Manny Pina (thumb) played catch before the game on Wednesday against the Reds.
Pina hasn't played since spraining his thumb on a tag last Thursday. This comes after reports on Tuesday that he was still in "significant pain." It's possible that he's made progress, and it's possible that this was just a test to see how far behind he is. It'd be a surprise at this point if Pina played another regular season game in 2017. Pina sprained his left thumb on a tag play last Thursday and is still experiencing significant pain. Stephen Vogt will handle the catching duties for the Brewers down the stretch.
Sep 24 - 12:28 PM

Manny Pina is considered day-to-day with his left thumb sprain.

He sustained the injury during a tag play at the plate on Thursday. He should rejoin the lineup at some point next week.
Sep 23 - 12:23 PM

Manny Pina sprained his left thumb on a tag play Thursday.

Pina didn't take batting practice Friday as a result. He likely wasn't going to be in the lineup, anyway, but it's possible it could affect his status in the coming days. Stephen Vogt is catching Friday.
Sep 22 - 5:57 PM

Manny Pina (hip) is back in the Brewers' lineup Sunday.

Pina hasn't played since Tuesday because of a right hip flexor strain, but he got through a workout Saturday with no issues. He's catching and batting seventh against Edwin Jackson and the Nationals.
Sep 3 - 11:48 AM

Manny Pina came out of Saturday's workout good and could return to Milwaukee's lineup on Sunday.

Pina hasn't played since Tuesday because of a right hip flexor strain.
Sep 2 - 4:49 PM

Manny Pina is out of the lineup again Thursday and will have tests on his hip on Friday.

RotoGrinders.com Daily Slant: Pina's absence is good news for Gio Gonzalez, who will have one fewer right-handed bat in the lineup to deal with. Gio is one of the few viable upside targets at pitcher on the main slate, as he still carries a very solid 22.2% K-rate against right-handed bats, a fairly high rate for a left-handed starter. He's also done a fantastic job at limiting hard contact, as he carries a -0.6 Hd-Sft% in the second half into tonight's game.

The Brewers will bring back Andrew Susac on Friday to play behind Stephen Vogt for however long that Pina is out.
Aug 31 - 5:47 PM

Manny Pina (hip) is out of the Brewers' starting lineup on Wednesday against the Cardinals.

Pina was lifted from Tuesday's game after feeling a pinch in his right hip flexor, though he was probably going to sit on Wednesday anyway with the Cardinals throwing right-hander Carlos Martinez. The left-handed-hitting Stephen Vogt will start at catcher and bat sixth for Milwaukee.
Aug 30 - 11:43 AM

Manny Pina said he felt a pinch in his right hip flexor on Tuesday night against the Cardinals.

That explains why he left the game in the bottom of the fourth inning, with Stephen Vogt taking over at catcher for Milwaukee. Pina is considered day-to-day.
Aug 30 - 12:15 AM

Manny Pina was pulled from Tuesday's game against the Cardinals with an apparent injury.

Pina may have injured himself behind the plate in the Cardinals' four-run top of the fourth inning. Stephen Vogt hit for him in the bottom of the fourth. Look for an update soon from Milwaukee's Miller Park.
Aug 29 - 9:28 PM

Manny Pina slugged a go-ahead homer in the bottom of the eighth inning Wednesday as the Brewers topped the Pirates.

It was one of five Milwaukee homers in the 7-6 afternoon victory at Miller Park. Pina finished 2-for-4 and is batting .290/.333/.457 in 82 games this season, but he will probably lose some playing time when Stephen Vogt (knee) returns this weekend.
Aug 16 - 5:34 PM

Manny Pina reached base three times and had an RBI double in Tuesday's win over the Cardinals.

Pina's RBI two-bagger capped off a three-run first inning for the Brew Crew. That's all they were able to put together on the night, but it wound up being enough. Pina is now hitting .304/.349/.465 on the season and will continue to play most days while Stephen Vogt (knee) is out.
Aug 1 - 11:18 PM

Manny Pina went 3-for-4 with a solo homer on Tuesday versus the Nationals.

Eric Thames took Edwin Jackson deep to lead off the fifth inning, and Pina followed with a longball of his own. The catcher also added a couple singles and a walk, reaching base four times on the night. Pina will continue to receive an uptick in playing time over the next few weeks while Stephen Vogt (knee) is out.
Jul 25 - 11:02 PM

Manny Pina finished 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI against the Orioles on Monday.

Pina is having to battle Stephen Vogt for playing time at the moment, but he's performing well of late, having gone 7-for-16 with two homers in his last four starts. The two will probably split starts pretty evenly as they both keep hitting.
Jul 3 - 7:41 PM

Manny Pina went 2-for-4 with a go-ahead solo home run in Sunday's win over the Padres.

Pina snapped a 1-1 tie with his solo dinger off Luis Perdomo in the sixth inning. He picked up four hits in eight at-bats during the weekend series, including a homer on Friday in addition to his Sunday dinger. For the season as a whole, the 30-year-old backstop is hitting .312/.351/.493 with four homers and 20 RBI in 138 at-bats.
