Angels recalled LHP Jose Alvarez from Triple-A Salt Lake.

Alvarez was acquired from the Tigers late in spring training. He'll operate in a long relief role for now but could be an option for a start somewhere down the line.

Angels acquired LHP Jose Alvarez from the Tigers in exchange for INF Andrew Romine.

Alvarez got off to a nice start with the Tigers last season but ultimately wound up with a 5.82 ERA over 38 2/3 innings. The 24-year-old posted a nice 2.80 ERA and 115/25 K/BB ratio over 128 2/3 Triple-A innings in 2013 and will likely begin at that level for the Halos.
Mar 21 - 2:31 PM

Jose Alvarez struggled in a spot start against the Marlins on Friday, surrendering three runs on two hits in just 2 2/3 innings.

Alvarez also issued a pair of walks and struck out three. He departed with the bases loaded in the third inning, giving way to Rick Porcello who was greeted with a three-run double from Giancarlo Stanton. The 24-year-old southpaw wraps up his rookie season with a 5.82 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 31/16 K/BB ratio in 38 2/3 innings. He’s likely to make the Tigers postseason roster as a left-handed reliever.

Tigers optioned LHP Jose Alvarez to Triple-A Toledo.

Alvarez was only in the bullpen as additional depth while Phil coke attempted to right himself at Triple-A. He's likely to return to a similar role once rosters expand in September.

Tigers recalled LHP Jose Alvarez from Triple-A Toledo.

Alvarez has posted a 4.62 ERA and 1.42 WHIP over five starts for the Tigers this season. He'll be used as the second lefty in the bullpen while Phil Coke works things out at Triple-A.

Jose Alvarez pitched decently in a losing effort against the Royals in the nightcap of Friday’s doubleheader, surrendering two runs on five hits over 5 2/3 innings.

Alvarez walked three and struck out five in the spot start. All of the damage against him came on a two-run blast off the bat of Eric Hosmer in the third inning. Alvarez has posted a 1-3 record, 4.62 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in five starts for the Tigers this season. He'll head back to Triple-A Toledo where he'll continue to serve as an emergency option.

Jose Alvarez will start the second half of Friday's day-night doubleheader with the Royals.

Alvarez posted an ugly 5.03 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in four starts with the Tigers earlier this season. He is not a recommended fantasy play on Friday evening.

Tigers optioned LHP Jose Alvarez to Triple-A Toledo.

Alvarez was sent down in order to make room for Anibal Sanchez who will be activated on Saturday. The 24-year-old lefty posted a 5.03 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 17/7 K/BB ratio over 19 2/3 innings in four starts for the Tigers. He could be again be an option should the Tigers suffer another injury in their rotation.

Jose Alvarez lasted just three innings Monday afternoon in the Tigers' loss to the Blue Jays.

Alvarez yielded five runs -- four earned -- and has now allowed a total of 12 runs on 21 hits and seven walks over his first 19 2/3 major league innings for a 5.03 ERA and 1.42 WHIP. He'll likely be shipped back to Triple-A Toledo when Anibal Sanchez (shoulder) returns.

Jose Alvarez allowed four runs in 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Angels on Wednesday.

Alvarez had been better in his first two starts with the club, but the Angels got to him for seven hits -- including two home runs -- and a walk while striking out three. Anibal Sanchez will throw a bullpen session on Thursday and will still need at least one rehab start before returning, so Alvarez will get at least one more start with the Tigers. That start will likely come against the Blue Jays in Toronto on Monday.

Jose Alvarez pitched five innings of two-run ball Thursday in a no-decision against the Red Sox.

Alvarez has been excellent making a couple of spot starts in Anibal Sanchez's place. The Tigers might have saved themselves a lot of hassle if they just stuck with him last week and didn't try to rush Sanchez back.

Tigers recalled LHP Jose Alvarez from Triple-A Toledo.

Alvarez will start for the Tigers on Thursday versus the Red Sox. The left-hander looked sharp in a spot start earlier this month against the Indians but is not an attractive fantasy option outside of AL-only leagues.
Thu, Jun 20, 2013 02:02:00 PM

The Tigers will call up left-hander Jose Alvarez to start Thursday against the Red Sox.

Alvarez will fill in for Anibal Sanchez (shoulder) in the starting rotation. The 24-year-old left-hander struck out seven over six innings of one-run ball against the Indians on June 9 and should carry some value in AL-only leagues for now.
