Al Alburquerque revealed Thursday that he didn't feel 100 percent until June last season after contracting the Chikungunya virus last January.

"All of my joints hurt, and I couldn't prepare myself properly for the season," Alburquerque said in Spanish. "I didn't start to feel ready until we were two months into the regular season." Albuquerque's ERA in 2015 was actually better through the end of May (3.98) than it was for the rest of the season (4.32), although his strikeout rate was a tick better from June on. Either way, it's obviously good news that Alburquerque is feeling 100 percent now and he could be a nice piece for the Angels' bullpen if he can get his strikeouts back up.

Angels signed RHP Al Alburquerque to a one-year, $1.1 million contract.

The deal was reportedly last week and has now been officially announced. Alburquerque held a 4.21 ERA and 58/33 K/BB ratio over 62 innings for the Tigers last season. While he can miss plenty of bats, the reliever can be erratic at times.

MLB Network's Jon Heyman reports that the Angels have agreed to terms with Al Alburquerque on a major league contract, pending a physical.

The deal is reportedly worth $1.1 million. The Tigers non-tendered Alburquerque last month, as they didn't feel he was worth a raise in his second year of arbitration eligibility. The 29-year-old has a career 11.0 K/9 rate, although it fell to a career-low 8.4 last season. Alburquerque should still miss plenty of bats in Anaheim, but his poor control and lack of consistency make him a risky investment.

Tigers non-tendered RHP Al Alburquerque.

Alburquerque earned $1.725 million this past season while posting a 4.21 ERA and 58/33 K/BB ratio over 62 innings. The Tigers didn't think he was worth a raise via arbitration, but he should draw plenty of interest on the open market.

Al Alburquerque (hip) yielded four runs while retiring just one batter in his return to action Thursday.

He allowed two hits and two walks to the Royals. Alburquerque had been unavailable for over a week with discomfort in his right hip, so hopefully it's not still an issue for him.

Al Alburquerque (hip) threw 10 pitches in a bullpen session Thursday.

Alburquerque hasn't pitched since August 24 due to discomfort in his right hip, but he felt fine during Thursday's bullpen. He could return to action as soon as Friday.

Al Alburquerque underwent an MRI on his right hip Wednesday.

Alburquerque hasn't pitched since August 24 as he manages pain in the hip. More should be known about his condition after the results of the MRI are returned.

Al Alburquerque acknowledged Wednesday that he's been dealing with some soreness in his upper right leg.

The discomfort is near his hip, but Alburquerque hopes to be available out of the Tigers' bullpen on Wednesday night against the Royals. The 29-year-old right-hander holds a 3.52 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, and 50/28 K/BB ratio in 53 2/3 innings this season for Detroit.

Al Alburquerque gave up three runs in his inning of relief Wednesday against the Yankees.

Albuquerque's velocity is well down and he's walked five batters in 4 1/3 innings, which just isn't a very good combination. At this point, it might actually be good news if he's hurt, because he's simply dreadful right now.

Al Alburquerque retired just one of eight batters he faced Friday against the Rays.

He allowed five hits, walked two and as charged with six earned runs. Alburquerque was having a fine spring before this, amassing a 10/1 K/BB ratio in eight innings. Still, this is probably all of the excuse that Brad Ausmus needs to keep him out of setup role in the early going.

Tigers and RHP Al Alburquerque avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.725 million contract.

Alburquerque had asked for $2.05 million and the Tigers offered $1.375 million, so the two sides met close to the midpoint. Alburquerque had a 2.51 ERA and 63/21 K/BB ratio in 57 1/3 innings this past season but remains nothing more than a middle relief option for the Tigers.

Al Alburquerque requested $2.05 million and was offered $1.375 million by the Tigers were arbitration figures were exchanged.

MLBTradeRumors.com's projected of $1.7 million is right around the midpoint of the figures. The two sides seem likely to meet in the middle in order to avoid a hearing next month.

Tigers avoided arbitration with RHP Al Alburquerque by agreeing to a one-year, $837,500 contract.

Alburquerque was arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter after qualifying for Super Two status. He put up a 4.59 ERA but struck out a whopping 70 batters over 49 innings last season.
Fri, Jan 17, 2014 03:09:00 PM

Tigers recalled RHP Al Alburquerque from Triple-A Toledo.

Alburquerque continued to struggle with walks since his demotion to Triple-A, but he also continued to strike batters out at an eye-popping rate. In the majors and minors combined, the righty holds a 53/26 K/BB ratio over 28 2/3 innings this season. Manager Jim Leyland doesn't totally trust him given his control issues, but it wouldn't be a surprise if he winds up giving his big arm some high-leverage innings.
