Reds optioned RHP Logan Ondrusek to Double-A Pensacola.

Ondrusek has posted a 3.45 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in 174 2/3 innings since the beginning of 2010, but he failed to win a roster spot after a horrible spring that saw him put up a 7.94 ERA. The big righty figures to get a chance with the Reds at some point this season, though.

Reds avoided arbitration with RHP Logan Ondrusek by agreeing to a two-year, $2.3 million contract.

The deal will cover Ondrusek's first two seasons of arbitration eligibility. He's a Super Two qualifier, so he'll have two more arbitration years left once it's through. The 27-year-old right-hander owns a 3.45 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in 174 2/3 innings since the beginning of 2010.

Reds optioned RHP Logan Ondrusek to Triple-A Louisville.

He was sent down in order to make room for Dioner Navarro on the roster. Ondrusek has a solid 3.50 ERA in 53 appearances this year, but he has allowed five runs over 6 2/3 innings this month. He should return when rosters expand in September.

Logan Ondrusek gave up his first five runs of the season in a loss to the Mets on Thursday.

Aroldis Chapman also allowed his first run, though in his case it was unearned. Ondrusek had pitched 15 1/3 scoreless innings this season before getting lit up today. Even after allowing five runs, his ERA stands at 2.76.

Logan Ondrusek has been nursing a sore back but was able to appear in Saturday's game.

He recorded one out and walked a batter in the appearance. "He’s getting better daily," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "We tried to stay away from him (Thursday), which we were able to do. I haven’t heard from my trainers. No news is good news."

Reds activated RHP Logan Ondrusek from the 15-day disabled list.

Logan Ondrusek (forearm) will be activated from the disabled list Tuesday.

He'll have missed the minimum amount of time with a forearm injury. "Everything is on schedule," he said. "I threw a full bullpen two days ago, 45 pitches. I felt strong." Ondrusek was really struggling recently before going on the DL, and the injury surely is at least partly to blame. But, he's still had a nice year despite the recent hiccup, posting a 2.63 ERA and 1.27 WHIP for the season.

Logan Ondrusek (forearm) played catch from "about 105 feet" Saturday and should return to the mound soon.

"I went out and played catch again today, back to about 105 feet," Ondrusek said. "We're right on progress with what we're supposed to be doing. Hopefully sometime next week I'll get on the mound again." Ondrusek expects to be ready to come off the DL on August 23, the first day he's eligible.

Logan Ondrusek (forearm) is expected to return from the disabled list on August 22, the first day he's eligible.

Ondrusek likely will be ready to pitch in a few days, but the Reds' bullpen has been overworked lately and they couldn't afford to wait any longer on the big right-hander. "Yeah, it's frustrating," he said. "Nobody ever likes to be put on the DL. Nobody ever likes to be hurt. It'll be good to just make sure everything is right."

A big hit to the middle of the Reds' bullpen. Ondrusek, 26, has posted a 2.63 ERA and 1.27 WHIP this season in 56 relief appearances. He should be back in three weeks.

Logan Ondrusek fell to 2-2 on the season after surrendering a go-ahead home run in the eighth inning Tuesday against the Brewers.

Most starters don't even have four decisions at this stage. Despite the two losses, Ondrusek is a dependable young arm for the Reds, sporting a 1.29 ERA in 14 innings of work.

Cincinnati gave Ondrusek a shot in April and he allowed 10 runs over just eight innings for an 11.25 ERA. They're obviously hoping things will work out a little better this time around.
