Jacob Turner scattered five hits and allowed one run over six and a third innings on Monday.
This was Turner's second start since replacing Edwin Jackson the Cubs rotation. It went considerably better than his first (in which he allowed six runs). Turner struck out seven and walked only one over his six and a third innings of work. It was a surprisingly clean start for the former-Marlin, who came into the game with a 5.58 ERA and 1.62 WHIP over 90 innings. He'll try to repeat this labor of competency when he duels with the Blue Jays in his next start. Sep 1 - 5:16 PM

Jacob Turner lasted only 3 2/3 innings, allowing six runs (three earned), in a loss to the Reds on Wednesday.

It was Turner's first start as a Cub after replacing Edwin Jackson in the rotation. The Reds scored twice in the second inning and put up a four-spot in the fourth. Carlos Villanueva relieved Turner with two outs in the inning, but allowed all of his inherited runners to score. Turner yielded seven hits and two walks while striking out one. Turner has ugly numbers, sporting a 5.84 ERA, a 1.63 WHIP, and a 56/25 K/BB ratio. He'll try to improve in a home start against the Brewers on Monday.
Aug 27 - 10:40 PM

Jacob Turner will replace Edwin Jackson in the rotation make his first start for the Cubs on Wednesday.

Jackson's turn actually comes up Tuesday, but Travis Wood will be able to pitch on normal rest then. Turner will be facing the Giants in his first start, which would seem to be a pretty tasty matchup at the moment. Still, he's merely a borderline play in NL-only leagues. In 12 starts for the Marlins, he had a 6.03 ERA.
Aug 23 - 11:53 AM

Jacob Turner will pitch out of the Cubs' bullpen for the time being.

The Cubs will eventually give Turner a chance to start, whether it's later this season or next, but for now he'll be used in relief. The 23-year-old was acquired from the Marlins over the weekend.
Aug 11 - 6:13 PM

Cubs acquired RHP Jacob Turner from the Marlins in exchange for RHPs Tyler Bremer and Jose Arias.

ESPN's Keith Law first reported the deal, and the Cubs have now made it official. Turner was designated for assignment by the Marlins after posting a career 4.77 ERA over 264 innings, but he turned just 23 in May and is a former top prospect, making it a worthy gamble for the rebuilding Cubs.
Aug 8 - 1:39 PM

ESPN's Jim Bowden reports that the Cubs have claimed Jacob Turner off waivers from the Marlins.

The report comes after FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal said Turner had been claimed by an unnamed National League club. It's worth a shot by the Cubs, as Turner is still just 23 and is a former top prospect. The two sides will now work on a trade for the righty, which they shouldn't have problems completing.
Aug 6 - 2:57 PM

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Jacob Turner has been claimed off waivers by an unnamed National League team.

It's no surprise that he was scooped up quickly after the Marlins designated him for assignment. Turner has a career 4.77 over 264 innings, but he also turned just 23 in May and is a former top prospect. Rosenthal says that the right-hander is likely to be traded.
Aug 6 - 2:49 PM

Marlins designated RHP Jacob Turner for assignment.

Turner had a 3.74 ERA over 20 starts with the Marlins last season, but he has regressed in a big way this year by posting a 5.97 ERA in 12 starts and eight relief appearances. However, his strikeout and walk rates have improved and his velocity has been on the rise this year. Still, it's quite a fall from grace for the 23-year-old, who was once considered a top prospect during his days as a Tigers farmhand and was a key piece in the Anibal Sanchez deal. Surely someone will take a chance on him given the potential upside -- and perhaps the Marlins already have a trade in mind for him -- but his career has been a disappointment thus far.
Aug 5 - 12:41 PM

Jacob Turner allowed five runs on nine hits over four innings in Sunday's loss to the Reds.

Turner had been pretty good in his first two starts since returning to the rotation, but he didn't have much of anything going Sunday. The right-hander is now 4-7 with a 5.97 ERA on the year. He'll look for a better result Saturday when the Marlins visit the same Reds club on Saturday.
Aug 3 - 4:37 PM

Jacob Turner held the Astros to one run on six hits over 5 2/3 innings in a win Sunday.

Turner struck out four and walked two in the outing, earning his second straight win since rejoining the Marlins rotation. The win moved him to 4-6 but he still owns an unsightly 5.69 ERA and 1.57 WHIP after struggling for most of the year. His next outing will come Friday against the Reds.
Jul 27 - 5:57 PM

Jacob Turner earned his third win after limiting the Braves to two runs over five innings as the Marlins went on to a 6-5 victory on Tuesday.

Turner was making his first start since June 11. He had been working out of the bullpen, but his struggles followed him there. The Marlins hope Tuesday's start is the turning over of a new leaf, as Turner held the Braves to four hits and two walks while striking out four. He carries an ugly 6.03 ERA, 1.59 WHIP, and 48/19 K/BB ratio. Turner will take on the Astros in Houston when he takes the mound next.
Jul 22 - 10:54 PM

Jacob Turner has been moved back into the Marlins' rotation.

Turner held a 6.38 ERA in nine starts earlier this season for the Marlins and hasn't been much better in relief, putting up a 5.74 mark over eight appearances. The former top prospect is still just 23 but has been a major disappointment and can be avoided in fantasy leagues.

Jul 20 - 12:34 PM

The Marlins have moved Jacob Turner to the bullpen.

The Marlins shook up their pitching staff Monday by calling up Andrew Heaney and Anthony DeSclafani and designating both Kevin Slowey and Randy Wolf for assignment. Heaney and DeSclafani are moving into Miami's starting rotation, which means that the struggling Turner will likely move into a longman role. The 23-year-old has a disappointing 6.38 ERA across nine starts this season.
Jun 16 - 4:11 PM

Jacob Turner's struggles continued as he fell to 2-4 after allowing five runs in four innings in Wednesday's loss to the Rangers.

Turner allowed five runs in his third consecutive start. He surrendered six hits, walked one, and struck out four. The right-hander, a consensus top prospect as part of the Tigers' system several years ago, has struggled mightily in 2014. He carries a 6.38 ERA with a 1.65 WHIP, but he'll look to lower both in next week's home start against the Cubs.
Jun 11 - 11:15 PM

Jacob Turner struggled but still managed to pick up a win Thursday, allowing five runs over 5 1/3 frames in an 11-6 victory over the Rays.

Turner yielded eight hits -- including a pair of home runs -- while walking one and striking out three. It was odd to see him sent back out for the sixth after serving up a pair of longballs in the fifth, and he allowed a single and a triple to kick off the frame. With a 5.93 ERA over eight starts, Turner's leash can't be long at this point. He'll try to bounce back next week in Texas.
