Major League Baseball suspended L.J. Hoes 50 games following a second positive drug test.

Orioles sent OF L.J. Hoes outright to Triple-A Norfolk.

Hoes was designated for assignment by the O's late last month to clear a 40-man roster spot for Efren Navarro. Hoes, 25, will likely open the 2016 season at Triple-A Norfolk. He is a .237/.289/.328 career hitter in 337 plate appearances at the major league level.

Orioles acquired OF L.J. Hoes from the Astros for cash considerations.

Hoes was designated for assignment by the Astros last week and the Orioles jumped at the opportunity at a reunion. The 25-year-old has struggled in sporadic opportunities in the majors, but he's coming off a strong season in Triple-A where he batted .295/.383/.400 over 99 games. He figures to compete for a bench job in the spring.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Orioles have acquired outfielder L.J. Hoes from the Astros.

No official announcement yet from the team. Hoes, who was originally drafted by the Orioles in 2008, appeared in eight games with the Astros this past season and batted .295/.383/.400 over 99 games at the Triple-A level.

Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports wrote that the Orioles "still have interest" in free agent OF L.J. Hoes.

Hoes elected to become a free agent in mid-October after spending the 2015 season with the Astros. He managed four hits in 15 at-bats with the big league squad. The 25-year-old outfielder was actually drafted by the Orioles in the third round of the 2008 amateur draft. For his career, he's the owner of a .237/.289/.328 batting line.

L.J. Hoes has elected free agency.

Hoes appeared in 101 games with the Astros from 2013-2014 after coming over from the Orioles in the Bud Norris deal, but he spent most of 2015 in Triple-A. He'll now test the open market for a better opportunity.

He's clearing room on the roster for the addition of Scott Kazmir. Hoes has hit .267/.313/.267 over eight games with the big club this season.

Astros recalled OF L.J. Hoes from Triple-A Fresno.

Hoes has been one of the best hitters in Triple-A, batting .327 with 47 RBI in 70 games for Fresno. This will be his second stint with Houston this year after playing two games with the Astros in late April.

Chris Cotillo of reports that the Angels are among the teams interested in L.J. Hoes.

Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reported previously that the Orioles are interested in not only Hoes but also Alex Presley. Hoes, who came up in the Baltimore organization, has spent almost all of the season at Triple-A, hitting .335/.417/.466 with three homers and 11 steals.

His stay with the Astros as a reserve outfielder turned out to be very brief. He'll continue to provide organizational depth and should be back with the big league club the next time a need arises.

And right-hander Asher Wojciechowski will be sent to Triple-A Fresno to open up a 25-man roster spot. Houston wants an extra position player for its three-game series in San Diego, a National League city. Hoes will probably be shipped back to Fresno on Thursday.

X-Rays came back negative on the hand and wrist of L.J. Hoes on Sunday.

Hoes was drilled by a pitch in Saturday's Cactus League contest, but luckily avoided and breaks in either his hand or his wrist. He should be able to return to the lineup in a couple of days once the swelling subsides.
