The move was made in order to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Elian Herrera. Oeltjen is batting just .218/.283/.282 at Triple-A Albuquerque this season and should clear waivers and remain in the organization.

Oeltjen batted .278 with a .318 on-base percentage this spring, but he's too far down the Dodgers' outfield depth chart. He will function as organizational depth.

Trent Oeltjen went 0-for-3 and struck out twice in the loss to the Astros on Friday.

The Dodgers probably won't give Oeltjen too long of a look if he doesn't start hitting soon. He's 2-for-11 with five strikeouts and two walks in his three starts. Maybe he'd be OK as a fourth or fifth outfielder, but there isn't a lot of upside here.

Dodgers purchased the contract of OF Trent Oeltjen from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Oeltjen, 28, has hit .339/.429/.583 with eight homers and 34 RBI in 56 games this season at the Triple-A level. The Dodgers will give him playing time in left field and hope that the momentum carries over.

The Dodgers non-tendered Oeltjen last week but moved quickly to bring him back into the fold. The 27-year-old batted .347/.416/.563 with five home runs, 33 RBI and 14 stolen bases in 199 at-bats with Triple-A Albuquerque. He hit .217 with a .357 on-base percentage in 14 games for the Dodgers after a September call-up.

Oeltjen exercised the out-clause in his minor league contract with the Brewers last week. He was hitting .301/.355/.496 with eight homers and 38 RBI with Triple-A Nashville. The 27-year-old outfielder was assigned to Triple-A Albuquerque and will likely function as organizational depth.

Trent Oeltjen left Friday's game against the Athletics after being plunked in the left wrist by Andrew Bailey.

The official diagnosis is a contusion of the left wrist. He'll likely be out of action for a few days. Oeltjen, 27, was signed to a minor league contract by the Brewers in December after hitting .243/.250/.457 with three home runs, four doubles and four RBI in 70 at-bats last season.

Arizona has cleared five 40-man roster spots in about 24 hours. Oeltjen showed surprising power in his first taste of the majors, but hit just .243/.250/.457 in 73 plate appearances overall and doesn't project as more than a fifth outfielder.

Oeltjen, 26, hit .250/.257/.471 with four doubles, three home runs and four RBI in 68 at-bats with Arizona earlier this season. He'll be given random starts down the stretch as the D'Backs finish up a disappointing 2009 campaign and work toward righting the ship next year.

Trent Oeltjen went 4-for-4 with a double, triple and two runs scored in Tuesday's victory over the Mets.

He is making a convincing case to being considered the greatest Oeltjen in major league history. Oeltjen is 12-for-24 on the season with a 1.542 OPS. It's time to snap him up in NL-only leagues and ride him while he's hot.
