Eric Sogard was removed for a pinch-hitter after going 0-for-2 against the Indians on Monday.
Sogard's average is down to .227, and with just five walks, three extra-base hits and two RBI in 75 at-bats, he's not doing much to supplement it. The A's have to be weighing whether it's time to go to Jemile Weeks at second base, though Weeks is in a bit of a slump himself after a nice April in the PCL. May 6 - 10:19 PM

Eric Sogard went 3-for-3 with a triple, a double and a steal as the Athletics edged the Astros 4-3 on Tuesday.

Sogard was hitting .235 with one extra-base hit before breaking out tonight. He figures to fade into a utility role eventually, with either Jemile Weeks or Hiroyuki Nakajima getting a look as a regular. In the meantime, he should hit for a solid average and post a nice OBP, but he won't do a whole lot for fantasy leaguers.
Apr 17 - 1:23 AM

Eric Sogard will be the A's primary second baseman while Scott Sizemore nurses a left knee sprain.

Sogard had a huge spring but owns a .190/.243/.290 career batting line in 215 major league plate appearances. He's doubtful to carry value in mixed leagues.
Apr 10 - 4:57 PM

Eric Sogard and Scott Sizemore are expected to platoon at second base for the Athletics at the beginning of the season.

That means the left-handed swinging Sogard is slated to see the most playing time initially. The 26-year-old has earned the trust of the A's staff by batting .480/.536/.700 with one homer and eight doubles this spring. His appeal in fantasy leagues is pretty limited, however.

Eric Sogard (back) recently suffered a high ankle sprain while on his rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento.

Sogard hurt himself while turning a double play during batting practice. He doesn't need crutches anymore, but the injury will sideline him indefinitely. Sogard's back ailment is no longer an issue.

Eric Sogard (back) took batting practice Saturday.

Sogard, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list August 7 with a back strain, is aiming to be activated when first eligible. And he is right on track thus far.

Athletics placed INF Eric Sogard on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 7, with a back strain.

The severity of the issue isn't yet known. Sogard is batting .167 with two homers and a .480 OPS in 108 plate appearances with the A's this season. Brandon McCarthy was activated from the disabled list in a corresponding roster move and will start Friday night.

Athletics recalled INF Eric Sogard from Triple-A Sacramento.

He'll take the place of the injured Cliff Pennington (elbow) on the active roster and will make the start at shortstop Friday night. Sogard has a .185/.237/.295 batting line over 157 plate appearances in the majors and can be ignored outside of deeper AL-only fantasy leagues.

Athletics optioned INF Eric Sogard to Triple-A Sacramento.

Sogard has managed just a .145/.192/.246 batting line with the A's this season. He'll probably get another shot eventually.

Athletics recalled INF Eric Sogard from Triple-A Sacramento.

He'll replace Adam Rosales on the active roster. Sogard will look to reestablish himself in the majors as a utility infielder after being demoted last month.

Athletics optioned INF Eric Sogard to Triple-A Sacramento.

He was sent down to make room for Coco Crisp's return from the disabled list. Sogard is hitting .136 (9-for-66) in 21 games with the A's this year.

Eric Sogard went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Sunday's loss to the Mariners.

Sogard plated all three of the A's runs with his fifth-inning blast off of Blake Beavan. It was his first home run of the season. Currently platooning with Josh Donaldson at third base, a starting job is there for the taking if Sogard can hit anything like he did (.295/.380/.413) throughout his 2,356 plate appearance minor-league career.

Eric Sogard hit his third spring homer Monday, delivering a two-run shot off the Giants' Madison Bumgarner.

It gave the A's their only runs of the game. Sogard is Oakland's best choice at third base, but it looks like Josh Donaldson will get the majority of the starts for now. We don't really understand it.

Eric Sogard came off the bench to deliver a three-run double Sunday in Oakland's 10-8 win over the Royals.

Sogard has to be the favorite to start at third base for Oakland now, right? He's a better defender than Josh Donaldson and quite possibly the superior hitter, too. He's batting .370 with two homers and three doubles in 27 at-bats this spring.
Sun, Mar 11, 2012 08:24:00 PM

Eric Sogard went 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored in Friday's win over the Rockies.

All three hits were singles. In the mix to be the A's third baseman following Scott Sizemore's season-ending torn ACL, Sogard is now batting .360 through his first 25 spring at-bats. He's worth a late-round pick in AL-only leagues.
