Castro (6-5, 210), is the higher regarded prospect of the two, but posted a 5.63 ERA and 1.44 WHIP over 22 appearances between Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A Tucson. Neither player is listed among the Padres’ top 10 prospects. However, considering the White Sox's farm system is barren of talent, they should rank much higher within their organization.

He was one of 11 prospects sent out, none of whom were surprise cuts. The Padres' top pitching prospect before Casey Kelly arrived via trade, Castro gave up three runs in three innings this spring. First baseman Anthony Rizzo was also among those given the pink slip. Both players are expected to begin the season at Triple-A.
