Eric Sogard didn't start Tuesday but was the only Brewer to reach base twice against the Cardinals.
Sogard relieved Tyler Saladino, who sprained his ankle and is headed to the disabled list. He had one of the Brew Crew's three hits on the night and also drew a walk. Sogard should see some starts at shortstop with Saladino out, although the club might bring back Orlando Arcia as their regular at the position. May 29 - 11:16 PM

Eric Sogard (neck) expects to be fine for the start of the regular season.

Sogard was scratched from Tuesday's exhibition game against the Astros due to soreness in his neck, but it was just a precautionary move. The 31-year-old projects to serve as a utility infielder for Milwaukee in 2018.

Eric Sogard was a late scratch from Tuesday's lineup against the Astros.

It was truly a last-minute change, as Sogard was in the original starting lineup, but didn't take his position in the bottom of the first inning. Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel mentions that Sogard dealt with a neck issue over the weekend, so perhaps he felt a recurrence of symptoms. The Brewers should provide an update later this afternoon.

Eric Sogard had a two-run triple in Friday’s Cactus League victory over the Cubs.

It was the difference in the ballgame. There’s a competition for second base this spring, with Sogard vying for playing time against Jonathan Villar and Hernan Perez. Sogard, 31, enjoyed his most productive season to date last year with a strong .273/.393/.378 batting line with more walks (45) than strikeouts (37) over 94 games. He wasn’t nearly as productive as the year moved along — and Neil Walker eventually took over second base — but Sogard offers strong on-base ability. Villar is the more exiting fantasy option, but he had a .293 on-base percentage last season. Meanwhile, Perez owns a .283 career on-base percentage.

Eric Sogard will make $2.4 million next season under the terms of his one-year deal, SB Nation's Chris Cotillo reports.

He can make an extra $650,000 in performance-based bonuses. This seems just right for Sogard after his nice year in 2017 and it's more than twice as much as he's ever made previously. He'll operate in an activate utility-infield role with Milwaukee in 2018.

Brewers re-signed infielder Eric Sogard to a one-year contract.

Sogard just barely passed the six-year mark for service time and thus was eligible for free agency this winter, but he's choosing not to test the waters. Terms were not disclosed, but $2 million-$3 million would make sense. After not playing in the majors in 2016, Sogard had a .273/.393/.378 line in 249 at-bats for the Brewers this year. He seems unlikely to repeat that, but since he's still strong defensively at second, he makes for a decent fallback option. The Brewers still figure to try to re-sign Neil Walker or add someone else to start at second. Jonathan Villar is also around, but he might not be for much longer.

Brewers activated INF Eric Sogard from the 10-day disabled list.

Sogard made it through a pair of rehab games with Low-A Wisconsin without any issue and will be active on Saturday. Keon Broxton was demoted to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Eric Sogard (ankle) is expected to be activated from the disabled list Friday.

Sogard played a second rehab game with Low-A Wisconsin on Thursday and as long as he recovers OK from it he will rejoin the Brewers on Friday in Philadelphia. He's been out since early July with a jammed left ankle. Jonathan Villar didn't start two of the last three games and could see his playing time cut more with Sogard back in the fold.

Eric Sogard (ankle) will be cleared to begin a rehab assignment if he gets through a workout Tuesday with no issues.

Sogard did some running Monday and will do some more Tuesday. His rehab assignment is expected to be a short one, so a return in the next week or so seems doable.

Eric Sogard (ankle) received a cortisone shot on Friday.

Sogard was eligible to come off the disabled list on Saturday but the cortisone shot will keep him out at least through the weekend. He's been nursing a strained ankle for the past week and a half.

The Brewers aren't sure whether Eric Sogard (ankle) will be ready to come off the disabled list when first eligible on Saturday.

"He's got some tests that he's going to have to pass still," manager Craig Counsell said. "So I'm not sure it'll be Saturday. He had a good week (of recovery), a good weekend in New York, and it's going in the right direction. But we want to make sure this is behind him when we activated him, and it's not something that lingers." Sogard has been excellent overall with the Brewers this season, although he was in a 4-for-24 slump before going on the DL. He and Jonathan Villar would figure to be in something of a timeshare at second base once he's activated.

Brewers placed INF Eric Sogard on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to July 5, with a left ankle strain.

Sogard has been bothered by ankle discomfort for over a week and the Brewers have decided to use the All-Star break to get him an extended period of rest. Yadiel Rivera will get the call from Triple-A Colorado Springs to provide infield depth. Sogard, batting .331/.438/.485 in 43 games this season for the Brewers, will aim to return for the opening of the second half.

Eric Sogard (ankle) could be headed to the disabled list.

Sogard is still having trouble with a sore ankle and the Brewers are considering using the upcoming All-Star break to get him an extended block of rest. He should then be ready to rock for the start of the second half. Sogard has surprised with a .331/.438/.485 batting line in 43 games this season for Milwaukee.
