Bobby Cassevah was removed from Friday night's game against the Reds in the eighth inning due to an undisclosed injury.

No word yet on what the injury is, or the extent of it. Rockies skipper Walt Weiss and the team trainer went out to the mound and conferred with Cassevah before he was taken out of the game. He's competing for a role in the Opening Day bullpen, which could be at risk if the injury requires him to miss any significant time.

Rockies signed RHP Bobby Cassevah to a minor league contract.

The 27-year-old chose to become a free agent after being removed from the Angels' 40-man roster on Thursday. Cassevah appeared in just four games for Anaheim last season and has logged only 64 2/3 career major league innings. He'll be nothing more than bullpen depth for the Rockies.

Cassevah, who began the year on the DL with a sore right shoulder, has a 6.14 ERA and 4/5 K/BB ratio over 7 1/3 innings this season between High-A Inland Empire and Triple-A Salt Lake. He'll continue to work out the kinks in the minors.

Bobby Cassevah has been nursing some shoulder tightness but is scheduled to resume throwing in the next few days.

The right-hander dealt with a shoulder issue last spring, as well, and wound up beginning the year on the disabled list. It doesn't sound like this situation is as serious, though. If healthy, Cassevah will compete for a middle relief role.

He'll replace the injured Fernando Rodney on the active roster. Cassevah, 25, had a 4.64 ERA and 12/10 K/BB ratio over his first 21 1/3 innings at the Triple-A level this season. He posted a 3.15 ERA in 16 appearances with the Angels last season. Look for him in middle relief.
