Diamondbacks placed RHP Randall Delgado on the 10-day disabled list with right elbow inflammation.
It's not terribly surprising that Delgado's elbow is acting up given how he's been jerked around in different roles this season. How long he'll be sidelined isn't known at this point. Jul 16 - 12:22 PM

Date:

Randall Delgado was bombed for four runs in just 2/3 of an inning and was charged with a loss to the Braves on Saturday.

He came on in relief of starter Patrick Corbin in the sixth inning. Delgado was victimized by three infield singles in the frame. A double by pinch-hitter Lane Adams cleared the bases and plated three of the runs. It was just one of those days for Delgado. He has been solid all year and will likely bounce back in his next outing. This game jolted his ERA up to 3.59 in 62 2/3 innings. He has a lovely 60/14 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Jul 15 - 11:58 PM

Randall Delgado fired off five scoreless innings while taking a no-decision in Sunday's 11-inning win over the Phillies.

Delgado scattered four hits while striking out four and walking one. He finished his afternoon having thrown 75 pitches (43 strikes). The 27-year-old right-hander has gotten the job done this season, pitching to a 3.18 ERA and 1.11 WHIP over 22 appearances (five starts).
Jun 25 - 8:05 PM

Randall Delgado gave up four runs in five innings Friday in a no-decision versus the Brewers.

Zach Davies had the same outing for Milwaukee, yet he ended up with the win, since the Brewers scored twice in the top of the sixth. Delgado pitched well in his previous three starts, but this was the best lineup he's faced to date. He's a better bet against the Phillies next time out.
Jun 10 - 2:20 AM

Randall Delgado limited the Marlins to one run over 5 1/3 innings but took the loss Saturday.

It's hard to win a game in which your own team gets no-hit by the opposing pitcher, in this case the Marlins' Edinson Volquez. Delgado yielded six hits and a walk while striking out four in the losing cause. The 27-year-old has now held the opposition to one earned run in each of his first three starts for the Diamondbacks, but he has nothing to show for it aside from a 3.24 ERA and 1.13 WHIP accrued over 18 appearances overall. He'll continue seeking that win -- his first as a starter, his second on the year -- Friday against the Brewers.
Jun 3 - 9:24 PM

Randall Delgado tossed 5 2/3 innings of one-run ball but took a no-decision in the Diamondbacks' loss to the Pirates on Monday.

Pittsburgh won the game on a walkoff homer by Andrew McCutchen in the bottom of the ninth inning. Archie Bradley served it up and took the loss. Delgado did his part, striking out eight batters and issuing zero walks while limiting the Bucs to five hits over 5 1/3 good frames. The right-hander should get another turn in the Arizona rotation, and it'll probably come over the weekend in Miami.
May 29 - 7:51 PM

Randall Delgado will make another start for the Diamondbacks on Monday against the Pirates.

The right-hander filled in against the White Sox on Wednesday, allowing just one earned run on three hits over four frames. He'll continue to occupy that spot in the rotation until Taijuan Walker is healthy enough to return.
May 26 - 7:16 PM

Randall Delgado allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits over four innings in Wednesday's win over the White Sox.

Delgado had been working solely as a reliever prior to drawing the spot start against the White Sox in place of Taijuan Walker (blister). He pitched well enough in his stead, striking out three and walking one on the afternoon. Leury Garcia cracked a solo homer off him in the second inning and one more run came in on a double play in the fourth, but Delgado otherwise kept the White Sox at bay. He finished his outing having thrown 61 pitches (36 strikes). It remains to be seen whether he will be needed for another start before Walker returns to action.
May 24 - 6:47 PM

Randall Delgado will start Wednesday versus the White Sox.

He's filling in for Taijuan Walker (blister). All 15 of Delgado's appearances this season have come out of the bullpen, but he's thrown three innings of four occasions, including in his previous outing last Friday. It's unclear whether the D'Backs will need him for more than one start.
May 22 - 7:05 PM

Randall Delgado was credited with a save after pitching three innings of one-run ball Friday against the Padres.

Delgado came into a 10-0 game in the seventh on his way to his second career save. It seems like a bit of a waste for a reliever who has been quite good of late -- he'd entered the night on a scoreless streak of 13 innings -- but someone needed to finish it up.
May 20 - 2:19 AM

Randall Delgado surrendered three runs on four hits over three innings in Sunday's loss to the Dodgers.

Delgado was forced into early action after Shelby Miller exited due to an injury following four-plus innings of work. Adrian Gonzalez notched an RBI double against the reliever in the fifth and Yasmani Grandal followed that up with a two-run home run to polish off the scoring on his line. Delgado has surrendered at least one run in five of eight appearances and holds an unsightly 8.03 ERA and 1.46 WHIP on the young season.
Apr 23 - 7:22 PM

Diamondbacks and RHP Randall Delgado avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.775 million contract.

It's his second year of arbitration eligibility. Delgado posted a 4.44 ERA over 79 relief appearances for Arizona last season.
Jan 13 - 4:53 PM

Randall Delgado pitched well in emergency relief action during Tuesday's showdown with the Phillies, allowing one run on three hits over three innings.

Zack Greinke started the game, but he was waylaid by left oblique tightness after tossing two innings. Enter Delgado, who surrendered a fifth-inning solo home run to Maikel Franco but otherwise did a nice job in holding down the fort after Greinke's unexpected absence. For the season, Delgado owns a 3.51 ERA and 37/21 K/BB ratio over 41 innings.

Diamondbacks and RHP Randall Delgado avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.275 million contract.

It's a nice raise for the right-hander in his first year of arbitration eligibility. Delgado settled nicely into a full-time relief role in 2015, posting a 3.25 ERA with 73 strikeouts over 72 innings. He'll be an integral part of the Arizona bullpen again in 2016.

Randall Delgado didn't offer the Diamondbacks much in a win over the Reds on Saturday, surrendering four runs on six hits over 2 1/3 innings.

Delgado made the start in place of the injured Jeremy Hellickson, who just hit the disabled list. The 25-year-old right-hander struck out two and walked two in the contest, with three of the four runs against him scoring in the third inning. In relief duty this season, Delgado owned a 2.70 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 48/22 K/BB ratio over 43 appearances. Those numbers are fine, but it's difficult to trust him for fantasy purposes in his new role, at least until he begins to post positive results out of the rotation. He'll try to do just that in what figures to be a tough home start versus the Cardinals next time he takes the mound.
