White Sox acquired RHP Simon Castro and LHP Pedro Hernandez from the Padres for OF Carlos Quentin.

Castro (6-5, 210), is the higher regarded prospect of the two, but posted a 5.63 ERA and 1.44 WHIP over 22 appearances between Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A Tucson. Neither player is listed among the Padres’ top 10 prospects. However, considering the White Sox's farm system is barren of talent, they should rank much higher within their organization.

Padres reassigned RHP Simon Castro to minor league camp.

He was one of 11 prospects sent out, none of whom were surprise cuts. The Padres' top pitching prospect before Casey Kelly arrived via trade, Castro gave up three runs in three innings this spring. First baseman Anthony Rizzo was also among those given the pink slip. Both players are expected to begin the season at Triple-A.

The San Diego Union-Tribune expects top prospect RHP Simon Castro to get a "long look" in spring training but to ultimately begin the season at Triple-A.

The 22-year-old posted a 3.28 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 113/42 K/BB ratio over 140 innings between Double- and Triple-A this past season (just two starts coming at Triple-A). Armed with a fastball that touches the mid-90s and a plus slider, Castro has significant upside, especially with PETCO as his home park. The Dominican native will be someone to keep an eye on this spring.
