White Sox purchased the contract of C Josh Phegley from Triple-A Charlotte.

The move protects him from the Rule 5 Draft. Phegley, a supplemental first-round pick in 2009, batted .266/.306/.373 with six home runs and a .680 OPS in 102 games at the Triple-A level this year while throwing out 46 percent of attempted basestealers.

After missing most of last season with Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura, Josh Phegley feels great entering spring training.

The young catcher is receiving blood treatments for his platelet count, and if all continues to go well, these treatments will become monthly instead of weekly. He is hoping to pick up where he left off before falling ill last year.

Josh Phegley received an invitation to join the White Sox at spring training.

A former Amateur Draft first round pick, Phegley needs more seasoning in the minors before he can merit serious consideration even for keeper leagues. He should gain some valuable experience in the coming weeks playing alongside the organization's best talent.

White Sox selected catcher Josh Phegley 38th, outfielder Trayce Thompson 61st, LHP David Holmberg 71st and LHP Bryan Morgado 102nd.

Despite already having an offense-first catcher in Tyler Flowers in the system, the White Sox went with another in Phegley, an Indians product. The 5-foot-10, 215-pounder had one of the top bats in the draft, but he is likely to struggle to make it behind the plate. He might prove to be a useful DH.
