Red Sox signed OF Quintin Berry to a minor league contract.
The deal includes an invitation to spring training. Berry had a good showing in the Orioles' minor leagues last season, batting .285/.382/.367 with 25 stolen bases. He's a good bench player but will have an uphill battle to break camp with the Red Sox given the wealth of outfielders currently on their roster. Jan 17 - 6:48 PM

Orioles released OF Quintin Berry.

The team claimed Ryan Lavarnway off of waivers and released Berry to make room. Berry's best attribute is his speed, as he stole 30 bases in the minors in 2014. He slashed .285/.382/.367 at Triple-A and could serve as a pinch-runner for whomever picks him up.

Orioles purchased the contract of OF Quintin Berry from Triple-A Norfolk.

Including the postseason, Berry is a perfect 29-for-29 in stolen base attempts in the majors. His speed could come in handy down the stretch.

Orioles reassigned OF Quintin Berry and INF Alexi Casilla to minor league camp.

Berry never really had a shot at an Opening Day roster spot and will function as organizational depth this summer for the Orioles. He is a .268/.339/.371 career hitter in 339 major league plate appearances.

Quintin Berry led off and went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's game against the Twins.

Berry hit just .191 while bouncing between the Royals, Red Sox and Tigers' Triple-A teams last year, but the 29-year-old is trying to win a job with the Orioles as a non-roster invite to camp. Berry's best asset is his speed -- even with the miserable batting average, he still managed to steal 30 bases in the minors in 2013 -- something that the O's might have a use for on their bench. Still, it'll be an uphill climb for him to make the team at this point.

Quintin Berry (back) swung a bat on Thursday morning in Orioles camp and reported feeling fine.

Berry is hoping to make his Grapefruit League debut over the weekend. He was pulled from a drill Monday due to a back spasm and then held out of a few workouts as a precautionary measure. The 29-year-old is trying to win a backup outfield job this spring.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter said that Quintin Berry (back) will remain sidelined until Monday "at the latest."

Berry was pulled from a workout Monday morning due to a back spasm, but an MRI came back negative. The speedy 29-year-old is a non-roster invitee with the Orioles this spring.

Quintin Berry said Tuesday that his back feels "way better."

Berry was pulled from a workout Monday morning due to a back spasm, but he's almost 100 percent certain that an MRI will come back clean. Barring anything unforeseen, the speedy outfielder should return to workouts Wednesday.

Orioles signed OF Quintin Berry to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Berry spent nearly all of 2013 at Triple-A with three different teams, putting up a hideous .191/.309/.257 batting line with 30 steals. He is landing in a good spot, as the O's are unsettled in left field. He could win a bench spot.

Red Sox sent OF Quintin Berry outright to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Berry elected free agency and is now free to sign with any team. He's coming off a terrible season, but won't have any trouble securing a spring training invite this winter. Berry posted an anemic .191/.309/.257 slash line with three homers and 30 steals at Triple-A in 2013.

Red Sox recalled OF Quintin Berry from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Berry was acquired earlier in the week from the Royals. He hit just .191/.309/.257 in 100 games at the Triple-A level this season, but possesses blazing speed and should make for a nice bench addition for the Red Sox as the push towards the postseason. Berry successfully swiped 21 bases in 21 tries for the Tigers in 94 games during the 2012 season.

Berry hasn't played at all in the majors this season, but he went 21-for-21 in stolen base attempts with the Tigers last season while hitting .258/.330/.354 in 94 games. He could function as a pinch-runner in September.
