With Brian Schneider headed to the disabled list, the 27-year-old Lerud will get his first taste of the major leagues after nine seasons in the minors. A career .221/.311/.353 hitter, he'll back-up Erik Kratz.

He also gets an invite to spring training. Lerud, 27, batted just .193/.268/.303 with five home runs, 30 RBI and a .571 OPS over 262 plate appearances this past season with Triple-A Norfolk in the Orioles' organization. He'll provide some catching depth in the minors.
