Brian Goodwin (groin) swung a bat Tuesday.
But he hasn't been cleared for full-intensity running and that remains the big rehab hurdle for Goodwin, who landed on the disabled list August 14 with a left groin strain. He'll be out for at least another week. Aug 22 - 6:02 PM

Nationals placed OF Brian Goodwin on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to August 14, with a left groin strain.

The injury comes with bad timing for Goodwin, who had been drawing regular starts in the Nationals' outfield. He owns a cool .811 OPS with 13 home runs and six stolen bases in 74 games this season. Alejandro De Aza has been called up from Triple-A Syracuse in a corresponding 25-man roster move.
Aug 16 - 10:47 AM

Brian Goodwin (groin) is out of the Nationals' starting lineup on Tuesday night.

Goodwin left Sunday's series finale against the Giants after experiencing tightness in his groin. He remains day-to-day. Michael Taylor is in center field, Howie Kendrick is in left field, and Andrew Stevenson is in right field Tuesday versus the visiting Angels.

Brian Goodwin was forced to leave Sunday's game against the Giants with tightness in his groin.

That means he's unlikely to play in the night cap of Sunday's doubleheader. It doesn't sound like the injury is serious enough to require a trip to the disabled list however, so consider Goodwin day-to-day for the time being.
Aug 13 - 4:39 PM

Brian Goodwin hit a go-ahead solo homer in the eighth inning to lead the Nationals to a 3-2 win over the Marlins on Thursday.

Goodwin was having a good night even before he stepped to the dish against Marlins reliever Junichi Tazawa in the eighth. He proceeded to pull a Tazawa fastball inside the right field foul pole, his 13th homer in 72 games. Goodwin also had a stolen base and an RBI single in the win. The 26-year-old has been a lifesaver for the Nats this year, batting .248/.312/.504 with those 13 homers and five steals filling in for a Nats outfield missing Adam Eaton, Jayson Werth and Michael Taylor.
Aug 10 - 11:24 PM

Brian Goodwin went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored as the Nationals fell to the Marlins on Tuesday.

Aside from Goodwin though, the rest of the Nationals' offense fell flat against Vance Worley and company. The rookie outfielder is now hitting .244/.308/.491 with 12 homers, 28 RBI and four stolen bases.
Aug 8 - 10:20 PM

Brian Goodwin went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and two total RBI in Sunday's win over the Cubs.

Goodwin went yard for the solo shot in the ninth inning. The homer was his 12th of the season and boosted his RBI total to 28. In addition, the outfielder is slashing .240/.307/.489 across 68 games played.
Aug 6 - 6:26 PM

Brian Goodwin crushed his 11th home run of the season as the Nationals topped the Rockies to salvage the nightcap of Sunday's doubleheader.

The fifth inning solo shot off of Jon Gray was lone hit in three at-bats on the night. The 26-year-old is now hitting .246/.311/.502 with 11 homers and 26 RBI on the season.
Jul 30 - 10:23 PM

Brian Goodwin went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Sunday's win over the Diamondbacks.

Goodwin got the game started in fine fashion for the Nationals, socking a solo home run off Robbie Ray to lead off in the top of the first. The dinger was his ninth of the season. In addition to those nine long balls, the 26-year-old outfielder has been working to a .242/.312/.478 triple-slash and has driven in 23 runs across 178 at-bats. He has notched five extra-base hits in his last six games.
Jul 23 - 8:53 PM

Brian Goodwin posted two singles and a double across five at-bats in Saturday's game in Arizona.

Goodwin entered the game hitting just .164 (10-for-61) across the first 15 games in the month of July before his three-hit outing. He continues to get a chance to fill the void left by Trea Turner (wrist) on the shelf, but until Saturday he hadn't done much to endear himself to fantasy owners.
Jul 23 - 2:06 AM

Brian Goodwin is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Mets.

He's getting a breather. Fresh off his walk-off single on Monday, Ryan Raburn will make the start in left field. Michael A. Taylor will bat leadoff while Wilmer Difo will hit second.

Brian Goodwin went 1-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI in Sunday's victory over the Cardinals.

Goodwin plated a run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning. He has seemingly taken over as the club's leadoff hitter since the injury to Trea Turner, giving his fantasy value a boost. He's hitting .263/.338/.515 with six homers, 18 RBI and a stolen base.
Jul 2 - 11:11 PM

Brian Goodwin went 3-for-4, walked twice and blasted a pair of home runs on Friday, leading the Nationals to victory over the Reds.

Goodwin got the Nats on the board with a solo shot off of Luis Castillo in the first inning. He added another solo blast in the seventh off of Wandy Peralta that pulled the Nationals even at 5-5 and would eventually force extra innings. Goodwin also delivered a two-out single in the 10th inning that advanced Trea Turner to third base, setting the stage for Bryce Harper's walkoff winner. Goodwin is hitting .265/.326/.578 with six homers and 15 RBI in his first 92 plate appearances with the Nationals.
Jun 23 - 11:21 PM

Brian Goodwin went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's loss to the Braves.

Goodwin socked a two-run home run off Julio Teheran in the second inning. Those would be the only runs the Nationals scored in the 13-2 drubbing. The home run was his third in his last four games. He is hitting .267/.318/.567 with four homers and 11 RBI in 60 at-bats this season.
Jun 14 - 7:38 PM

Brian Goodwin finished 4-for-5 with a triple and a two-run home run in Friday's game at Oakland.

Goodwin has collected six hits over his past 13 at-bats since his brief demotion to Triple-A Syracuse in late May. It appears he'll see semi-regular playing time as long as Chris Heisey (biceps) remains sidelined.
