Athletics and LHP Fernando Abad avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.0875 million contract.

It's a nice raise for the 29-year-old hurler who will more than double his salary from a season ago. He's coming off a fantastic 2014 campaign where he compiled a 1.57 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 51/15 K/BB ratio over 57 1/3 innings.

Fernando Abad requested $1.225 million and was offered $850,000 from the Athletics when arbitration figures were exchanged.

The 29-year-old southpaw did a terrific job out of the A's bullpen in 2014, compiling a 1.57 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 51/15 K/BB ratio over 57 1/3 inning. MLBTradeRumors.com projects Abad to earn $900,000, which is very close to the A's offer and would still represent a nice upgrade over his $525,900 from a season ago.

Fernando Abad was ejected from Sunday's game against the Orioles for allegedly throwing at Manny Machado.

With the A's holding a 10-0 lead in the eighth inning, and Manny Machado trying to instigate trouble since the first game of the series, it doesn't take a leap of faith to believe that Abad was indeed throwing at Machado. Both benches wound up clearing after the incident, though no further trouble came from it.

Athletics acquired LHP Fernando Abad from the Nationals for OF John Wooten.

Abad was designated for assignment by the Nats last week despite posting a steady 3.35 ERA and 32/10 K/BB ratio in 37 2/3 innings this season. He should get a look for a bullpen spot next spring in A's camp.

Nationals designated LHP Fernando Abad for assignment.

The move was made to clear space on the team's 40-man roster. Abad had a decent 2013, posting a 3.35 ERA and 32/10 K/BB ratio over 37 2/3 innings. The 27-year-old will need to pass through waivers if the Nats hope to hold onto him.

Nationals purchased the contract of LHP Fernando Abad from Triple-A Syracuse.

Abad, 27, had a 1.06 ERA and 12/2 K/BB ratio in 17 innings over 17 appearances in Triple-A. The Nationals are lacking a true left-handed specialist, so there's a chance that he could stick around. However, Abad owns a 5.10 ERA in 88 appearances in the majors.

Nationals signed LHP Fernando Abad to a minor league contract.

Abad put up a 5.10 ERA over 88 appearances -- six starts -- for the Astros over the last three seasons. He'll provide minor league depth.

Fernando Abad has elected free agency.

He'll look around for a new job rather than accept a minor league assignment. Abad posted a 5.06 ERA over 46 innings for the Astros this season while splitting time between the bullpen and the rotation.

Fernando Abad (oblique) faced two batters, retiring one, Wednesday in the Astros' season finale.

Abad hadn't pitched since leaving his start on September 24 with a strained right oblique muscle. The 26-year-old finishes the season with a 5.09 ERA and 1.65 WHIP.

Fernando Abad left Monday's start with a strained right oblique.

Abad suffered the injury in the second inning. Oblique injuries can be pretty tricky, so it's very possible he'll be shut down for the rest of the season.

Fernando Abad left Monday's start in the second inning with an undisclosed injury.

Abad threw a pitch to Daniel Descalso with two outs and one on in the inning before the Astros' trainer came to the mound and eventually led the lefty to the clubhouse. The team should update his status soon.

Fernando Abad was blasted for five runs -- four earned -- on six hits and three walks over just four innings in Wednesday's loss to the Pirates.

He needed 87 pitches to get through the four frames. It's fair to say the Astros' experiment with Abad in the rotation hasn't worked, as he's been drilled for 11 earned runs over just 12 1/3 frames in his first three starts. Assuming he's still in the rotation, he'll face the Cubs next week.

Fernando Abad was destroyed in Friday's loss to the Reds, surrendering six runs on nine hits over 4 1/3 innings.

He walked two and struck out only one in the poor performance. Zack Cozart got the Reds on the board with a two-run homer in the third inning, then they broke it open with a four-run fifth inning, highlighted by a three-run blast off the bat of Jay Bruce. He'll look to improve upon his 0-2 record and 4.83 ERA in his next outing against the Pirates in Pittsburgh on Wednesday.

Astros recalled LHP Fernando Abad from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Abad will make his first major league start Saturday against the Mets. The 26-year-old was recently moved to the starting rotation in Triple-A, where he's posting a 4.50 ERA and 9/3 K/BB in 14 innings (three starts). Abad has appeared in 81 games out of the bullpen, including 30 this season.
