Tigers manager Brad Ausmus confirmed that Alex Wilson (shoulder) will be available to pitch Tuesday.
Wilson was unavailable for a few days due to some shoulder fatigue but threw a bullpen session Monday and is ready to go. Ausmus didn't commit to using Wilson as his closer if an opportunity arises, saying "there's nothing set in stone at this point." He's still probably the best bet to be used in the ninth inning, but Bruce Rondon -- who picked up a save Saturday -- should also be owned in fantasy leagues. Aug 11 - 6:45 PM

Alex Wilson (shoulder) felt good after his bullpen session on Monday and should be available to pitch on Tuesday.

Wilson's dealing with a bout of arm fatigue, but it sounds like it's nothing major. He threw a short side session on Monday and assuming his arm feels fine in the morning, he'll likely be available for Tuesday's game against the Royals.

Alex Wilson (shoulder) threw a 10-pitch side session on Monday.

Wilson's session wasn't very long, just 10 pitches. He wasn't available for this weekend's series against the Red Sox, as he's been dealing with shoulder fatigue. The Tigers have not announced a definitive time table for his return, but Wilson has not been placed on the disabled list of yet and it's possible the arm fatigue won't keep him out for long.

Alex Wilson wasn't available for Saturday's game against the Red Sox because of shoulder fatigue.

Bruce Rondon picked up the save in Wilson's absence. Wilson is certainly worth holding onto in fantasy. He hasn't allowed a run since the All-Star break and has held opponents to a .228 average this season. Consider him day-to-day.
Aug 8 - 11:04 PM

Alex Wilson got the final out of the ninth inning to pick up his second save, sealing Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Royals.

Reliever Blaine Hardy got two quick outs, before Alex Wilson was brought in. Salvador Perez singled, and pinch-runner Jarrod Dyson stole second base, but Alex Rios hit a fly out to end the game. Wilson is expected to handle the lion's share of save opportunities over the final two months with Joakim Soria gone. He's 2-for-2 since the Soria trade and overall has a 1.75 ERA with a 33/8 K/BB ratio in 57 1/3 innings.
Aug 5 - 9:56 PM

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus confirmed Saturday that he'll "probably" use Alex Wilson as his closer.

Wilson notched his first career save on Thursday when he recorded the final five outs of the game and it appears that he's Ausmus' top option for the ninth inning following the trade of Joakim Soria. "I'll probably use Wilson at the back end, maybe (Blaine) Hardy at the back end if there are lefties," Ausmus said. "(Neftali) Feliz and (Bruce) Rondon hopefully can stretch through the seventh and eighth somehow." Wilson boasts a 1.79 ERA on the season, although he's struck out just 33 over 55 1/3 innings. He doesn't have typical closer stuff but obviously needs to be owned in all fantasy leagues.
Aug 2 - 10:10 AM

Alex Wilson got five outs for his first save Thursday in the Tigers' 9-8 win over the Orioles.

Wilson had just two holds all year, so he was never seen as a setup man in front of Joakim Soria. Nevertheless, he was Brad Ausmus's choice to close tonight. He likely would have started the ninth had everything gone as planned, but after Al Alburquerque allowed two of the first three batters to reach in the eighth, Ausmus decided to go to Wilson right then. Wilson allowed one of the inherited runners to score, but finished the Orioles off from there. He might be the favorite for saves in the Tigers pen, at least until he blows one.
Jul 30 - 11:33 PM

Alex Wilson fired three hitless innings Wednesday in the Tigers' win over the Athletics.

The right-handed reliever was forced into a spot start because Kyle Ryan didn't make it to Oakland's Coliseum in time. Ryan entered the game later and actually wound up getting the win. Wilson issued one walk and recorded one strikeout in his three shutout frames. He will head back to the bullpen with a 1.99 ERA and 0.71 WHIP in 22 2/3 total innings for the season.
May 27 - 6:50 PM

Alex Wilson will start on Wednesday versus the Athletics.

Kyle Ryan wasn't able to get to the ballpark in time, forcing Wilson to come in from the bullpen for a spot start. Ryan figures to arrive at some point during the game, so it basically could just wind up being he and Wilson flip-flopping the order in which they pitch.

Tigers recalled RHP Alex Wilson from Triple-A Toledo.

Wilson was one of the last cuts from Tigers camp this spring. The 28-year-old right-hander posted an impressive 1.91 ERA and 0.88 WHIP in 28 1/3 innings of relief last season for the Red Sox and should be an asset in long relief for Detroit.
Apr 23 - 9:32 AM

Tigers optioned RHP Alex Wilson to Triple-A Toledo.

Wilson, who pitched for the Red Sox in 2013 and 2014, was tagged for 10 runs over just 6 2/3 innings this spring. That wasn't good enough to crack Detroit's bullpen, but he's useful relief depth to have around.
Mar 24 - 3:25 PM

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus admitted Friday that six of the team's seven bullpen spots are virtually locked up already.

The one remaining spot is for a second left-hander who has the ability to work multiple innings. That means Alex Wilson and Josh Zeid are on the outside looking in after the addition of Joba Chamberlain earlier in the week. Each will assuredly get their chance at some point during the season.
Feb 28 - 11:08 AM

Tigers acquired RHP Alex Wilson, OF Yoenis Cespedes, and RHP Gabe Speier from the Red Sox for RHP Rick Porcello.

Wilson had a promising 1.91 ERA, 0.88 WHIP, and 19/5 K/BB ratio in 28 1/3 innings this past season out of the Boston bullpen. The Tigers needed all the bullpen help they could get, and the 28-year-old Wilson should be a nice addition to middle relief.

Red Sox recalled RHP Alex Wilson from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Wilson has a 3.38 ERA and 1.31 WHIP in 5 1/3 innings this season at the major league level. The right-hander will pitch in a middle relief role for the Red Sox.

Red Sox optioned RHP Alex Wilson to Triple-A Pawtucket.

The Red Sox needed a fresh arm after Wilson threw 2 1/3 relief innings Saturday. Steven Wright is taking his spot in the bullpen.
