Hector Ambriz (ankle) will throw off a mound Friday.

Ambriz has been limited to playing catch since rolling his ankle last week during a fielding drill. He's a little behind schedule but should have no trouble being ready for Opening Day.

Hector Ambriz (ankle) threw lightly on Monday.

Ambriz rolled his ankle last week during a fielding drill, but he is already out of his protective boot and should be performing full workouts again by the end of this week. The 28-year-old right-hander is expected to function as a setup man this season out of the Astros bullpen.

MLB.com's Brian McTaggart reports that X-rays on Hector Ambriz's left ankle came back negative.

Ambriz rolled his ankle while trying to cover first base during a fielding drill this week and was spotted in a walking boot Friday. However, the injury doesn't appear to be serious and he should continue to be viewed as day-to-day.

Ambriz rolled his right ankle Thursday while trying to cover first base during a fielding drill. He should be considered day-to-day at this point.

Ambriz should be back in action in a couple of days. The 28-year-old right-hander is locked into a setup job.

Astros purchased the contract of RHP Hector Ambriz from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Ambriz was sporting a 3.33 ERA in 24 1/3 innings at the Triple-A level. He will operate as a middle reliever.

Ambriz was cut loose by the Indians on Sunday and didn't take long to find a new home. He's been assigned to Triple-A Oklahoma City but will have a shot to land a bullpen spot with a 'Stros eventually.

Indians released RHP Hector Ambriz.

Ambriz, a Rule 5 pick from the Diamondbacks in 2009 and a former fifth-round draft pick out of UCLA, posted a 5.59 ERA in the majors in 2010 and never made his way back after undergoing Tommy John surgery on his right elbow late in that season. The 28-year-old right-hander has a 3.55 ERA at the Triple-A level after missing all of last season. He'll latch on elsewhere as organizational depth.

Hector Ambriz will undergo Tommy John surgery on his right elbow Friday.

The surgery will be performed by Dr. Lewis Yocum. It's unlikely that we'll see him back on a major league mound until the 2012 season. The 26-year-old right-hander posted a 5.59 ERA and 37/17 K/BB over 48 1/3 innings with the Indians this season.

Indians placed RHP Hector Ambriz on the 60-day disabled list with a sore right elbow.

Ambriz is scheduled to meet with Dr. Lewis Yocum this week about discomfort that he is feeling in his pitching elbow. He posted a 5.59 ERA and a 1.76 WHIP in 48-plus innings of the Tribe's bullpen this year.

Let's hope the visit is simply a precautionary one. Ambriz, 26, was officially shut down for the season on Tuesday after complaining of soreness in his throwing elbow. He had a 5.59 ERA and 37/17 K/BB ratio in 48 1/3 innings.

Ambriz was selected with the fifth pick in last year's Rule 5 Draft and posted a 5.59 ERA and 1.76 WHIP in 48 1/3 innings for the Tribe this season. The 26-year-old righty will fight for a bullpen spot next spring.
