Phillies optioned RHP Michael Stutes to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Stutes was competing for the final spot in the Phillies' bullpen, but will be demoted in favor of Phillippe Aumont. The move comes as no surprise after Stutes posted a 7.36 ERA this spring.

Michael Stutes (shoulder) threw Tuesday with hitters in the batter's box.

Most of his teammates just stood in the batter's box, but it was the closest Stutes has come to facing live hitters since undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder last June. Assuming he continues to progress, he should be in the mix for a bullpen job this spring.

Michael Stutes said Wednesday that he's 100 percent following arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder last June.

Stutes was limited to just six appearances with the Phillies last season prior to the surgery, but he should be working with no limitations this spring. He should be in the mix for a bullpen job.

Michael Stutes (shoulder) has begun a throwing program.

Stutes hasn't pitched since undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his shoulder in June. He is expected to begin throwing off a mound in the next couple of weeks and should be ready for the start of spring training.

Phillies transferred RHP Michael Stutes (shoulder) from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

Stutes has been out since April 22, so this is just a procedural move to clear a spot on the 40-man roster. The Phillies are expected to promote Darin Ruf from Double-A Reading on Monday.

Michael Stutes will undergo arthroscopic shoulder surgery Tuesday.

Stutes, 25, has been on the disabled list since April 22 and has failed to make much progress. The surgery is expected to ''clean out fraying'' in his injured right shoulder. There is not believed to be any structural damage to his rotator cuff, but he is still at risk of missing the rest of the season.

Stutes has been sidelined since April 22 with right shoulder soreness. If he does receive clearance, he'll need a few bullpen sessions before going out on a rehab assignment.

Phillies placed RHP Michael Stutes on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 22, with right shoulder inflammation.

Stutes dealt with shoulder soreness during spring training and while he claims this isn't as severe, his 6.35 ERA over six appearances suggests it was affecting his performance. The Phils will have to hope his symptoms improve with extended rest.

Michael Stutes has been nursing more shoulder issues lately.

Stutes had shoulder problems in spring training, as well, and it's possible that they've contributed to his 6.35 in his first six outings. He said the current soreness he's dealing with isn't as bad as it was in spring training. Stutes could possibly be available to pitch Tuesday. "At the end of spring, I was like, I couldn’t throw," Stutes said. "It was sore and I couldn’t throw. Now, I go out there and do everything just like normal and I’m up for the game."

Michael Stutes (shoulder) could open the season on the disabled list.

Stutes hasn't pitched since March 27 with shoulder stiffness, but the Phillies haven't ruled him out for Opening Day. General manager Ruben Amaro said he expects Stutes to pitch in a minor league game "in the next few days."

Michael Stutes was scratched from Friday's scheduled appearance to right shoulder soreness.

Stutes originally thought it was normal spring training stiffness, but finally said something after the pain persisted. Still, he expects to pitch in a game before the Phillies leave Florida on Sunday. The 25-year-old right-hander has a 5.79 ERA and 11/2 K/BB ratio over 9 1/3 innings this spring. Assuming the soreness goes away in short order, he should have a good shot at securing a spot in the Phillies' bullpen.
