Brian Goodwin (wrist) will remain on his rehab assignment with Double-A Harrisburg through this weekend.

Nationals manager Davey Martinez said Thursday that Goodwin could return this weekend, but the club has decided to give the outfielder a little more time. He should be activated early next week. Goodwin has been on the shelf since mid-April with a bruised left wrist.
Jun 1 - 11:27 AM

Nationals manager Davey Martinez said Brian Goodwin (wrist) could be activated this weekend.

Goodwin has appeared in four rehab games for Double-A Harrisburg, going 3-for-15 with a home run and three RBI. A left wrist contusion has kept him out since mid-April.
May 31 - 7:21 PM

Brian Goodwin (wrist) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Harrisburg on Saturday.

Goodwin has been sidelined since mid-April with a left wrist issue. It's not clear how many rehab games he'll require before being activated.
May 25 - 5:17 PM

Brian Goodwin (wrist) swung a bat on Thursday.

Beat writer Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post said Goodwin is closer to a return than teammate Daniel Murphy (knee) but "not super close." It's been about three weeks since Goodwin landed on the DL with a left wrist contusion.
May 10 - 8:31 PM

Brian Goodwin (wrist) is expected to resume swinging soon.

Goodwin had a setback with his injured left wrist last week while working out at the Nationals' spring training complex in Florida, but he's seemingly back on track now. The 27-year-old outfielder could be ready to return to Washington's active roster around mid-May.
May 1 - 4:48 PM

Nationals manager Dave Martinez revealed Monday that Brian Goodwin's left wrist was still sore after he took swings at the team's spring training complex.

Goodwin initially hurt his wrist nearly two weeks ago and was finally placed on the disabled list a week ago. Obviously, the wrist continues to heal more slowly than anticipated. Adam Eaton (ankle) is looking like a safe bet to be activated before Goodwin.
Apr 23 - 8:22 PM

Nationals placed OF Brian Goodwin on the 10-day disabled list with a left wrist contusion.

Goodwin injured his wrist last Wednesday, but was used as a pinch-hitter on Sunday. That will push back his potential return. Andrew Stevenson will take his place on the active roster.
Apr 17 - 3:43 PM

Brian Goodwin (wrist) struck out as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning Sunday against the Rockies.

Goodwin injured his wrist while attempting a diving catch last Wednesday and was held out of the starting lineup on Saturday and Sunday. It's a good sign that he was able to pinch hit on Sunday, so assuming he bounces back fine, look for him to return to the starting lineup soon.
Apr 16 - 8:36 AM

Brian Goodwin was scratched from the Nationals' starting lineup on Saturday due to a sore left wrist.

Goodwin injured his wrist while making a diving catch on Wednesday and it's still a little sore. Moises Sierra will take his place in the lineup against the Rockies and Jon Gray.
Apr 14 - 12:09 PM

Brian Goodwin is dealing with a sore wrist as a result of a diving catch Wednesday.

It's part of the reason the Nationals started Matt Adams in left field Thursday, although Goodwin was available off the bench. Goodwin should be available again Friday, although it's possible he'll be on the bench again with the Rockies throwing left Kyle Freeland.

Apr 13 - 1:56 PM

Brian Goodwin is starting in left field and batting leadoff for the Nationals on Wednesday versus the Braves.

It looks like Goodwin will be the primary fill-in for Adam Eaton, who landed on the disabled list Wednesday morning with a bone bruise in his left ankle. Goodwin has an .836 OPS with one home run and two stolen bases in 11 games (21 at-bats) this season and could carry some short-term fantasy value while Eaton is sidelined.
Apr 11 - 10:13 AM

Brian Goodwin slugged a ninth-inning grand slam to bury the Reds on Saturday.

The Nationals were already ahead 9-5 when Goodwin came to the plate with the bases loaded against reliever Kevin Quackenbush in the final frame. The slam put the game out of reach even though the Reds mounted a rally in the bottom of the inning. Goodwin went 2-for-5 with two runs and four RBI on the day. He will serve as the team's fourth outfielder this year.
Mar 31 - 5:53 PM

Brian Goodwin went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in Saturday's 8-1 Grapefruit League win over the Astros.

Goodwin is expected to reprise last year's role as a backup outfielder again in 2018. He has a good dose of power and speed but is unlikely to ever get enough playing time in Washington's loaded lineup to generate much fantasy value.
Mar 3 - 6:34 PM

Brian Goodwin (groin) will likely be on the Nationals' active roster for the NLDS.

Goodwin landed on the disabled list in mid-August with a strained groin and has been sidelined ever since, but he got in some simulated work at the Nationals' spring training complex toward the end of the regular season and he has apparently looked healthy during team workouts this week in Washington. The 26-year-old left-handed-hitting outfielder posted an impressive .811 OPS in 278 plate appearances this summer with the Nats.
