Manny Pina slugged a go-ahead homer in the bottom of the eighth inning Wednesday as the Brewers topped the Pirates.
It was one of five Milwaukee homers in the 7-6 afternoon victory at Miller Park. Pina finished 2-for-4 and is batting .290/.333/.457 in 82 games this season, but he will probably lose some playing time when Stephen Vogt (knee) returns this weekend. Aug 16 - 5:34 PM

Manny Pina reached base three times and had an RBI double in Tuesday's win over the Cardinals.

Pina's RBI two-bagger capped off a three-run first inning for the Brew Crew. That's all they were able to put together on the night, but it wound up being enough. Pina is now hitting .304/.349/.465 on the season and will continue to play most days while Stephen Vogt (knee) is out.
Aug 1 - 11:18 PM

Manny Pina went 3-for-4 with a solo homer on Tuesday versus the Nationals.

Eric Thames took Edwin Jackson deep to lead off the fifth inning, and Pina followed with a longball of his own. The catcher also added a couple singles and a walk, reaching base four times on the night. Pina will continue to receive an uptick in playing time over the next few weeks while Stephen Vogt (knee) is out.
Jul 25 - 11:02 PM

Manny Pina finished 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI against the Orioles on Monday.

Pina is having to battle Stephen Vogt for playing time at the moment, but he's performing well of late, having gone 7-for-16 with two homers in his last four starts. The two will probably split starts pretty evenly as they both keep hitting.
Jul 3 - 7:41 PM

Manny Pina went 2-for-4 with a go-ahead solo home run in Sunday's win over the Padres.

Pina snapped a 1-1 tie with his solo dinger off Luis Perdomo in the sixth inning. He picked up four hits in eight at-bats during the weekend series, including a homer on Friday in addition to his Sunday dinger. For the season as a whole, the 30-year-old backstop is hitting .312/.351/.493 with four homers and 20 RBI in 138 at-bats.
Jun 18 - 5:05 PM

Manny Pina went 2-for-4 with a solo homer Friday against the Padres.

Jett Bandy started out ahead of Pina this year, but Pina has overtaken him in recent weeks, starting 12 of the last 20 games. After tonight, Pina is hitting .306 with three homers and 13 doubles in 134 at-bats. He's also graded out better defensively than Bandy, so it doesn't seem likely that the roles will reverse again if Pina goes into a modest slump.
Jun 17 - 1:02 AM

Manny Pina went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI as the Brewers topped the Diamondbacks on Sunday afternoon.

Pina tacked on an RBI single in the sixth inning that ran the Brewers' advantage to 8-1. He has been swinging a hot bat this season in his limited action, slashing .315/.358/.483 with a pair of home runs and 13 RBI.
May 28 - 7:09 PM

Manny Pina (elbow) is available off the Brewers' bench Friday.

Pina exited Thursday's game against the Diamondbacks after being hit on the left elbow by a pitch, but he escaped with a bruise and is feeling much better. He'll probably get a start on Saturday.
May 26 - 5:53 PM

Manny Pina left Thursday's game against the Diamondbacks with a left elbow contusion.

He left immediately after getting drilled by a 94 mph fastball from Robbie Ray. Jett Bandy pinch-ran for Pina and is now playing behind the plate. We'll update Pina's status as soon as we know more.
May 25 - 9:00 PM

Manny Pina blasted a three-run homer in the eighth inning on Sunday, propelling the Brewers to an 11-9 victory over the Mets.

The Brewers trailed 7-1 after five innings but cranked three home runs en route to their comeback victory. Pina also doubled in the contest, finishing the afternoon 2-for-5 with a pair of runs scored. He has done a nice job in his limited action, slashing .319/.355/.500 with a pair of homers and 10 RBI.
May 14 - 6:41 PM

Manny Pina went 4-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored Friday against the Reds.

The Brewers actually trailed 3-0 early on, but Pina got the comeback rolling with a two-run double in the fourth inning. He had two doubles on the night. The 29-year-old earned a spot on the Opening Day roster with a great spring and he has faced it up by going 11-for-23 (.478) with four doubles and three RBI to begin the year. We wouldn’t get too carried away in fantasy leagues, though.
Apr 14 - 10:40 PM

Brewers manager Craig Counsell said he doesn't have a "plan" for how Manny Pina and Jett Bandy will share playing time behind the plate.

Pina and Bandy will be the Brewers' Opening Day catchers while Andrew Susac recovers from trapezius discomfort. Combined the two have logged just 298 career at-bats in the big leagues. Ultimately it should be close to a 50/50 split, though neither are recommended fantasy options.
Mar 30 - 8:16 PM

Manny Pina slugged a two-run homer and scored two runs against the Reds on Friday.

Pina was told Wednesday that he made the Opening Day roster, but the push continues. The 29-year-old has hit four homers in his last five games and leads the Brewers with 13 RBI this spring while hitting .419 (18-for-43) over 17 games. With Andrew Susac (neck, back) expected to begin the year on the disabled list, Pina and Jett Bandy will share catching duties for Milwaukee. While Pina has been a nice story this spring, we wouldn’t recommend chasing after him in fantasy leagues.
Mar 24 - 8:21 PM

Manny Pina was told Thursday that he has made the Brewers' Opening Day roster.

It'll be the first Opening Day at the MLB level for the 29-year-old catcher. Pina is putting up big numbers in the Cactus League and could get a decent share of starts behind the plate in Milwaukee, but we still can't recommend drafting him in a standard fantasy league. Jett Bandy and Andrew Susac (trapezius) are also in the mix for playing time at catcher with the Brewers.
Mar 23 - 12:38 PM

Manny Pina swatted a three-run homer Tuesday in the Brewers' 5-4 Cactus League defeat of the Dodgers.

Pina went deep off Dodgers reliever Luis Avilan as part of the Brewers' four-run fifth inning. The 29-year-old catcher is batting .405 with a 1.178 OPS in 38 plate appearances this spring, with three home runs and 11 RBI in 15 games. But we still can't recommend drafting him in a standard fantasy league.
