Pirates designated RHP Jeanmar Gomez for assignment.

The 26-year-old right-hander was arbitration eligible for the first time this winter. In 44 appearances out of the Pirates bullpen in 2014, Gomez registered a 3.19 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 38/23 K/BB mark in 62 innings.

Jeanmar Gomez fired five innings of one-run ball Wednesday in the Pirates' win over the Mariners.

Gomez did not factor into the decision but certainly deserved the victory. He gave up only three hits and two walks, and the one run that he allowed was unearned. Gomez has a 2.76 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in 49 innings this season, but he is headed back to the bullpen soon and can be ignored in most standard fantasy leagues.

Pirates activated RHP Jeanmar Gomez from the 15-day disabled list.

Gomez, out since June 2 with right forearm tightness, will return to make the start Wednesday against the Mariners. The 25-year-old has a 3.07 ERA and 23/16 K/BB ratio in 44 innings over seven starts and five relief appearances this season and isn't an option outside of NL-only formats.

Jeanmar Gomez (forearm) will be activated from the disabled list to start Wednesday against the Mariners.

Gomez threw five hitless innings at Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday and won't need another rehab appearance before being activated from the disabled list. He has a 3.07 ERA over 12 appearances (seven starts) and will replace Brandon Cumpton in the Pirates' starting rotation.

Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said Thursday that Jeanmar Gomez (forearm) might not need another rehab appearance before being activated.

Gomez struck out four over five hitless innings in a rehab start for Triple-A Indianapolis Wednesday. The Pirates could use him in their rotation, but with three off days in the next two weeks, they could choose to shuffle things around. "We'll see how he feels when we get our hands on him," Hurdle said. "He could be very well close to getting back in the mix."

Jeanmar Gomez (forearm) struck out four over five hitless innings in a rehab start for Triple-A Indianapolis Wednesday.

He walked one batter, needing just 52 pitches to cover the five frames. Gomez allowed one earned run over three frames in his first rehab start. The righty appears to be ready to be activated and seems likely to return to the Pirates' rotation given the team's injuries.

Jeanmar Gomez (forearm) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday.

He's slated to throw four innings and/or 60 pitches. Out with a right forearm strain, Gomez shouldn't need much rehab time before being activated. Despite his success in the rotation, he seems likely to go back to a long relief role.

Jeanmar Gomez (forearm) is tentatively scheduled to begin a rehab assignment next week.

Gomez will need to get through a bullpen session on Monday before the Pirates clear him to pitch in games. Assuming he avoids setbacks, he could return from the disabled list when first eligible.

Jeanmar Gomez (forearm) threw a 20-pitch bullpen session Friday.

Gomez will throw another bullpen session on Monday before being reevaluated. The Pirates have yet to indicate whether he'll need to be sent on a rehab assignment before returning from the DL.

Pirates placed RHP Jeanmar Gomez on the 15-day disabled list with right forearm tightness.

Gomez suffered the injury in Sunday's win and will be sidelined for at least the next two weeks. The decision to place him on the DL comes as no surprise, as he was expected to be replaced by Charlie Morton in the starting rotation.

Jeanmar Gomez left Sunday's start against the Reds after one inning with right forearm tightness.

Gomez looked out of sorts in the first, allowing the first six to reach base while giving up four runs on four hits and a walk. He seems likely to be headed to the disabled list and was probably going to be replaced in the rotation next weekend by Charlie Morton, anyway.

Jeanmar Gomez threw seven scoreless innings to take a no-decision in the Pirates' extra-innings win over the Tigers on Tuesday.

It wasn't as sexy as opposing pitcher Rick Porcello's line, but it was equally as effective. Gomez held the Tigers to just three hits, all singles, and a walk in his seven innings of work. The right-hander quietly has a 2.30 ERA on the season, but he can continue to be largely ignored in the majority of fantasy leagues. His next start will come Sunday against the Reds.

Jeanmar Gomez was touched up for four runs (three earned) in 4 2/3 innings Friday in a no-decision against the Astros.

Gomez gave up one run over the first four innings, but the Astros got to him for three runs in the fifth before Clint Hurdle brought the hook. All told, he allowed five hits (including a solo homer by Matt Dominguez) and two walks while striking out just one. The 25-year-old still owns a 2.78 ERA over four starts and five relief appearances this session, but his 19/14 K/BB ratio isn't nearly as impressive. It's tough to get excited about him in fantasy leagues.

Jeanmar Gomez's left calf is no longer an issue.

Gomez left his start on Sunday with tightness in the calf, but he's fine now. He's pitched well since moving into the Pirates' rotation and isn't a bad streaming option on Friday against the Astros. Gomez should remain in the rotation until Charlie Morton (elbow) returns from the DL early next month.
