Neil Wagner has signed a one-year, $750,000 contract with the Seibu Lions in Japan.
Wagner last appeared in a major league game back in 2014 with the Blue Jays, though he did post some pretty intriguing numbers this past season between the Triple-A affiliates of the Rays and Mets. The 33-year-old right-hander should do well in Nippon Professional Baseball and could look to return to MLB in 2019. Wed, Dec 13, 2017 08:32:00 AM

Wagner began the year with the Rays' Triple-A affiliate, putting up a 3.07 ERA and 41/14 K/BB ratio over 44 innings. The 33-year-old hasn't pitched in the majors since 2014.

Rays re-signed RHP Neil Wagner to a minor league contract.

Wagner, 32, held a 4.81 ERA but struck out a batter per inning at Triple-A Durham this season in his first year back from Tommy John surgery. He'll provided relief depth from the right side.

Neil Wagner made his first minor league appearance since 2014 on Tuesday with High-A Charlotte.

Wagner underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery in August 2014 and ran into a couple of setbacks in his rehab. But he looked great Tuesday, throwing a perfect inning for the Stone Crabs while touching 95 mph on the radar gun. The 32-year-old right-hander could make his way into the Tampa Bay bullpen at some point this summer.

Rays signed RHP Neil Wagner to a minor league contract.

Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith says it's a two-year deal that includes an invitation to 2016 spring training. Wagner, 30, was released by the Blue Jays earlier this month after having Tommy John surgery in August. It's no surprise that there was interest in Wagner, whose fastball sat in the mid-90s pre-surgery. If he regains his old form, it could prove to be a nice under-the-radar signing by the Rays.

Neil Wagner (elbow) will see Dr. James Andrews next week.

Wagner, out since mid-June with a strained forearm, threw just three pitches in a minor league rehab appearance with the GCL Blue Jays last Thursday before leaving with elbow pain. The fear is that he could have ligament damage, which could potentially require Tommy John surgery. The 30-year-old has appeared in 46 games with the Blue Jays over the past two seasons.

Neil Wagner (forearm) will begin a rehab assignment with the Gulf Coast League Blue Jays on Monday.

Wagner has been out since mid-June with a strained forearm. He was at Triple-A when he got hurt but should be a part of the Blue Jays' bullpen in September if he can avoid setbacks.

Neil Wagner (forearm) will throw a bullpen session next week.

Wagner has been progressing nicely of late after missing the last month with a forearm strain. He was at Triple-A Buffalo when injured and will return there once he's healthy.

Neil Wagner (forearm) has resumed throwing.

Wagner was shut down for about a month after being diagnosed with a right forearm strain. That injury often leads to Tommy John surgery, but he paid a visit to Dr. James Andrews in June and was prescribed rest. The right-hander could again be an option for the Blue Jays' bullpen at some point later this season.

Dr. James Andrews examined Neil Wagner's sore right forearm earlier this week and recommended rest.

Wagner has been diagnosed with a forearm strain -- an injury that often leads to Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery. But the hope for now is that he'll be able to avoid that procedure and the 12-15 month recovery process that comes with it. Wagner had allowed nine earned runs in 10 innings this season for Toronto. He was a valuable middle reliever in 2013.
