Carlos Corporan homered and doubled Wednesday in the Astros' 7-5 defeat of the Tigers.
The Astros got to Max Scherzer to avoid the sweep in Detroit. Corporan has three homers, all of which have come since April 29. As desperate as the Astros are for offense, they may start having Corporan and Jason Castro play together more frequently, with one serving as the DH. That makes Corporan worth using in two-catcher AL-only leagues. May 15 - 5:20 PM

Carlos Corporan went 4-for-5 with a homer and four RBI in the Astros' 9-1 rout of the Yankees on Monday.

The Yankees were coming off a four-game sweep of the Jays, while the Astros were the victims of a four-game sweep in Boston. So, of course this one was a blowout in Houston's favor. Corporan, the backup catcher to Jason Castro, entered with one RBI in seven games this season. His previous career high for RBI was three, accomplished on Sept. 10, 2011 against the Nationals.

Carlos Corporan went 3-for-4 with a pair of homers in the Astros' 7-2 win over the Tigers on Thursday.

It was no easy assignment, as Corporan took Justin Verlander and Al Alburquerque deep. He has his average up to .370 in 27 at-bats for the spring. However, the Astros' starting catcher, Jason Castro, has been even hotter, suggesting that Corporan isn't going to be earning himself any more playing time with his performance.

Astros recalled C Carlos Corporan from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Corporan spent around a month with the Astros earlier this summer, batting .275 with three homers and a .792 OPS in 51 at-bats. He'll function as a third catcher down the stretch.

Astros optioned catcher Carlos Corporan to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Corporan did a nice job filling in with Jason Castro on the shelf, posting an OPS near .800 in limited duty. The 28-year-old backstop should be back when rosters expand in September.

Carlos Corporan went 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBI, helping to lead the Astros to a 4-3 comeback victory over the Brewers on Friday.

Corporan got the Astros on the board with an RBI single in the fifth inning, then pulled them to within 3-2 with a solo shot off Francisco Rodriguez in the eighth, setting the stage for a dramatic walkoff victory. Corporan has done a tremendous job in limited at-bats, hitting .298 with three homers and nine RBI in 47 at-bats, and could be worth a look as a second catcher in deeper mixed leagues if he starts to earn more playing time.

Astros purchased the contract of C Carlos Corporan from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Corporan has batting .273/.339/.422 with five homers over 51 games for Oklahoma City this season. He's starting Sunday but will be Chris Snyder's back while Jason Castro is out.

Astros re-signed C Carlos Corporan to a minor league contract.

The deal also carries an invitation to spring training, but Corporan is a longshot to land an Opening Day roster spot. The 27-year-old hit just .188/.253/.253 with zero homers and 11 RBI in 173 plate appearances this year.

Astros sent C Carlos Corporan outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Corporan, who turns 28 in January, batted .188/.253/.253 with zero homers, 11 RBI and a 49/10 K/BB ratio over 173 plate appearances with the Astros this season. He came become a free agent.

Carlos Corporan returned to action on Wednesday, finishing 1-for-4 with a run scored.

His one hit was his first major league triple, though amazingly the 220-pound catcher smacked four three-baggers at Triple-A Reno last season. On the downside, his two-strikeout performance gives him 39 K's in 39 games versus only six walks. He has yet to go three straight games without a strikeout.

Carlos Corporan (quad) was unavailable Monday.

Corporan suffered a bruised quadriceps Sunday in a home-plate collision with Giants outfielder Nate Schierholtz. He's being called day-to-day and should be fine soon.

Carlos Corporan went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a pair of runs scored in Friday's win over the Astros.

He also drew a walk, reaching base in all four plate appearances. We figured we might as well shine the light on Corporan because he so rarely deserves it, as the big night pushed up his batting average to a woeful .198. Don't expect to see another performance-related note on him again this season.

Astros recalled C Carlos Corporan from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Corporan was batting .250/.330/.413 with three homers for Oklahoma City. The Astros evidently think he can give them more than Robinson Cancel, who was sent down. Corporan will serve as the backup to J.R. Towles.

Astros signed C Carlos Corporan to a minor league contract.

Corporan hit .290/.356/.514 with 12 homers over 286 at-bats at Triple-A Reno in the Diamondbacks organization this past season, but those numbers were aided by his hitter-friendly home ballpark. He had a career minor league batting line of .244/.297/.353 over 1,662 at-bats coming into the 2010 season and is unlikely to win a roster spot on the big league club in 2011.

Diamondbacks signed catcher Carlos Corporan to a minor league contract.

Corporan also gets an invite to spring training. It's not often you find a career 1.000 hitter as a free agent, but that's what Corporan was -- in one career at-bat, that is. The 25-year-old catcher made his major league debut with the Brewers in May with a brief two-inning appearance. He batted .213/.258/.280 with one home run and 24 RBI in 225 at-bats between Class A Brevard County and Triple-A Nashville in 2009.
