Mets signed LHP Fernando Abad to a minor league contract.
Abad was released by the Phillies last week after getting torched in three Grapefruit League appearances. The 32-year-old southpaw registered a 3.30 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in 42 2/3 innings for the Red Sox in 2017. He'll head to Triple-A Las Vegas for now, but could be a part of the New York bullpen at some point in 2018. Mar 25 - 3:21 PM

Phillies released LHP Fernando Abad.

Abad got torched for six earned runs over just 1 2/3 innings (three appearances) this spring in the Grapefruit League. The 32-year-old left-hander was in Phillies camp on a minor league contract as a non-roster invitee.

Phillies signed LHP Fernando Abad to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

The 32-year-old southpaw posted a 3.30 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 37/14 K/BB ratio across 42 2/3 innings for the Red Sox in 2017. He should have a decent shot of cracking the Phillies' Opening Day bullpen with a strong showing in the spring.

According to Robert Murray of FanRag Sports, Fernando Abad is getting close to signing.

"Multiple teams" are said to be involved and the thought is that something could get done in the next few days. Abad is one of the more appealing relievers left on the market, especially for teams in need of a southpaw. The 32-year-old had a 3.30 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and 37/14 K/BB ratio over 43 2/3 innings last season with Boston.

Craig Mish of SiriusXM reports that "several teams" are showing interest in Fernando Abad.

Mish lists the Reds, White Sox, Orioles, Giants, Braves and A's as possible fits for the left-handed reliever. Abad is coming off a fine 2017 campaign that saw him post a 3.30 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 37/14 K/BB ratio over 43 2/3 innings. He also held left-handed batters to a .227/.288/.348 batting line.

The Red Sox announced Tuesday that an arbitration panel ruled in their favor after a hearing with left-handed reliever Fernando Abad.

This was Boston's first arbitration hearing since Rolando Arrojo in 2002. Abad requested $2.7 million, but the panel ruled that he'll make the team's submitted salary of $2 million for 2017. The southpaw struggled to the tune of a 6.39 ERA over 18 appearances with Boston after being acquired from the Twins last August.

Red Sox team president Dave Dombrowski said Saturday that the club expects to go to an arbitration hearing with Fernando Abad.

Abad requested $2.7 million from the club when arbitration figures were exchanged while the Red Sox countered at $2 million. MLBTradeRumors.com projected that he would earn $2 million through the arbitration process, which would point to the Red Sox winning in a potential hearing.

Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski indicated Tuesday that the club will tender a contract to reliever Fernando Abad.

Abad struggled to the tune of a 6.39 ERA over 18 appearances after being acquired from the Twins in August and was left off the postseason roster. However, he's only projected to make around $2 million in his final year of arbitration eligibility, so the Red Sox will take their chances on bringing him back. The 30-year-old had a 2.65 ERA and 29/14 K/BB ratio over 34 innings prior to the trade.

Red Sox acquired LHP Fernando Abad from the Twins for RHP Pat Light.

Abad will presumably join the Boston bullpen on Tuesday, unless he can make it to Seattle before Monday night's series opener. The left-hander has registered a 2.65 ERA in 34 innings this season while holding left-handed hitters to a .163/.192/.265 batting line. It's a nice quiet addition for the Red Sox.

Fernando Abad has been traded to the Red Sox, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.

It's a nice low-key addition for the Boston bullpen. Abad, 30, has registered a 2.65 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 29/14 K/BB ratio in 34 innings this season for the Twins and he's been especially lethal against left-handed batters. He'll be eligible for arbitration this winter. Pat Light, a 25-year-old right-handed reliever, will head to Minnesota in return.

In his 288th major league appearance, Fernando Abad notched his first save by retiring all four Phillies he faced on Wednesday.

The Twins mentioned that Abad could see some save chances after Kevin Jepsen was pulled from the role. Brandon Kintzler still looks like the favorite for saves at the moment, but Abad, who might serve as the team's All-Star this year, could pick up the odd opportunity.

Twins activated LHP Fernando Abad from the bereavement list.

Abad has been away from the team since Saturday. The southpaw has tossed 4 1/3 scoreless innings so far this season to go along with a 4/2 K/BB ratio.

Twins placed LHP Fernando Abad on the bereavement list.

Abad will be away from the team for a day or two. The 30-year-old southpaw has been terrific this season, hurling 4 1/3 scoreless innings while posting a 4/2 K/BB ratio. Ryan O'Rourke was recalled from Triple-A to replace him in the Twins bullpen for the time being.

Twins selected the contract of LHP Fernando Abad from Triple-A Rochester.

The Twins' Opening Day roster is now set. Abad earned the last bullpen spot by recording a 2.61 ERA over 10 appearances this spring. He'll be used in mid relief, probably as a lefty specialist.
Sat, Apr 2, 2016 06:41:00 PM

Twins signed LHP Fernando Abad to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Abad struggled to the tune of a 4.15 ERA over 47 2/3 innings with the A's in 2015, but the left-hander had a tremendous year with Oakland in 2014. It's a worthwhile gamble for the Twins, who entered the offseason in need of a couple bullpen upgrades. Abad, 30, should be able to land an Opening Day roster spot in Minnesota if he pitches halfway decently in the Grapefruit League next spring.
