having surgery on his left hamstring late last month.

"I had two ligaments that were separated from the bone and they just went in and reattached them," Thole said. The veteran catcher will miss the season and is considering playing winter ball to make up for lost time. He signed a minor league deal with the Diamondbacks back in January.

Josh Thole is dealing with a "significant" hamstring tear.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo expects him to miss the entire 2017 season. Thole is considering surgery and will seek a second opinion. Even if he had stayed healthy, Thole would have been a long shot to make Arizona's Opening Day roster. The Diamondbacks are already well-stocked at catcher with Chris Herrmann, Chris Iannetta and Jeff Mathis.
