Jeanmar Gomez was touched up for four runs (three earned) in 4 2/3 innings Friday in a no-decision against the Astros.
Gomez gave up one run over the first four innings, but the Astros got to him for three runs in the fifth before Clint Hurdle brought the hook. All told, he allowed five hits (including a solo homer by Matt Dominguez) and two walks while striking out just one. The 25-year-old still owns a 2.78 ERA over four starts and five relief appearances this session, but his 19/14 K/BB ratio isn't nearly as impressive. It's tough to get excited about him in fantasy leagues. May 17 - 10:55 PM

Jeanmar Gomez's left calf is no longer an issue.

Gomez left his start on Sunday with tightness in the calf, but he's fine now. He's pitched well since moving into the Pirates' rotation and isn't a bad streaming option on Friday against the Astros. Gomez should remain in the rotation until Charlie Morton (elbow) returns from the DL early next month.

Jeanmar Gomez left Sunday's start against the Mets with left calf tightness.

Gomez allowed just a run on two hits and a walk over five innings, but the calf forced him from the game after 65 pitches. It's not yet clear if he'll need a DL stint.

Jeanmar Gomez will start Sunday against the Mets.

Gomez started in place of James McDonald on Tuesday night against the Mariners and tossed five shutout innings, so the Pirates will keep him in the rotation for now. He's unlikely to have much fantasy value.
May 8 - 11:00 AM

Making a spot start in place of the injured James McDonald, Jeanmar Gomez tossed five shutout innings to earn the win in Tuesday's 4-1 victory over the Mariners.

Gomez gave up just two singles, walked two and struck out five in an outing that was about all the Pirates could have hoped for. The right-hander holds a 2.38 ERA and 1.28 WHIP for the season now and has surely earned another start. It will come on Sunday against the Mets.
May 7 - 10:46 PM

Jeanmar Gomez pitched four innings and allowed three runs -- two earned -- Wednesday in his spot start against the Brewers.

He kept the Pirates in the game, which is all that they were asking him to do. Gomez figures to return to the bullpen this weekend with Francisco Liriano on the way back from the disabled list soon.
May 1 - 4:43 PM

Jeanmar Gomez will start Wednesday against the Brewers.

In turn, the Pirates have moved Jonathan Sanchez to the bullpen. Gomez owns a 5.02 ERA in the majors and will likely make just one start with Francisco Liriano (arm) nearing his return, so he isn't worth adding in fantasy leagues.
Apr 29 - 5:31 PM

Jeanmar Gomez could start Wednesday against the Brewers in place of Jonathan Sanchez.

Gomez came on in relief Friday after Sanchez was ejected before recording an out and allowed three runs over 4 1/3 innings. Sanchez is appealing the suspension, but the Pirates aren't interested in giving him the ball again. Gomez will likely just make the one start with Francisco Liriano (arm) slated to join the rotation next week.

X-rays on Jeanmar Gomez's ribs came back clean.

Gomez was hit by a line drive during Friday's game, but he managed to escape with just a bruise. He should be available out of the bullpen on Sunday.
Apr 7 - 12:03 PM

Jeanmar Gomez underwent X-rays on his rib cage after Friday's game against the Dodgers.

The severity of the injury isn't yet known. Gomez was hit by a comebacker in the eighth inning but was able to finish the game. The Pirates will use Chris Leroux in a long relief role until he's ready to return.
Apr 6 - 9:27 AM

Pirates acquired RHP Jeanmar Gomez from the Indians for OF Quincy Latimore.

Gomez was designated for assignment last week after posting a 5.96 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in 90 2/3 innings (17 starts) for the Indians this past season. He's still just 24 years old and could compete for a spot in the Pirates' rotation, but most likely he'll wind up at Triple-A.
Jan 9 - 3:11 PM

Indians designated RHP Jeanmar Gomez for assignment.

Gomez posted an ugly 5.96 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in 90 2/3 innings for the Tribe last season. He's only 24 years old, though, so he should draw some interest on waivers.
Jan 2 - 4:06 PM

Jeanmar Gomez was hammered in a no-decision against the Royals on Saturday, allowing six runs on seven hits in just three innings of work.

Gomez walked two and struck out two. All of the damage came in the third inning, highlighted by a three-run homer from Jeff Francoeur. Gomez struggled mightily in limited action this season, posting a rough 5-8 record, 5.96 ERA and 47/34 K/BB in 90 2/3 innings.

The Indians have moved Jeanmar Gomez to the bullpen.

David Huff will assume his spot in the rotation beginning Tuesday. Gomez was knocked around for five runs over four innings Wednesday against the Rangers and has a 5.61 ERA and 45/32 K/BB ratio over 86 2/3 innings this year.

Jeanmar Gomez got hit hard in Wednesday's loss to the Rangers, allowing five runs on six hits in just four innings of work.

Gomez struck out one, walked one and served up two home runs in falling to 5-8. The non-quality start was Gomez's third straight since rejoining the Indians rotation, while he's allowed two home runs in two of his past three outings. Nevertheless, he could be an acceptable AL-only league streaming option against the Twins next Tuesday.
