Chris Cotillo of MLBDailyDish.com reports that the Astros have made L.J. Hoes available as they search for bullpen help.
It's hard to imagine Hoes bringing the Astros a reliever of any substance. The 24-year-old has batted just .235/.288/.331 over parts of three big league seasons and is nothing more than an extra outfielder. Dec 9 - 8:17 PM

Astros recalled OF L.J. Hoes from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Hoes is batting just .175/.233/.292 over 52 games with the Astros this season. He'll be an extra outfield in September.
Sep 2 - 1:19 PM

Astros optioned OF L.J. Hoes to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

This is the second demotion to the minors this season for Hoes, who has batted only .175/.233/.292 for the big club. He's being replaced on the roster by reliever Kevin Chapman.
Aug 15 - 10:23 AM

L.J. Hoes hit a go-ahead home run in the top of the twelfth inning, finishing a 1-for-5 night in style.

Hoes hit the solo shot against Fernando Abad. He is slashing just .178/.235/.308 on the season, but it's always nice to see random heroics as we enter the dog days of summer.
Jul 23 - 2:59 AM

L.J. Hoes continued to struggle at the plate in Friday's loss to the White Sox, going 0-for-3 with a strikeout.

The rough night drops his season slash to a disappointing .175/.239/.278. The Astros continue to struggle to get consistent production out of their outfielders, and Hoes could soon run out of chances if he continues to flounder.
Jul 19 - 1:04 AM

Astros recalled OF L.J. Hoes from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Hoes was sent down last month after getting off to a .209/.289/.343 start at the plate. He should see some playing time in left field.
Jun 25 - 3:36 PM

Astros optioned OF L.J. Hoes to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

The 24-year-old outfielder had been struggling mightily at the plate, slashing just .209/.289/.343 with two homers, six RBI and an 18/8 K/BB ratio in 67 at-bats. He'll function as organizational depth in the minors.
May 25 - 7:04 PM

L.J. Hoes went 0-for-2 with a walk in his return to the lineup Thursday.

Hoes missed a couple games due to a stomach bug, but he'll be fine going forward. The outfielder is batting just .219/.301/.359 for the Astros this season.
May 23 - 3:51 AM

L.J. Hoes was not in Tuesday's lineup due to a stomach bug.

"We don’t know if it’s food poisoning or what it is," Astros manager Bo Porter said. Hoes should be ready to go in a day or two.
May 21 - 9:46 AM

L.J. Hoes went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Tuesday's win over the Rangers.

Hoes hit a two-run home run off Rangers starter Matt Harrison to start the scoring, and he added an eighth inning RBI single for good measure. The left fielder also scored twice in the game. It was his second home run of the season, and Hoes is batting .214 on the year.
May 13 - 11:09 PM

L.J. Hoes had a 3-for-3 day before being removed for a pinch-hitter Thursday against the Tigers.

Hoes' hits were his first since April 19. He entered the day with a .128 average, and he had made just one start this month as a result. His roster spot come into jeopardy if the Astros happen to find any outfielders they like on waivers.
May 8 - 3:56 PM

L.J. Hoes went 0-for-5 with three strikeouts in the loss to the Royals on Wednesday.

Hoes is fortunate Robbie Grossman got off to a poor start or he'd have been the one sent to the minors or at least given a reduced role to make room for George Springer. As is, he's still battling Alex Presley for starts and he's only guaranteed to be in there against lefties.
Apr 17 - 12:58 AM

L.J. Hoes went 0-for-3 as the Astros' leadoff man Sunday, dropping his average to .188.

Hoes might be the Astros' starting right fielder anyway, but he certainly isn't winning the job. He's without an extra-base hit, and he's walked just twice in 32 at-bats this spring. He'll probably be one of the AL's worst regulars for fantasy purposes until he's eventually replaced, possibly by George Springer.
Mar 23 - 4:09 PM

Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle writes that L.J. Hoes is "probably a favorite" to start in right field.

He'll have to hold off numerous competitors, including top prospect George Springer, as well as J.D. Martinez, Marc Krauss, Jesus Guzman and Adron Chambers. Krauss and Guzman are also in the mix to start at first base. Hoes hit a decent .287/.337/.371 last year in 46 games for the Astros and offers some speed, but he really shouldn't be more than a fourth outfielder over the long haul for the 'Stros.
Feb 28 - 9:25 AM

L.J. Hoes finished 2-for-4 in Friday's loss to the Mariners.

Hoes, who was acquired from the Orioles last month in the Bud Norris trade, is batting .283/.327/.387 with seven extra-base hits (one home run), five RBI, seven stolen bases and 18 runs scored through his first 113 plate appearances in the majors. Astros manager Bo Porter appears content to use the 23-year-old as his primary No. 2 hitter and right fielder, so while he doesn't offer much in the way of power, he should be a useful option in AL-only leagues the rest of the way.
