Tigers signed INF/OF Kevin Russo to a minor league contract.

The 28-year-old utility player has spent his entire seven-year minor league career in the Yankees organization, compiling a .286/.350/.377 batting line. Russo is capable of playing second base, third base and all three outfield positions, and his versatility could allow him to compete for a bench spot with the Tigers in 2013.

Yankees sent INF-OF Kevin Russo outright to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Russo successfully cleared waivers after being designated for assignment by the Bombers last Friday. The utility man will stick around as organizational depth.

The 26-year-old defensive specialist was hitting just .230 through his first 111 plate appearances at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Russo hit .184 in 49 at-bats for the Yankees a season ago. He will latch on somewhere else, but the deck is stacked against him ever receiving another major-league at-bat.

Yankees optioned infielder-outfielder Kevin Russo to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Russo had received just one at-bat in three weeks, so he definitely needed a stint in Triple-A to shake the rust. He hit .188/.250/.229 in 48 at-bats for the Yankees.

Kevin Russo will start at third base for the Yankees on Saturday as Alex Rodriguez remains day-to-day with his hip injury.

Russo will bat eighth for the Yankees, behind Curtis Granderson, against the Astros on Saturday. Russo is 5-for-36 this year in the majors, though most of his starts came in the outfield.

Kevin Russo notched his first two major league hits, including a two-run double in a win over the Mets on Friday night.

The game was scoreless all the way until the seventh inning, when Russo punched a two-run double into the right field corner off Elmer Dessens. Though he was primarily a second baseman in the minor leagues, Russo started in left field on Friday night. It was a memorable night for the kid, but he obviously won't get enough playing time to warrant any fantasy attention.
