White Sox and RHP Javy Guerra avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $937,500 contract.
Guerra qualified for arbitration this winter as a Super Two player, so he'll go through the process for four years as opposed to the usual three. The 29-year-old posted a 2.91 ERA with a 38/20 K/BB ratio over 46 1/3 innings last season and figures to pitch in middle relief in 2015. Jan 15 - 5:17 PM

Javy Guerra is expected to be activated from the bereavement list on Saturday.

White Sox placed RHP Javy Guerra on the bereavement list.

The right-hander will be away from the club for up to three days. He has done a nice job out of the White Sox bullpen, compiling a 3.00 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 32/14 K/BB ratio over 33 frames.

After bailing the White Sox out in the eighth, Javy Guerra took a blown save and a loss while giving up two runs in the ninth Wednesday against the Red Sox.

Jake Petricka struggled after coming in with two outs in the eighth, retiring none of the four hitters he faced. That led to Guerra coming on with men on second and third and two outs in a one-run game. He got Mike Carp to ground out, but then he hit a batter, gave up an RBI double and surrendered a game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth. It'd seem to bode well for Zach Putnam getting the White Sox's next save chance.

White Sox purchased the contract of RHP Javy Guerra from Triple-A Charlotte.

He'll take the place of the injured Matt Lindstrom (ankle) on the active roster. Guerra, 28, is a familiar face from his time with the Dodgers. He had a 2.33 ERA and 11/8 K/BB ratio in 19 1/3 innings at the Triple-A level this year.

White Sox sent RHP Javy Guerra outright to Triple-A Charlotte.

Guerra had been claimed off waivers from the Dodgers on Wednesday, but he won't be part of the White Sox' Opening Day roster. The 28-year-old has enjoyed some success in the majors in the past but held a 6.75 ERA over just nine appearances for Los Angeles last season.

White Sox claimed RHP Javy Guerra off waivers from the Dodgers.

Guerra was designated for assignment by the Dodgers earlier this month. The 28-year-old has enjoyed some success in the majors in the past, so it's a worthwhile gamble for Chicago.

Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports that the Dodgers are receiving significant interest in Javy Guerra and are expected to trade him soon.

Guerra was designated for assignment earlier in the week to clear a spot on the 40-man roster. The former closer has an electric arm, and should appeal to many teams with deficiencies in the back end of their bullpens.

Javy Guerra is expected to be claimed off waivers or traded, reports the MLB Daily Dish's Chris Cotillo.

The former closer entered last season having put up a 2.45 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 75/41 K/BB ratio over 91 2/3 innings the previous two seasons while saving 29 games for the Dodgers, but 2013 turned into a nightmare. He posted a 6.75 ERA and 12/6 K/BB ratio over 10 2/3 innings before Los Angeles banished him to the minors for good in May. The 28-year-old, who was designated for assignment on Sunday, hasn't even accrued two service years yet. The interest he's generating isn't a surprise.

Dodgers designated RHP Javy Guerra for assignment

These are the tough decisions that the Dodgers have to make with a bullpen stockpiled with talent. The 28-year-old hurler struggled in 2013, but posted a 2.45 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 75/41 K/BB ratio over 91 2/3 innings the previous two seasons while saving 29 games for the Dodgers. He should attract plenty of interest from around the league.

Dodgers optioned RHP Javy Guerra to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Peter Moylan has replaced him on the active roster. Guerra has a 6.75 ERA and 12/6 K/BB ratio over 10 2/3 innings with the Dodgers this season and figures to get another shot in the bullpen before long.

Dodgers recalled RHP Javy Guerra from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Guerra failed to make the Opening Day roster despite having put up a 2.45 ERA over the last two seasons for the Dodgers. The former closer was pitching in Albuquerque's rotation, holding a 4.02 ERA over four starts. He'll work in long relief.
Tue, Apr 30, 2013 06:52:00 PM

Javy Guerra is in the starting rotation with Triple-A Albuquerque, but only to be stretched out to about three innings.

In other words, the Dodgers are looking at him as long man out of the bullpen. Guerra didn't make the Opening Day roster, but he should be back in the majors before long.
Tue, Apr 2, 2013 03:05:00 PM

Dodgers optioned RHP Javy Guerra to Triple-A Albuquerque and reassigned RHP Juan Abreu to minor league camp.

Guerra was the Dodgers' Opening Day closer last season, but he fell behind in camp this spring due to injuries and will now be stretched out as a long reliever in the minor leagues. A non-roster invite, Abreu will continue to serve as organizational bullpen depth.
