Matt Pagnozzi - C - Braves

Braves signed C Matt Pagnozzi to a minor league contract.

Pagnozzi hit just .224/.324/.359 in 78 games this year for the Indians' Triple-A affiliate in Columbus, Ohio. He will be low on the Braves' organizational depth chart.

Indians signed C Matt Pagnozzi to a minor league contract.

Pagnozzi has hit pretty well during his brief stints in the majors but has a .220 batting average over parts of nine seasons in the minors. He's solid defensively, though, and will offer the Tribe organizational depth.

Pirates sent C Matt Pagnozzi outright to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Pagnozzi was claimed off waivers by the Pirates in September, but they've now chosen Brian Jeroloman over him for a spot on the 40-man roster. The 29-year-old has no bat but is a solid defensive backstop.

Pagnozzi batted .286 (6-for-21) with two RBI in nearly a month with the big club. Eliezer Alfonzo will now serve as the primary backup to Chris Iannetta.

Rockies purchased the contract of C Matt Pagnozzi from Triple-A Colorado Springs.

He'll serve as the primary backup to Chris Iannetta now that Jose Morales is out with a broken thumb. Pagnozzi, 28, was batting .275/.340/.418 with one home run and 16 RBI over his first 102 plate appearances at the minor league level this season. He's unlikely to have any fantasy value.

Pagnozzi, 28, has a .333/.391/.452 batting line with one home run and 10 RBI over 49 major league plate appearances, all with the Cardinals. The Rockies intend to add another catcher this offseason, so Pagnozzi would only likely crack the major league roster in the event of an injury or a trade.

Matt Pagnozzi is hoping to replace Jason LaRue as the Cardinals' primary backup catcher for the 2011 season.

LaRue was forced into retirement this year due to a concussion suffered in the Cardinals' on-field brawl with the Reds in early August. Pagnozzi hasn't exactly lit up minor league pitching, but he is strong behind the plate and St. Louis doesn't require an overly active backup. These last several regular season games will act as a kind of audition for the 27-year-old Pagnozzi.

Pagnozzi was batting .242/.338/.309 with one home run and 21 RBI over 207 at-bats with Triple-A Memphis this season. He'll likely function as the third catcher for Cards manager Tony La Russa in September.

The 26-year-old has a career .577 OPS in the minor leagues. He doesn't have much of a future in the major leagues, but will serve as an emergency catcher until the end of the season.

Beachy was cleared after he threw 29 pitches over two innings Tuesday during a start in extended spring training. He's expected to make around five starts in the minors, which puts him on pace to join the Braves around the anniversary of his Tommy John surgery on June 21. 	2	Jonny Venters D.L. Jonny Venters underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery on Thursday afternoon. It's the second time he's had the procedure in his baseball career. Venters can now be ruled out for the remainder of the 2013 season and is also likely to miss the first couple months of the 2014 campaign. It's obviously a pretty big loss for the Atlanta bullpen. 	3	Eric O'Flaherty D.L. Eric O'Flaherty will undergo Tommy John surgery on Tuesday to repair a torn left ulnar collateral ligament. It was inevitable after an MRI over the weekend revealed the bad news. In addition to obviously missing the rest of this season, O'Flaherty will likely be sidelined for the first couple months of the 2014 campaign, as well. May 20
	4	Jordan Walden D.L. Jordan Walden (shoulder) will not be ready to be activated from the disabled list next Monday. That's the first day he's eligible to return, but the right-hander is not quite far along enough. Walden will throw a bullpen session later this week and then head out on a short minor league rehab assignment. He should be ready for activation just before the end of May. May 21
	5	Luis Ayala D.L. Braves placed RHP Luis Ayala on the 15-day disabled list with anxiety disorder. Obviously it's impossible to predict how much time Ayala might miss. David Carpenter has been recalled to take his spot in the bullpen. Apr 30
	6	Cristhian Martinez D.L. Cristhian Martinez (shoulder) still doesn't have a timetable for his return. The Braves reliever has been sidelined since April 12 with a right shoulder sprain, and apparently it was serious enough that the Braves still don't have any idea when he might be back.
