Eric Fryer got revenge on his former team Tuesday, going 2-for-4 and notching three RBI in the Pirates' 5-2 defeat of the Cardinals.

Fryer was claimed off waivers from the Cardinals on Saturday and was making his first start as a member of the Bucs. It was a good first impression for Pirates fans, as he collected an RBI single in the fifth inning and added a two-run double in the sixth. Fryer was the victim of a numbers crunch in St. Louis, but the 30-year-old is hitting .381/.422/.452 this season and could earn plenty of playing time in Pittsburgh with Francisco Cervelli sidelined.

Pirates claimed C Eric Fryer off waivers from the Cardinals.

It's not a surprise that Fryer was scooped up after the Cards designated him for assignment, as he batted .368 (14-for-38) two doubles and five RBI over 24 games for them and flashed good defense. The Pirates are hurting for catching depth with Francisco Cervelli (hand) on the disabled list and Chris Stewart (knee, ankle) banged up.
Jul 3 - 2:29 PM

Cardinals designated C Eric Fryer for assignment.

The move clears a spot for Bryan Pena on the active roster. Fryer has played well in sporadic duty with the Cardinals this season, batting .368 (14-for-38) two doubles and five RBI over 24 games.
Jun 28 - 1:38 PM

Eric Fryer went 3-for-3 with a walk, two doubles, and two RBI on Sunday against the Reds.

Fryer drew his first start of the season Sunday with Yadier Molina finally taking a rest and the career backup now stands 6-for-6 as a member of the Cardinals. Perhaps the hot start will earn him a bit more playing time -- and allow Molina to get more early breathers -- but Fryer is really just holding down the fort until Brayan Pena is recovered from a knee injury.
Apr 18 - 8:29 AM

Cardinals purchased the contract of C Eric Fryer from Triple-A Memphis.

Fryer will function as the primary backup to Yadier Molina while Brayan Pena is sidelined following his knee surgery. The 29-year-old won't hold any fantasy value, even in the deepest of NL-only leagues.
Apr 2 - 2:50 PM

Cardinals signed C Eric Fryer to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Fryer elected free agency late last month after being outrighted off the Twins' 40-man roster. The 29-year-old catcher is highly doubtful to crack the Cardinals' Opening Day roster next spring. He will function as organizational depth at the backstop position.

Eric Fryer has elected free agency.

Fryer had been outrighted off the Twins' 40-man roster and has decided to test out the free agent waters. The 29-year-old backstop spent most of 2015 in the minors, hitting .293/.367/.360 with two homers and 19 RBI in 67 games at Triple-A Rochester.

Eric Fryer went 3-for-6 with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored in Sunday's win over the White Sox.

Fryer had just one RBI and three runs scored through his first 14 games, but the catcher enjoyed a career day Sunday. The home run was the first of his career, and Fryer also stole his first base in the victory. Despite Sunday's outburst, Fryer is a defense-first catcher and can be disregarded in fantasy leagues.
