Eric Sogard will make $2.4 million next season under the terms of his one-year deal, SBN's Chris Cotillo reports.
He can make an extra $650,000 in bonuses. This seems just right for Sogard after his nice year, and it's more than twice as much as he's ever made previously. He'll operate in an activate utility-infield role with Milwaukee in 2018. Oct 26 - 4:32 PM

Brewers re-signed infielder Eric Sogard to a one-year contract.

Sogard just barely passed the six-year mark for service time and thus was eligible for free agency this winter, but he's choosing not to test the waters. Terms were not disclosed, but $2 million-$3 million would make sense. After not playing in the majors in 2016, Sogard had a .273/.393/.378 line in 249 at-bats for the Brewers this year. He seems unlikely to repeat that, but since he's still strong defensively at second, he makes for a decent fallback option. The Brewers still figure to try to re-sign Neil Walker or add someone else to start at second. Jonathan Villar is also around, but he might not be for much longer.

Brewers activated INF Eric Sogard from the 10-day disabled list.

Sogard made it through a pair of rehab games with Low-A Wisconsin without any issue and will be active on Saturday. Keon Broxton was demoted to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Eric Sogard (ankle) is expected to be activated from the disabled list Friday.

Sogard played a second rehab game with Low-A Wisconsin on Thursday and as long as he recovers OK from it he will rejoin the Brewers on Friday in Philadelphia. He's been out since early July with a jammed left ankle. Jonathan Villar didn't start two of the last three games and could see his playing time cut more with Sogard back in the fold.
Jul 21 - 9:37 AM

Eric Sogard (ankle) will be cleared to begin a rehab assignment if he gets through a workout Tuesday with no issues.

Sogard did some running Monday and will do some more Tuesday. His rehab assignment is expected to be a short one, so a return in the next week or so seems doable.
Jul 17 - 5:52 PM

Eric Sogard (ankle) received a cortisone shot on Friday.

Sogard was eligible to come off the disabled list on Saturday but the cortisone shot will keep him out at least through the weekend. He's been nursing a strained ankle for the past week and a half.
Jul 15 - 5:17 PM

The Brewers aren't sure whether Eric Sogard (ankle) will be ready to come off the disabled list when first eligible on Saturday.

"He's got some tests that he's going to have to pass still," manager Craig Counsell said. "So I'm not sure it'll be Saturday. He had a good week (of recovery), a good weekend in New York, and it's going in the right direction. But we want to make sure this is behind him when we activated him, and it's not something that lingers." Sogard has been excellent overall with the Brewers this season, although he was in a 4-for-24 slump before going on the DL. He and Jonathan Villar would figure to be in something of a timeshare at second base once he's activated.
Jul 14 - 10:32 AM

Brewers placed INF Eric Sogard on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to July 5, with a left ankle strain.

Sogard has been bothered by ankle discomfort for over a week and the Brewers have decided to use the All-Star break to get him an extended period of rest. Yadiel Rivera will get the call from Triple-A Colorado Springs to provide infield depth. Sogard, batting .331/.438/.485 in 43 games this season for the Brewers, will aim to return for the opening of the second half.
Jul 6 - 1:36 PM

Eric Sogard (ankle) could be headed to the disabled list.

Sogard is still having trouble with a sore ankle and the Brewers are considering using the upcoming All-Star break to get him an extended block of rest. He should then be ready to rock for the start of the second half. Sogard has surprised with a .331/.438/.485 batting line in 43 games this season for Milwaukee.
Jul 6 - 12:50 PM

Eric Sogard (ankle) remains out of the Brewers' starting lineup on Wednesday.

Sogard singled as a pinch-hitter on Tuesday but limped off the field immediately afterward. He's been dealing with a sore ankle for the last week.
Jul 5 - 3:55 PM

Eric Sogard has been dealing with a sore ankle.

That provides context as to why Sogard hasn't been playing much lately. Of course, Jonathan Villar has swung the bat well since coming back from the disabled list while Sogard is hitting .130 (3-for-23) over his last seven games.
Jul 4 - 1:43 PM

Eric Sogard went 1-for-3 with a single and a walk Friday against the Marlins.

Sogard made the start at shortstop with Orlando Arcia on the bench and Jonathan Villar at second base. The 31-year-old has surprised with a .338/.449/.500 batting line through 41 games this season, but Villar’s return has complicated matters. Fantasy owners are going to have to watch the lineup card closely in the short-term, at the very least.
Jul 1 - 12:02 AM

Eric Sogard (knee) went 1-for-5 with a single in his return to action Sunday against the Braves.

Sogard was limited to pinch-hitting duties on Saturday after he was hit in the knee by a pitch during Friday's game. The 31-year-old has been an unexpected contributor this season, hitting .353/.462/.529 with three home runs and 14 RBI over 38 games.
Jun 26 - 8:42 AM

Eric Sogard (knee) is not in the Brewers' starting lineup on Saturday.

Sogard was removed from Friday's game after being hit by a pitch in his knee and apparently needs another day to rest. Keon Broxton has been elevated to the leadoff spot in the Brewers' lineup in a tasty matchup against James Shields and the White Sox.
Jun 24 - 12:46 PM

Eric Sogard went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored Thursday against the Pirates.

The two doubles give him 15 extra-base hits in 112 at-bats. Sogard, who didn't play in the majors last year, had 16 extra-base hits in 372 at-bats in 2015 and 11 in 291 at-bats in 2014. In what's been a pretty crazy year so far, Sogard's performance just might be the biggest outlier of them all.
