May 21 - 10:43 AM

Royals purchased the contract of RHP Al Alburquerque from Triple-A Omaha.

The right-hander had a 2.63 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and 12/4 K/BB ratio through 13 2/3 innings this season with Omaha. He will work in middle relief for the Royals.
May 10 - 3:38 PM

Royals reassigned RHP Al Alburquerque, RHP Malcom Culver, C Zane Evans, and INF Humberto Arteaga to minor league camp.

Alburquerque was in Royals camp this spring on a non-guaranteed minor league deal and posted a 4.15 ERA across 8 2/3 innings in the Cactus League. It looks like right-hander Peter Moylan will get the final spot in the Kansas City bullpen.
Mar 27 - 1:58 PM

Royals signed RHP Al Albuquerque to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

After being a late-game staple in the Tigers' bullpen for several years, Albuquerque spent most of the 2016 season in the minor leagues, compiling a 3.74 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 35/17 K/BB ratio over 33 2/3 innings primarily at Triple-A Salt Lake (Angels) and Triple-A Tacoma (Mariners). When he's right, he has a devastating slider and can be a weapon in the late innings, but command has always eluded him.
Jan 7 - 12:14 PM

Mariners signed RHP Al Alburquerque to a minor league contract.

This deal was actually agreed upon last week. Alburquerque was released by the Angels on August 13 after posting a pedestrian 3.80 ERA, 1.56 WHIP, and 26/13 K/BB ratio across 23 2/3 innings with Triple-A Salt Lake. The 30-year-old right-hander is now working out of the bullpen at Triple-A Tacoma.

Angels released RHP Al Alburquerque.

The Angels needed to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for reliever Andrew Bailey. Alburquerque has had a so-so year in the minor leagues, contributing a 3.80 ERA in 24 outings for Triple-A Salt Lake. He's made two appearances in the majors this season but none since June.

Angels optioned RHP Al Albuquerque to Triple-A Salt Lake.

The right-hander was with the club for just a couple of days as an extra bullpen arm, allowing one run in two innings of work. He'll assuredly get another opportunity with the big league club this summer.

Angels purchased the contract of RHP Al Alburquerque from Triple-A Salt Lake.

Mike Francesa's favorite reliever is back in the big leagues. Alburquerque has pitched exclusively at the Triple-A level this season, posting a 2.49 ERA and 25/10 K/BB ratio over 21 2/3 innings.

Angels designated RHP Al Alburquerque for assignment.

Alburquerque had been pitching for the Angels' Triple-A affiliate in Salt Lake, logging a 2.40 ERA over 15 innings of work. The 29-year-old made 67 appearances for the Tigers last season and shouldn't have trouble finding a new team.

Angels optioned RHP Al Alburquerque to Triple-A Salt Lake.

The Angels are expected to choose between Greg Mahle and Cam Bedrosian for the final bullpen spot. Alburquerque landed a one-year, $1.1 million deal with the Angels over the winter, but he'll serve as bullpen depth in the minors.
Tue, Mar 29, 2016 12:40:00 PM

Al Alburquerque revealed Thursday that he didn't feel 100 percent until June last season after contracting the Chikungunya virus last January.

"All of my joints hurt, and I couldn't prepare myself properly for the season," Alburquerque said in Spanish. "I didn't start to feel ready until we were two months into the regular season." Albuquerque's ERA in 2015 was actually better through the end of May (3.98) than it was for the rest of the season (4.32), although his strikeout rate was a tick better from June on. Either way, it's obviously good news that Alburquerque is feeling 100 percent now and he could be a nice piece for the Angels' bullpen if he can get his strikeouts back up.

Angels signed RHP Al Alburquerque to a one-year, $1.1 million contract.

The deal was reportedly last week and has now been officially announced. Alburquerque held a 4.21 ERA and 58/33 K/BB ratio over 62 innings for the Tigers last season. While he can miss plenty of bats, the reliever can be erratic at times.
Tue, Jan 19, 2016 05:55:00 PM

MLB Network's Jon Heyman reports that the Angels have agreed to terms with Al Alburquerque on a major league contract, pending a physical.

The deal is reportedly worth $1.1 million. The Tigers non-tendered Alburquerque last month, as they didn't feel he was worth a raise in his second year of arbitration eligibility. The 29-year-old has a career 11.0 K/9 rate, although it fell to a career-low 8.4 last season. Alburquerque should still miss plenty of bats in Anaheim, but his poor control and lack of consistency make him a risky investment.
