White Sox signed RHP Jacob Turner to a one-year, $1.5 million contract.
Turner got non-tendered by the White Sox on Wednesday night, but the club worked quickly to get him back in the fold. The 24-year-old former top prospect was limited in 2015 by right elbow troubles, but he should carry a clean bill of health into the 2016 season. It's a nice bit of low-risk, potentially-high-reward rotation depth for Chicago. Thu, Dec 3, 2015 12:28:00 PM

White Sox non-tendered RHP Jacob Turner.

The White Sox scooped Turner off waivers from the Cubs in late October. He spent 2015 working his way back from right elbow surgery, but managed just nine rehab appearances before being shut down once more due to lingering soreness. Turner, 24, has never thrown more than 118 innings in a season.

White Sox claimed RHP Jacob Turner off waivers from the Cubs.

Turner was limited to just nine rehab innings in 2015 as he worked his way back from right elbow surgery and was shut down in June after experiencing renewed soreness in the elbow. It's unclear what his health status is now, but the White Sox are obviously willing to take a shot on the former top prospect.

Jacob Turner has been shut down due to soreness in his right elbow.

Turner was on a rehab assignment from a mild flexor strain in the elbow but a flare-up caused him to halt his progress. The Cubs have no timetable for his return to the mound and, obviously, for his eventual return to Wrigley.

Jacob Turner (elbow) allowed two runs over four innings in his first rehab start with Double-A Tennessee.

Turner struck out four and walked just one but served up a two-run homer. The right-hander is making his way back from a flexor strain and bone bruise in his elbow and figures to need most, if not all, of his 30 rehab days.

Cubs transferred RHP Jacob Turner from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Gonzalez Germen. Turner is expected to miss the first couple months of the season with a mild right flexor strain and bone bruise in his right elbow.

Cubs placed RHP Jacob Turner on the 15-day disabled list with a right elbow injury.

Turner was diagnosed on March 10 with a mild right flexor strain and bone bruise in his right elbow. He's not expected to resume throwing until mid-April or so.

Jacob Turner (elbow) will be shut down for the next month.

A second opinion has confirmed that Turner is dealing with a bone bruise and mild flexor strain in his right elbow. "It’s something that, right now, is not smart to throw through, basically," Turner said. "If I try to throw through it, it’s something that could be worse." Turner will obviously begin the season on the disabled list and will be sent out on a rehab assignment at some point before becoming an option for the Cubs.

Jacob Turner was diagnosed with a mild right flexor strain and bone bruise in his right elbow.

Turner will get a second opinion, but he appears bound to begin the season the disabled list. Travis Wood currently has the inside track for the fifth starter job.

Jacob Turner pitched two scoreless innings Thursday against the Giants.

Turner is looking to win a spot at the back of the Cubs' rotation. He did allow three base runners on a single and two walks, but was able to navigate his way out of trouble. The young right-hander had a rough go of things both before and after coming to the Cubs from the Marlins, finishing with an aggregate 6.13 ERA. Turner has struggled to miss bats in close to 300 major league innings.

Cubs exercised RHP Jacob Turner's $1 million option for 2015.

The 23-year-old hurler endured a brutal 2014 campaign split between the Marlins and the Cubs, posting a horrifying 6.13 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 71/33 K/BB ratio over 113 innings. He'll head into spring training looking to secure one of the final spots in Joe Maddon's Opening Day rotation.

Jacob Turner allowed two runs over five innings in a win over the Brewers Sunday.

Turner bounced back from a couple poor starts to earn the win in his last start of the season, giving up four hits and three walks over his five innings. It was a strange season for the 23-year-old, who started and relieved for the Marlins before being designated for assignment and joining the Cubs. He finishes 6-11 with a 6.13 ERA, but he's still got enough talent and upside to make a positive impact in the near future.

Jacob Turner allowed five runs on eight hits over five innings in a loss to the Dodgers Sunday.

Turner gave up three extra-base hits among his eight hits allowed, including Matt Kemp's two-run homer. The loss was the third straight for Turner, dropping him to 5-11 with a 6.33 ERA. Turner will have one more chance to impress the Cubs brass before the offseason, starting Saturday at the Brewers.

Jacob Turner allowed seven runs over 4 1/3 innings in Sunday's loss to the Pirates.

Turner has now been subpar in three of his four starts with the Cubs in what has been an overall forgettable year for the 23-year-old. Sunday's start was going alright until the fifth inning, when the Pirates jumped on him for six runs before he was chased. Turner gave up seven hits and walked three on the day as a whole. He's got another tough meeting next weekend against the Dodgers.

Jacob Turner gave up five runs -- four earned -- in six innings Monday in a loss to the Blue Jays.

Turned had a quality start against the Brewers last week, but he's struggled in two of his three outings since being added to the Cubs rotation. Relief work might be a better situation for him. The Cubs, though, will likely let him finish the season as a starter.
