May 25 - 4:36 PM

Matt Davidson (back) is not in the starting lineup against the Orioles on Thursday.

Davidson was a late scratch yesterday because of stiffness in his back, and he's not ready to make a return on Thursday. In his place, Jose Rondon will once again be the designated hitter and will hit fifth. For the year, Davidson has an .890 OPS with 11 homers and 29 RBI over 42 games.
May 24 - 12:12 PM

Matt Davidson was scratched from Wednesday's game against the Orioles with back stiffness.

Davidson was originally in the starting lineup, but was pulled before the game in favor of Jose Rondon, who is in the lineup as the designated hitter and hitting seventh against Baltimore. For now, Davidson should be considered day-to-day, but he'll likely undergo further testing in the coming days.

Matt Davidson has been scratched from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles.

The reasons for the scratch are not yet known. Jose Rondon takes Davidson's place and will DH and hit seventh against Baltimore. We'll update you when we find out the reason for Davidson's absence from the lineup.
May 23 - 7:07 PM

Matt Davidson went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI to help the White Sox best the Cubs 5-3 on Sunday.

Davidson attacked a Kyle Hendricks offering in the second inning, sending it deep to left for his 11th dinger of the year. He also plated the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning. He's cooled considerably after a hot start, but the third baseman is still hitting .261/.383/.591 with those 11 homers, 24 RBI and 18 runs scored.
May 13 - 6:58 PM

Matt Davidson crushed his 10th home run of the season as the White Sox fell to the Cubs on Saturday afternoon at Wrigley.

Davidson launched a three-run homer off of Carl Edwards Jr. in the eighth inning that pulled the White Sox to within four runs at 8-4, but that would be as close as they would get. He finished the day 1-for-3 plus a walk and is now hitting .250/.380/.563 with 10 homers and 22 RBI.
May 12 - 8:01 PM

Matt Davidson delivered his second straight two-homer game Friday as the White Sox beat the Royals 7-4 in 11 innings.

Davidson broke the tie with a two-run homer off Tim Hill in the 11th. Davidson has nine homers this year. Seven of them have come in three games against Kansas City; he had three on Opening Day and now four the last two days. In between Opening Day and yesterday, he hit .172 with two homers, 30 strikeouts and five GIDPs in 18 games. So, he's still an all-or-nothing guy. He'll hit more homers, but it's hard to imagine him keeping his OBP up.
Apr 28 - 12:12 AM

Matt Davidson clubbed a pair of home runs on Thursday as the White Sox dispatched of the Royals 6-3.

Davidson accounted for two of his team's five total home runs off of Jake Junis in the ballgame. His solo shot in the fourth inning increased their early lead to 3-0, then he added on a two-run blast in the sixth to cap off the White Sox' scoring. While he has shown impressive power with seven homers and 15 RBI on the season, Davidson is still hitting just .225.
Apr 26 - 11:27 PM

Matt Davidson wore the Golden Sombrero in Tuesday's loss to the Mariners.

He wasn't the only one that didn't get anything done, as the White Sox were shut out on just five hits. Davidson has really struggled since his hot start, though, as his average is now below the Mendoza line at .197. He has power but simply isn't a good enough hitter to be of real use in mixed leagues.
Apr 24 - 8:13 PM

Matt Davidson delivered his fifth home run of the year Wednesday in the White Sox’s win over the Rays.

Davidson had been 0-for-3 with two strikeouts before he uncorked a 419-foot missile to deep center off Austin Pruitt. The two-run blast gave Chicago a 2-1 lead in the eighth inning. The 27-year-old leads the Pale Hose with five long balls this year, three of which came in an Opening Day victory over Kansas City. Davidson’s power is obviously a huge selling point, though his upside is limited by a dismal contact rate (.235 average, 14 strikeouts in 34 at-bats).
Apr 11 - 7:13 PM

Matt Davidson went 0-for-3 with a walk and a pair of strikeouts in Saturday's loss to the Tigers.

Davidson has bopped four home runs in the early going this season, but he was unable to show off his long-ball prowess in Saturday's defeat. While there's all sorts of power in his bat, the slugger hit just .220 in 118 games last season. He's at least working on a mostly positive track to start the current campaign, though, having picked up seven hits through his first 25 at-bats, which works out to a .280 average.
Apr 7 - 6:22 PM

Matt Davidson blasted his fourth home run of the season as the White Sox topped the Blue Jays on Wednesday night in Toronto.

Davidson's bat had gone quiet after launching three home runs on Opening Day, until he cranked a solo homer off of Aaron Sanchez in the second inning. He finished the night 1-for-3 and was also hit by a pitch. Davidson is now hitting .263/.364/.895 with four homers and seven RBI.
Apr 4 - 10:07 PM

Matt Davidson had a monster Opening Day, going 3-for-4 with three homers, five RBI and four runs scored as the White Sox doubled up the Royals 14-7 on Thursday.

Davidson had a great spring but there was skepticism about his ability to keep it going when the lights turned on. So much for that. The 27-year-old has always had prodigious power, but with it comes contact issues. If he can get those figured out, he'll be a star; there's good reason to bet against that, though. After Thursday, though, he's a player to keep an eye on in the coming weeks to see if he's made any real, sustainable changes.
