Athletics transferred INF Eric Sogard from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

Sogard underwent a patellar tendon debridement procedure on his left knee in late April. He won't be eligible to come off the disabled list until late June.
May 11 - 12:56 PM

Eric Sogard underwent a patellar tendon debridement procedure on his left knee on Wednesday.

Sogard's surgery was performed by Dr. James Andrews. The intent of the procedure was to remove bone spurs in the left knee as well as shave a pointed patella tendon. There is no ligament damage in the knee, though, which should help fast-track his recovery. The San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser cited a similar surgery that Ben Zobrist underwent last April. He recovered by the end of May. Should Sogard be facing a comparable timetable -- one has not been announced yet -- he could return in late May or early June.
Apr 20 - 5:53 PM

Eric Sogard will undergo knee surgery.

There was some thought that Sogard might try the rest and rehab route. The surgery will shave down a pointed patella tendon and remove bone spurs from his left knee. He is likely to be out for two more months.
Apr 19 - 5:21 PM

Eric Sogard is likely to undergo knee surgery to shave down a pointed patella tendon and remove bone spurs in his right knee.

Sogard is expected to be sidelined for 6-8 weeks. It's a tough break for Sogard who had been on a minor league rehab assignment and close to rejoining the Athletics.
Apr 16 - 1:07 PM

Eric Sogard is scheduled to undergo an MRI due to lingering soreness in his left knee.

Sogard aggravated his knee injury during a rehab game with High-A Stockton. The A's should know more and have an update on his status after that exam.
Apr 15 - 7:55 PM

Eric Sogard (back) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Stockton on Monday.

He's expected to move the rehab assignment up to Triple-A Nashville in a couple days. Sogard should be ready for activation soon, but there may not be a spot for him on the big league roster.
Apr 10 - 2:20 PM

Eric Sogard (neck) could begin a minor league rehab assignment as soon as this weekend.

Sogard was forced to begin the season on the disabled list with a neck strain, but he has improved to the point where he could take some swings against Henderson Alvarez on Wednesday. The Athletics have options for their infield, so it will be interesting to see what happens once he's back to full health.
Apr 4 - 8:20 PM

Athletics placed 2B Eric Sogard on the 15-day disabled list with a neck injury.

A neck injury has kept him sidelined since March 27. Sogard will back up Jed Lowrie at second base when he returns, though it's unclear when that will be. He hit .250 in 32 at-bats this spring before getting hurt.
Apr 2 - 9:21 PM

Athletics manager Bob Melvin said Friday that Eric Sogard is currently battling a neck issue which could require a trip to the disabled list to start the season.

Sogard was expected to make the A's Opening Day roster in a reserve infielder role, but that is now in doubt. The club should have an update on his status and provide more clarity on the situation over the weekend.
Apr 1 - 8:57 PM

Athletics and INF Eric Sogard avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.5 million contract.

Sogard is a career .239/.295/.313 hitter and he slashed almost identically to that line in 120 games with the A's in 2015. He'll continue to serve as infield depth.

Eric Sogard went 3-for-3 with a walk before being removed for a pinch-hitter Friday against the White Sox.

Sogard has stepped up nicely with Ben Zobrist sidelined, batting .333 so far this month. There's still very little in the way of fantasy value to be had here, what with his lack of power and modest steal ability, but he's helping the A's.

Athletics and INF Eric Sogard avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.075 million contract.

It's a bit under the midpoint of figures exchanged last week. Sogard is a career .235/.296/.317 hitter but has a solid glove and should break camp as a backup infielder.

Eric Sogard requested $1.425 million and was offered $900,000 from the Athletics when arbitration figures were exchanged.

The 28-year-old is arbitration-eligible for the first time and stands to earn a nice raise over the $510,000 that he took home in 2014. He's expected to reprise his role as a utility infielder for the A's in 2015.
Fri, Jan 16, 2015 10:27:00 PM

Eric Sogard went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base Saturday against the Mariners.

Sogard has regained the playing time he lost while hitting .186/.256/.218 during the first half of the season. He's at .294/.381/.373 in 102 at-bats since the All-Star break, so he's back playing full-time against righties now.
