Steven J. Lerud - C - Phillies

Phillies purchased the contract of C Steven Lerud from Double-A Reading.

With Brian Schneider headed to the disabled list, the 27-year-old Lerud will get his first taste of the major leagues after nine seasons in the minors. A career .221/.311/.353 hitter, he'll back-up Erik Kratz.

Steven J. Lerud - C - Phillies

Phillies signed C Steven Lerud to a minor league contract.

He also gets an invite to spring training. Lerud, 27, batted just .193/.268/.303 with five home runs, 30 RBI and a .571 OPS over 262 plate appearances this past season with Triple-A Norfolk in the Orioles' organization. He'll provide some catching depth in the minors.

Ruiz was diagnosed with a Grade 2 strain of his hamstring and is expected to miss 3-4 weeks. It's a tough blow for the Phillies, who just got Ruiz back from his suspension less than one month ago. Erik Kratz and Humberto Quintero will fill in behind the plate once again. May 21

General manager Ruben Amaro described the strain as "very mild," so, all things considered, it's pretty good news for the Phils. Amaro is hopeful that Utley will be ready when his two weeks are up, but it's possible he could be out as long as four weeks. Freddy Galvis will function as the primary second baseman while Utley is out. The team will make a corresponding move prior to Friday's game. May 23

	2	Roy Halladay D.L. Roy Halladay (shoulder) could rejoin the Phillies' rotation in late August if everything progresses on schedule. Halladay, who had surgery last week to remove a bone spur in his shoulder and repair his torn rotator cuff, reported to extended spring training Monday to begin his rehab. General manager Ruben Amaro said Doc has pretty good range of motion and is "pretty positive." Obviously late August is so far away that it's just a rough timetable, but, given Halladay's famous work ethic, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him pitching later this season. May 22

	5	John Lannan D.L. John Lannan (quad) is scheduled to face hitters next Wednesday. It will be the first time he's done so since going on the disabled list.
