Cubs signed RHP Fernando Rodriguez to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Rodriguez compiled a 4.20 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 37/17 K/BB ratio in 40 2/3 innings with the A's in 2016 before a torn lat muscle ended his season in September. He'll have a chance to compete for a spot in the club's Opening Day bullpen.

SB Nation's Chris Cotillo reports Fernando Rodriguez is closing in on a deal with a National League team.

That's all the info we have at this point. Rodriguez posted an ugly 4.20 ERA and 37/17 K/BB ratio in 40 2/3 innings last summer for the A's before undergoing surgery in September for a torn lat muscle. He should be ready for the beginning of the 2017 season, but the 32-year-old right-hander may have to battle for a 25-man roster spot wherever he lands.

Athletics sent RHP Fernando Rodriguez outright to Triple-A Nashville.

Rodriguez, 32, posted a 4.20 ERA and 37/17 K/BB ratio over 40 2/3 innings this season. He underwent surgery in early September to repair a torn lat muscle, but he's expected to be fine for the start of 2017.

Fernando Rodriguez underwent surgery on Friday to repair a torn lat muscle.

It's a procedure similar to what Jake Peavy had done a few years back. Rodriguez is expected to be able to resume throwing in four months and should be fully healthy and ready to go for the start of 2017.

Athletics transferred LHP Fernando Rodriguez to the 60-day disabled list.

Nothing has changed in the progress of the injured left-hander, this was done merely as a procedural move to create a spot on the 40-man roster for Bruce Maxwell who joined the A's on Saturday.

Fernando Rodriguez (shoulder, lat) is expected to miss 4-6 weeks.

It turns out that Rodriguez is actually dealing with a lat tear near his right rotator cuff, so he's going to miss more time than originally expected. If all goes well, a return is possible sometime before the end of August. The 32-year-old owns a 4.20 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 37/17 K/BB ratio in 40 2/3 innings this season.

Fernando Rodriguez has been diagnosed with a right rotator cuff strain.

Rodriguez was placed on the disabled list July 4 and is looking at a pretty lengthy absence. He'll be shut down for the next couple of weeks and then reevaluated. The right-hander held a 4.20 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 37/17 K/BB ratio in 40 2/3 innings this season.

Athletics placed RHP Fernando Rodriguez on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder strain.

Rodriguez suffered the injury during an eighth-inning appearance Sunday versus the Pirates. It's not clear how long he might be out. The right-hander holds a 4.20 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 37/17 K/BB ratio in 40 2/3 innings this season out of the Oakland bullpen.

Fernando Rodriguez was forced to exit Sunday's game in the eighth inning due to a shoulder strain.

He's heading for an MRI and a trip to the disabled list is looking increasingly likely. The A's are already without Sean Doolittle in their bullpen, so they'll have to continue mixing and matching in their setup corps in front of closer Ryan Madson.

Athletics and RHP Fernando Rodriguez avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.05 million contract.

The 31-year-old hurler earns a nice raise over the $635,000 that he took home in 2015. He's coming off a season in which he compiled a 3.84 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 65/24 K/BB ratio across 58 2/3 innings.

Athletics purchased the contract of RHP Fernando Rodriguez from Triple-A Nashville.

Rodriguez had registered a 2.81 ERA, 0.875 WHIP, and 18/6 K/BB ratio in 16 innings this season at the Triple-A level. He should do well in a middle-relief role.
Thu, May 7, 2015 10:44:00 AM

Athletics reassigned RHPs Fernando Rodriguez and Kevin Whelan, LHPs Brad Mills and Ryan Verdugo, INFs Matt Olsen and Joey Wendle and C Carson Blair to minor league camp.

Rodriguez was in camp competing for a spot in the bullpen, and it really speaks to the depth of the team's depth more than anything else that he was sent out this early. He should get an opportunity with the A's at some point during the 2015 campaign.
Sun, Mar 22, 2015 07:56:00 PM

Athletics sent RHP Fernando Rodriguez outright to Triple-A.

The righty was knocked off the 40-man roster Thursday to make room for left-hander Eury de la Rosa. Rodriguez allowed just one run over nine relief innings for the A's last season. He also put up a sterling 1.97 ERA to go with 53 strikeouts in 45-plus innings at Triple-A and could be a valuable relief arm in 2015 if the A's need help.
Tue, Dec 23, 2014 03:23:00 PM

Athletics designated RHP Fernando Rodriguez for assignment.

Oakland signed Rodriguez to a one-year deal on December 2, avoiding arbitration, but it was only worth around $100,000 more than the major league minimum. He got bumped from the A's 40-man roster Thursday to clear a spot for new left-hander Eury de la Rosa.
