Jeanmar Gomez took his second blown save of the season Sunday in the Phillies' loss to the Nationals.

Philly took the lead on a solo shot by Maikel Franco in the top of the ninth inning, but Gomez wasn't able to make it stick. He gave up one-out singles to Bryce Harper and Danny Espinosa before serving up a walkoff two-run single to Jayson Werth. Gomez watched his ERA rise from 2.61 all the way to 3.13, but his job should be safe.
Jun 12 - 7:17 PM

Jeanmar Gomez notched a six-out save Tuesday, going the final two innings in a win over the Cubs.

Hector Neris was pulled in the eighth after a runner reached on an error and he allowed two singles, as Phillies manager Pete Mackanin decided to hand the ball to his closer at that point. Gomez allowed a sac fly, but he then induced a double play and pitched around a couple singles in the ninth. He's tied with Mark Melancon for the major league lead with 19 saves.
Jun 7 - 10:32 PM

Jeanmar Gomez earned his 17th save of the season in Wednesday afternoon's 8-5 defeat of the Tigers.

Gomez retired Cameron Maybin, J.D. Martinez, and Miguel Cabrera in order in the bottom of the ninth inning to preserve Philly's three-run lead. The 28-year-old right-hander has been one of the biggest surprises of the 2016 fantasy season so far, boasting a 2.45 ERA in 25 2/3 frames. He is 17-for-18 in save opportunities.
May 25 - 4:34 PM

Jeanmar Gomez nailed down his 16th save of the season Wednesday in the Phillies' 4-2 defeat of the Marlins.

Gomez retired all three batters he faced in the top of the ninth inning, striking out Giancarlo Stanton to end it. Gomez leads the major leagues in saves (by a three-save margin) and the Phillies can take over sole possession of first place in the National League East if Washington loses Wednesday night. What in the world is going on?
May 18 - 3:54 PM

Jeanmar Gomez gave up a run but hung on to collect his 15th save of the season on Tuesday against the Marlins.

Entering to protect a three-run lead, Gomez gave up two hits and walked a batter while surrendering a run, but he eventually retired the opposition. Not surprisingly, the 28-year-old journeyman has begun to show some cracks of late with a 5.40 ERA over his last seven appearances. However, he's 15-for-16 in save opportunities.
May 17 - 10:40 PM

Jeanmar Gomez pitched a scoreless ninth inning Friday against the Reds for his 14th save of the season.

Asked to hold a one-run lead, Gomez hit Joey Votto with one out, but he managed to get Brandon Phillips to hit into a double play to end the ballgame. After going undrafted in nearly all fantasy leagues, Gomez owns a 2.49 ERA over 20 appearances and leads the majors with 14 saves. Nobody else has more than 12 saves. Baseball, man.
May 13 - 10:35 PM

Jeanmar Gomez converted his league-leading 12th save Tuesday against the Braves.

It wasn't without a bit of a sweat, as Gomez yielded a solo homer to Freddie Freeman to lead off the ninth before eventually stranding the tying run at first base. The 28-year-old has been scored upon in two of his last four appearances but has managed to nail down 12 of his 13 save opportunities on the year.
May 10 - 10:00 PM

Jeanmar Gomez secured the Phillies' 4-3 win over the Marlins on Saturday, picking up his 10th save in the process.

Gomez surrendered a one-out single to J.T. Realmuto in the ninth inning, but erased that in short order by inducing a double play grounder from Miguel Rojas. The 28-year-old right-hander is 10-for-11 in save chances this season and holds a 2.55 ERA with a 13/5 K/BB ratio over 17 2/3 innings. He makes for a respectable closing option in any relatively deep mixed league, though interested parties should be aware that he is not guaranteed to hold the closer's gig all season and that either Hector Neris or Andrew Bailey could push for the ninth down the road.
May 7 - 10:58 PM

Jeanmar Gomez took his first blown save and loss after giving up two runs in the ninth Wednesday against the Cardinals.

Gomez retired just one of the six hitters he faced, with one of his two outs coming on a baserunning miscue from pinch-runner Carlos Martinez. Gomez has done excellent work as the Phillies' closer, but the team would be better off if Hector Neris or Andrew Bailey could secure the job, allowing Gomez to return to his old stomping grounds in the middle innings. It might happen before too long.
May 4 - 11:40 PM

Jeanmar Gomez pitched a scoreless ninth inning against the Cardinals to earn his ninth save Tuesday.

All saves are not created equal, and Gomez earned his Tuesday by protecting a one-run lead against the top of the Cardinals' lineup. He got Matt Carpenter to strike out swinging before pitching around a Stephen Piscotty one-out single. Gomez now owns a 1.69 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 12/3 K/BB ratio over 16 innings of work overall.
May 3 - 10:55 PM

Jeanmar Gomez worked into and out of trouble Saturday against the Indians, earning his eighth save of the season.

One-out singles by Jose Ramirez and Lonnie Chisenhall created some stress for Gomez, but he got Rajai Davis to ground out and Jason Kipnis to line out to end the game. The Phillies have been one of the biggest surprises of the season's first month and Gomez has been one of the biggest surprises on the Phils, earning eight saves with a 1.80 ERA and 1.00 WHIP after beginning the season as a middle reliever.
Apr 30 - 10:25 PM

Jeanmar Gomez tossed a scoreless ninth inning Thursday for his seventh save of the season.

Only David Robertson and Kenley Jansen have more saves than Gomez. You know, just like everyone predicted coming into the year. Gomez doesn’t fit the mold of a typical closer, but he hasn’t had any hiccups yet while posting a 1.93 ERA and 11/3 K/BB ratio over 14 innings.
Apr 28 - 9:26 PM

Jeanmar Gomez breezed through a perfect ninth inning in Wednesday's 3-0 win over the Nationals to pick up his sixth save.

Gomez had only one career save prior to 2016 and has never posted a full-season ERA under 3.00 in the big leagues; however, he's enjoyed a dream start to the season. He lowered his ERA to 2.08 on Wednesday and now has six saves, which ranks as the seventh-most in the majors. The sustainability of this performance is unclear -- given his history and the fact that he's not really doing anything different -- but he's the clear closer in Philadelphia right now and should be owned in the vast majority of fantasy leagues.
Apr 27 - 10:47 PM

Jeanmar Gomez converted his fifth save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning in Tuesday's win over the Nationals.

Gomez made Philly fans a little nervous when a two-out Anthony Rendon single brought up Bryce Harper as the go-ahead run, but he got Harper to ground out to end it. The veteran right-hander isn't a great bet to continue producing as the Phillies' closer, but he's been good so far with a 2.25 ERA and five saves in five chances.
