Jacob Turner (elbow) will be shut down for the next month.
A second opinion has confirmed that Turner is dealing with a bone bruise and mild flexor strain in his right elbow. "It’s something that, right now, is not smart to throw through, basically," Turner said. "If I try to throw through it, it’s something that could be worse." Turner will obviously begin the season on the disabled list and will be sent out on a rehab assignment at some point before becoming an option for the Cubs. Mar 13 - 2:06 PM

Jacob Turner pitched two scoreless innings Thursday against the Giants.

Turner is looking to win a spot at the back of the Cubs' rotation. He did allow three base runners on a single and two walks, but was able to navigate his way out of trouble. The young right-hander had a rough go of things both before and after coming to the Cubs from the Marlins, finishing with an aggregate 6.13 ERA. Turner has struggled to miss bats in close to 300 major league innings.

Cubs exercised RHP Jacob Turner's $1 million option for 2015.

The 23-year-old hurler endured a brutal 2014 campaign split between the Marlins and the Cubs, posting a horrifying 6.13 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 71/33 K/BB ratio over 113 innings. He'll head into spring training looking to secure one of the final spots in Joe Maddon's Opening Day rotation.

Jacob Turner allowed two runs over five innings in a win over the Brewers Sunday.

Turner bounced back from a couple poor starts to earn the win in his last start of the season, giving up four hits and three walks over his five innings. It was a strange season for the 23-year-old, who started and relieved for the Marlins before being designated for assignment and joining the Cubs. He finishes 6-11 with a 6.13 ERA, but he's still got enough talent and upside to make a positive impact in the near future.

Jacob Turner allowed five runs on eight hits over five innings in a loss to the Dodgers Sunday.

Turner gave up three extra-base hits among his eight hits allowed, including Matt Kemp's two-run homer. The loss was the third straight for Turner, dropping him to 5-11 with a 6.33 ERA. Turner will have one more chance to impress the Cubs brass before the offseason, starting Saturday at the Brewers.

Jacob Turner allowed seven runs over 4 1/3 innings in Sunday's loss to the Pirates.

Turner has now been subpar in three of his four starts with the Cubs in what has been an overall forgettable year for the 23-year-old. Sunday's start was going alright until the fifth inning, when the Pirates jumped on him for six runs before he was chased. Turner gave up seven hits and walked three on the day as a whole. He's got another tough meeting next weekend against the Dodgers.

Jacob Turner gave up five runs -- four earned -- in six innings Monday in a loss to the Blue Jays.

Turned had a quality start against the Brewers last week, but he's struggled in two of his three outings since being added to the Cubs rotation. Relief work might be a better situation for him. The Cubs, though, will likely let him finish the season as a starter.

Jacob Turner scattered five hits and allowed one run over six and a third innings on Monday.

This was Turner's second start since replacing Edwin Jackson the Cubs rotation. It went considerably better than his first (in which he allowed six runs). Turner struck out seven and walked only one over his six and a third innings of work. It was a surprisingly clean start for the former-Marlin, who came into the game with a 5.58 ERA and 1.62 WHIP over 90 innings. He'll try to repeat this labor of competency when he duels with the Blue Jays in his next start.

Jacob Turner lasted only 3 2/3 innings, allowing six runs (three earned), in a loss to the Reds on Wednesday.

It was Turner's first start as a Cub after replacing Edwin Jackson in the rotation. The Reds scored twice in the second inning and put up a four-spot in the fourth. Carlos Villanueva relieved Turner with two outs in the inning, but allowed all of his inherited runners to score. Turner yielded seven hits and two walks while striking out one. Turner has ugly numbers, sporting a 5.84 ERA, a 1.63 WHIP, and a 56/25 K/BB ratio. He'll try to improve in a home start against the Brewers on Monday.

Jacob Turner will replace Edwin Jackson in the rotation make his first start for the Cubs on Wednesday.

Jackson's turn actually comes up Tuesday, but Travis Wood will be able to pitch on normal rest then. Turner will be facing the Giants in his first start, which would seem to be a pretty tasty matchup at the moment. Still, he's merely a borderline play in NL-only leagues. In 12 starts for the Marlins, he had a 6.03 ERA.

Jacob Turner will pitch out of the Cubs' bullpen for the time being.

The Cubs will eventually give Turner a chance to start, whether it's later this season or next, but for now he'll be used in relief. The 23-year-old was acquired from the Marlins over the weekend.

Cubs acquired RHP Jacob Turner from the Marlins in exchange for RHPs Tyler Bremer and Jose Arias.

ESPN's Keith Law first reported the deal, and the Cubs have now made it official. Turner was designated for assignment by the Marlins after posting a career 4.77 ERA over 264 innings, but he turned just 23 in May and is a former top prospect, making it a worthy gamble for the rebuilding Cubs.

ESPN's Jim Bowden reports that the Cubs have claimed Jacob Turner off waivers from the Marlins.

The report comes after FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal said Turner had been claimed by an unnamed National League club. It's worth a shot by the Cubs, as Turner is still just 23 and is a former top prospect. The two sides will now work on a trade for the righty, which they shouldn't have problems completing.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Jacob Turner has been claimed off waivers by an unnamed National League team.

It's no surprise that he was scooped up quickly after the Marlins designated him for assignment. Turner has a career 4.77 over 264 innings, but he also turned just 23 in May and is a former top prospect. Rosenthal says that the right-hander is likely to be traded.
