Rangers acquired C Carlos Corporan from the Astros for RHP Akeem Bostick.
Corporan will serve as the back-up to Robinson Chirinos behind the plate. The Astros had a glut of catching depth and decided to designate Corporan for assignment on Tuesday, but quickly found a taker in the Rangers. The 31-year-old won't hit much, as he has a career .226/.286/.350 triple-slash line as a switch-hitter, but his value will come in spelling Chirinos, handling the Rangers' pitching staff, and playing solid defense. Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports that the Rangers and Astros have agreed on a trade involving Carlos Corporan.

The Astros designated Corporan for assignment on Tuesday after recently avoiding arbitration with him for $975,000. The Rangers, in search of catching depth, pounced on the opportunity to add a back-up to Robinson Chirinos behind the dish. Corporan, 31, has a career .637 OPS in 659 plate appearances.

Chris Cotillo of reports that the Rangers are emerging as the "clear favorite" to acquire Carlos Corporan.

It's no surprise, as the Rangers were connected to Corporan last week. Corporan was designated for assignment by the Astros Tuesday, and they likely knew they had a deal with Texas that they expected to finalize. The 31-year-old has batted .230/.294/.368 with 13 homers over the last two seasons for Houston. He'd be used as Robinson Chirinos' backup with the Rangers.

Astros designated C Carlos Corporan for assignment.

Houston just signed Corporan to a one-year, $975,000 deal, avoiding arbitration, but he was given the boot off the 40-man roster Tuesday to clear a spot for new center fielder Colby Rasmus. Corporan hit .235/.302/.376 last season as the Astros' backup catcher. Jason Castro and Hank Conger will be the club's catchers in 2015.

Astros and C Carlos Corporan avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $975,000 contract.

Corporan, who was arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter, batted .235/.302/.376 with six home runs and 19 RBI over 55 games in a backup role last season. The Astros have a surplus behind the plate right now, so they are reportedly discussing him in a potential trade with the Rangers.

Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports that the Astros and Rangers have talked about a trade involving Carlos Corporan.

It makes sense, as the Astros have a surplus behind the plate while the Rangers are looking around for a catcher. Corporan has hit just .226 with a .286 on-base percentage in the majors, but he has some pop in his bat. Drellich writes that it would likely only take a mid-level prospect to get a deal done. Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram hears that the Rangers are also considering a reunion with Geovany Soto.

Carlos Corporan went 2-for-3 with an RBI in a loss to the Angels on Sunday.

Carlos Corporan hit a three-run home run in Tuesday's win over the Rangers.

The three-run shot off Rangers reliever Justin Germano was icing on the cake on a night the Astros dominated their division rivals. The homer was Corporan's fourth this season in 44 at-bats. Unfortunately he hasn't hit much else -- he's hitting just .159/.191/.432 on the year.

Carlos Corporan belted a solo home run in Monday's loss to the Angels.

It was one of just four hits the Astros mustered for the day and the only run they could come up with. Corporan has shown a little pop for a backup catching, as he hit seven homers in 210 plate appearances last season. Still, he doesn't play enough to have fantasy value even in the deepest of leagues.

Astros activated C Carlos Corporan from the 15-day disabled list.

Corporan had been out since August 20 due to concussion-related symptoms. With Jason Castro banged up, he should see a decent number of starts behind the dish.

Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said Carlos Corporan (concussion) could return to the field later this week.

Corporan took a foul ball of his facemask on Aug. 19 and has been sidelined since. Fellow backup catcher Max Stassi sustained his own concussion a few days later and is also the on the 7-day disabled list. "Corporan is further along than Stassi, and hopefully we'll get Corporan into game situations later this week, either it's with an affiliate or in Houston," Luhnow said. "We're feeling optimistic he'll be back in competition later this week. Stassi has one more hurdle left and until he clears that milestone we're in a holding pattern." Starter Jason Castro suffered a knee injury Monday, leaving Cody Clark and recently-acquired Matt Pagnozzi as the club's only healthy backstops.
