Diamondbacks optioned RHP Randall Delgado to Triple-A Reno.
Delgado was in the running for the Diamondbacks' final rotation spot, but lost out to Patrick Corbin after he posted a 7.45 ERA in six appearances (four starts) this spring. For now, he'll be sent down for more seasoning, but he should force his way back into the starting rotation at some point in 2013. Mar 31 - 5:27 PM

Randall Delgado bolstered his case for the fifth spot in Arizona's rotation on Monday by allowing two runs over five innings in a 5-3 win over the Dodgers.

Delgado kept the Dodgers off the board until a two-run single by Carl Crawford with one out in the bottom of the fifth. The young right-hander gave up six hits and a walk while notching three strikeouts. Tyler Skaggs was optioned to the minors on Monday, so the battle for the final rotation spot is down to Delgado and Patrick Corbin.

Randall Delgado was knocked around for five runs (four earned) over just one inning of work Monday against the Royals.

Delgado gave up six hits, including five singles and a double. He didn't walk any batters and failed to record a strikeout. Acquired as part of the big Justin Upton deal, Delgado will need to do better than this in order to hold off Patrick Corbin and Tyler Skaggs for the fifth spot in Arizona's rotation.

Diamondbacks acquired RHP Randall Delgado from the Braves in the seven-player Justin Upton trade.

Delgado, a 22-year-old from Panama, has posted a cool 3.95 ERA in 127 2/3 career major league innings. He's projected to eventually develop into a front-line starter, and his arsenal of pitches that sink and fade should fit well at Chase Field. He'll be in the running for the Diamondbacks' final rotation spot this spring.

Braves recalled RHP Randall Delgado from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Delgado was nearly dealt to the Cubs in July for Ryan Dempster, but that trade fell through. Now the 22-year-old will serve as bullpen depth down the stretch for Atlanta.

ESPN's Keith Law reports that Randall Delgado will indeed be sent to the Cubs in the Ryan Dempster trade.

And the Braves will get cash from Chicago to even things out. Delgado has posted an underwhelming 4.42 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in 91 2/3 major league innings this season, but he's only 22 years old and carries the ceiling of a front-end starter. It's a nice get for Cubs president Theo Epstein and general manager Jed Hoyer given that Dempster is a 35-year-old impending free agent.

Braves optioned RHP Randall Delgado to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Delgado pitched well in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader, allowing just two runs on six hits in a no-decision against the Nationals. Ben Sheets has taken his spot in the rotation, but Delgado has enough talent and has displayed enough promise to get another opportunity soon. He'll be the first option called upon when the Braves need another starter.

Randall Delgado pitched well in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader, allowing just two runs on six hits in a no-decision against the Nationals.

Delgado fanned four while walking one. He was sent down to Triple-A last weekend to make room for Ben Sheets in the Braves' rotation, and did everything in his power to earn another opportunity tonight. While he’s likely to be shipped back to the minors, he’ll be the first option when the Braves need another starter over the next few weeks.

Braves recalled RHP Randall Delgado from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Delgado is starting the second game of Saturday's doubleheader with the Nationals. He was optioned earlier this week in favor of Mike Minor, and will be sent back down after serving as the 26th man.

Braves optioned RHP Randall Delgado to Triple-A Gwinnett.

The Braves picked Mike Minor over Delgado to remain in the rotation. "It was a tough decision between him and Minor," manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "The last couple starts with Minor we felt there was some progress being made." Delgado, who holds a 4.52 ERA and 1.44 WHIP over 16 starts, will return to the Braves to pitch one of the doubleheader games against the Nationals Saturday.

The Braves plan on sending Randall Delgado to Triple-A Gwinnett to make room for Sunday starter Ben Sheets.

The decision came down to Delgado and Mike Minor, and it looks like Delgado has become the odd man out. He's just 4-9 on the season with a 4.52 ERA and 1.44 WHIP over 16 starts but is likely to be recalled for Saturday's doubleheader.

Randall Delgado was quality in Wednesday's Fourth of July loss to the Cubs, allowing three runs on seven hits in six innings of work.

Delgado struck out five and walked two in falling to 4-9. His biggest mistake came in the fourth, where he served up a solo home run to Bryan LaHair. Delgado has been fairly shaky on a start-to-start basis this season, but has been quality in three of his past six outings. He's tentatively set to face the Mets at home in his first post-ASB start.

Randall Delgado struggled again on Friday, allowing four runs (two earned) on eight hits in just four innings against the Nationals.

Delgado struck out three while not walking a batter in the game. With Jair Jurrjens pitching well and Kris Medlen waiting in the wings, Delgado needs to pitch better if he wants to keep his spot in the Braves rotation. He'll look to get back on track when he takes on the Cubs at home on Wednesday.

Randall Delgado couldn't make it through the second inning in Saturday's loss to the Red Sox.

Delgado surrendered two walks, six hits and four earned runs before being lifted with one out in the second inning. He's had a very up-and-down season thus far, and that trend seems likely to continue all summer.

Randall Delgado pitched eight innings in a loss Sunday, allowing two runs on three hits in Atlanta's 2-0 setback against the Orioles.

Delgado struck out six and walked one in the second eight-inning outing of his young career. The quality start was just his third since May 14. He'll bring a 4.12 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 60/37 K/BB ratio into his weekend matchup with the Red Sox in Boston. He'll be best left on your bench for that one.
