Rays released C Carlos Corporan.

They have no use for Corporan any longer with J.P. Arencibia now at Triple-A Durham. Corporan was hitting .200/.246/.308 at Triple-A.

Rays acquired C Carlos Corporan from the Yankees for cash considerations.

That clears the way for Austin Romine to be the Yankees' backup catcher. Corporan will serve as minor league depth behind big-leaguers Hank Conger and Curt Casali. The 32-year-old hit just .167 across 30 at-bats this spring.

Yankees signed C Carlos Corporan to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Corporan replenishes some of the catching depth the Yanks lost when they traded John Ryan Murphy. The 32-year-old hit just .178/.244/.299 over 121 plate appearances for the Rangers last season.

Carlos Corporan has elected free agency.

Corporan was outrighted off the Rangers' 40-man roster last week after batting just .178/.244/.299 in 121 plate appearances during the 2015 regular season. Veteran catchers tend to have nine lives and Corporan should be able to latch on with a new organization this winter, but it'll probably be on a non-guaranteed minor league contract.

Rangers sent C Carlos Corporan outright to Triple-A Round Rock.

Corporan can elect for free agency if he so chooses. The 31-year-old catcher was waylaid by a left thumb injury for much of the season and underwent surgery on October 16. He's eligible for arbitration in the off-season. When healthy, he hit .278/.244/.299 with three homers and 15 RBI for the Rangers over the course of 107 at-bats.

Carlos Corporan underwent surgery Friday to repair a sprained left thumb.

Corporan first injured the thumb back in mid-July but delayed the operation until after the Rangers' season was over. He'll be fine for spring training and is eligible for arbitration this winter.

Rangers activated C Carlos Corporan from the 15-day disabled list.

Carlos Corporan (thumb) will resume a rehab assignment with Double-A Frisco on Wednesday.

Corporan had to be pulled off a rehab assignment earlier this month due to soreness in his sprained left thumb. He's going to need surgery after the season but will try to gut it out down the stretch.

Carlos Corporan will need surgery over the offseason on his sprained left thumb.

Corporan is doing all baseball activities but it's unclear when he might be cleared to return. He'll try to play through the ailment down the stretch before going under the knife over the winter.

Carlos Corporan (thumb) has been pulled off his rehab assignment.

Corporan is still feeling soreness in his sprained left thumb and there's no timetable for when he'll resume the assignment. With Robinson Chirinos (shoulder) having gone on the disabled list over the weekend, that means the Rangers will be going with Chris Gimenez and Bobby Wilson at catcher for a while.

Carlos Corporan (thumb) will catch a bullpen session on Friday.

Corporan's sprained left thumb remains swollen, but the feeling is that he'll be ready to do some catching by next weekend. He should have a shot to be activated before the end of the month.

Rangers placed C Carlos Corporan on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 13, with a sprained left thumb.

It's unclear how long he's been dealing with the ailment or how long he'll be sidelined. Tomas Telis has replaced Corporan as the club's backup catcher.

Carlos Corporan finished 2-for-4 with a home run and five RBI in Tuesday's win over the White Sox.

Corporan didn't even start the game, but he entered after Robinson Chirinos left the game with a bruised hand. In Chirinos' stead, Corporan had a two-run single before blasting a three-run homer in the eighth. The homer was Corporan's second of the year to go with 10 RBI.

Carlos Corporan is starting at catcher and batting eighth in Tuesday's game versus the Athletics.

Robinson Chirinos has never been a full-time catcher before and has had dealt with concussion issues in the past, so Corporan is in line to play more than most backup catchers this season. He has a bit of pop but isn't someone fantasy owners can rely on.
