Fyrer, 25, climbed from the Double-A level to the Triple-A level earlier this year and is now making the big jump to the majors. He had a decent .823 OPS and two home runs in 21 games this year for Indy.

Pirates acquired catcher-outfielder Eric Fryer and RHP Casey Erickson from the Yankees for OF Eric Hinkse and cash.

Fryer hit .250 with 11 doubles, two homers and 24 RBI in 59 games as an outfielder and catcher for Single-A Tampa. He will be assigned Tuesday afternoon to the Pirates' Single-A affiliate in Lynchburg, Virginia. The 23-year-old is probably nothing more than a career minor-leaguer.
