White Sox 3B prospect Matt Davidson drilled a pair of homers Sunday in a victory for Triple-A Charlotte.
The power surge continues for Davidson. The 24-year-old now has four blasts in his last nine games. That gives him a league-high 13 round-trippers. Davidson also ranks fifth in the International League with 41 RBI. Unfortunately, he has 93 strikeouts in only 254 at-bats. It's hard to see Davidson getting promoted until he improves that part of his game. Mon, Jun 22, 2015 04:10:00 PM

White Sox third base prospect Matt Davidson extended his hitting streak to five Tuesday in a win for Triple-A Charlotte.

Davidson mashed a solo home run, his second in as many games. He also drew a bases loaded walk. The 24-year-old has driven in at least one run in each of his last four appearances. Davidson is still hitting just .237 for the year including a dismal .219 in 96 May at-bats. He played 31 games for the White Sox in 2013 but hasn't been back to the big leagues since.

White Sox prospect Matt Davidson delivered six RBI Wednesday in a win for Triple-A Charlotte.

Davidson entered the day in a 2-for-19 rut, but went 3-for-5 with two doubles and a three-run homer. The 24-year-old couldn't crack the big leagues last season, though he did play 31 games for the Diamondbacks the year before. Through 69 at-bats, he's batting .261 with four homers and 13 RBI. That doesn't scream promotion but at least Davidson is contributing something.

White Sox optioned INF Matt Davidson to Triple-A Charlotte.

Davidson had a lot of hype this time last year, but he failed to make the Opening Day roster and went on to hit just .199/.283/.362 with 20 homers in Triple-A. He'll look to rebound in his return to Triple-A this year, but the recent stress reaction in the scapula of his left shoulder might not help his chances.

White Sox third base prospect Matt Davidson is nursing a stress reaction in the scapula of his left shoulder.

Davidson has been bothered by the soreness since the club's third Cactus League game, but he swung the bat Thursday and is hoping to return to action as soon as Friday. "It's just not fun to swing with that and especially the first couple of weeks of spring," Davidson said. "It's not something where you want to start the season and have it gradually grow. We shut it down for a little bit, rehabbed it and I should be good to go."

White Sox third base prospect Matt Davidson went 2-for-5 with two doubles for Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday, raising his season line to .206/.282/.419.

Davidson has been hot as of late, batting .267/.344/.605 with five doubles and eight home runs over his last 24 games. His strikeout rate is troubling, but his power has been shining. Every month, his OPS has increased. If he keeps hitting, Davidson could see some time at the hot corner on the South Side before the end of 2014. This could be a great buy-low opportunity in deeper fantasy leagues.

White Sox third base prospect Matt Davidson went 2-for-4 with two home runs on Monday for Triple-A Charlotte.

Davidson's .201/.280/.414 season line is ugly, but he hit .239/.327/.565 with three doubles and nine home runs in June, which was punctuated by hitting .353/.476/.794 with four home runs over his last ten games. Conor Gillaspie has settled into the starting third base position, but Davidson could see time if he continues to hit.

White Sox third base prospect Matt Davidson went 2-for-4 with a home run on Monday, raising his season line to .186/.256/.372.

Davidson's season has been an unmitigated disaster, but he has hit better in June, putting up a .200/.259/.500 line with five home runs. He will need to hit at least .250 to have a chance for a promotion, and his struggles have severely dimmed the possibility that he will see time in the major leagues in 2014.

White Sox prospect 3B Matt Davidson was 1-for-3 with his third home run of the season Thursday for Triple-A Charlotte.

Acquired from the Diamondbacks during the offseason, Davidson was assigned to Charlotte after failing to make the White Sox' Opening Day roster. The 23-year-old has struggled at the plate during the first month of the season, batting .172/.250/.333 with a 41/9 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 25 games. And while all three of his home runs this year have come Davidson's last 10 games, he's also posted a .536 OPS with 16 strikeouts during that span. With Marcus Semien off to a solid start this season and now playing mostly third base after Gordon Beckham's return from the disabled list, the White Sox have no reason to rush Davidson to the major leagues.

White Sox third base prospect Matt Davidson continued his cold start in 2014 as he went 0-for-3 on Friday, his fifth consecutive game without a hit.

To say that Davidson has been cold to start the season may be an understatement, as he is hitting just .167/.244/.282, including .091/.180/.164 over his past 15 games. Davidson was the odds-on favorite to take over third base on the south side and hit .308/.341/.564 in spring training, but was sent to Triple-A to start the season. Davidson needs to get back on track soon or else may become a forgotten man.

White Sox optioned 3B Matt Davidson, OF Jordan Danks and RHP Jake Petricka to Triple-A Charlotte; reassigned RHP Dylan Axelrod to minor league camp.

When Chicago dealt Addison Reed to Arizona for Davidson, the thinking was that the third base prospect would immediately take over the hot corner job. The White Sox are instead exercising some restraint (and perhaps some service time suppression) by giving the job to Conor Gillaspie to start the season. Danks and Petricka will provide ready-made injury replacements at Charlotte. Petricka is coming off a season in which he surged all the way to the big league roster, posting a 1.81 ERA and 58/25 K/BB ratio over 54 2/3 innings between Double-A and Triple-A.

Matt Davidson went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run as the White Sox fell to the Angels 14-10 on Wednesday.

Davidson took Cory Rasmus deep in the seventh inning, helping bring the White Sox back into the ballgame. Davidson now has two homers on the spring and is hitting .286. He could make the 25-man roster as the starting third baseman, but still has some defensive concerns which could mean he starts in Triple-A.

Matt Davidson will have to show improvement to break camp with the White Sox, Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago reports.

"It certainly is possible he breaks with us Opening Day, but if that’s not the case we’ll see a lot of him this season once we feel he truly is ready," White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said on MLB Network’s ‘Clubhouse Confidential’ Tuesday. "There’s still a few areas he’s going to improve in and we need to see some refinement." We have Davidson penciled in as the White Sox' starter at third base, but Hayes said both Jeff Keppinger and Conor Gillaspie slot ahead of him on the depth chart. It's clear that Davidson offers the most upside -- both in fantasy and in reality -- of the three, but the team won't just hand him the job to start the season. It's a position battle to minor closely this spring.

White Sox general manager Rick Hahn believes Matt Davidson is still improving defensively.

Hahn acquired Davidson from the Diamondbacks for closer Addison Reed on Monday with the intention of making him Chicago's everyday third baseman. "Solid actions, strong arms, good hands," Hahn said. "The question you'll hear from time to time with scouts and has been written about publicly is about the lateral movement. We think it has improved. We think it's going to continue to improve. We see him over there for the long term once the development is finished." Davidson, the 35th overall pick in the 2009 MLB Amateur Draft, slashed .280/.350/.481 with 17 home runs, 32 doubles and 74 RBI in 115 games this past season at Triple-A Reno.

White Sox acquired 3B Matt Davidson from the Diamondbacks for RHP Addison Reed.

Davidson, the 35th overall pick in the 2009 MLB Amateur Draft, was a .280/.350/.481 hitter with 17 homers, 32 doubles and 74 RBI in 115 games this past season at Triple-A. Reed is a solid closer with a strong amount of upside, but this is a pretty good get for the rebuilding White Sox. Davidson, 22, seems likely to open the 2014 season as Chicago's starting third baseman.
