Tigers activated RHP Alex Wilson from the 15-day disabled list.
He'll take the place of Buck Farmer in the Tigers bullpen. Wilson served as the club's closer to finish the 2015 campaign and will work in a setup role in a rebuilt Tigers bullpen this year. He's probably third in line for saves though, so his fantasy value is limited to formats that count holds. Apr 16 - 10:02 AM

Alex Wilson (shoulder) is moving his rehab assignment to Triple-A Toledo.

Wilson allowed three earned runs on seven hits in 3 1/3 innings (two appearances) with High-A Lakeland. He'll try for better results at the Triple-A level with an eye on joining the Detroit bullpen by the end of this week. Wilson landed on the disabled list at the end of spring training after battling right shoulder soreness for much of March.
Apr 11 - 10:33 AM

Alex Wilson (shoulder) began a rehab assignment with High-A Lakeland on Thursday.

It wasn't an encouraging performance, as Wilson allowed three runs on four hits -- including two homers -- over 1 1/3 innings of work. He's eligible to be activated on Saturday, but the Tigers could give him a little more time to get sharp.
Apr 8 - 9:43 AM

Tigers placed RHP Alex Wilson on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 25, with a right shoulder injury.

Wilson has been plagued by right shoulder soreness all spring, but has made progress toward a return in recent days. He's expected to be ready to join the Tigers bullpen at some point in April.
Apr 3 - 4:56 PM

Alex Wilson (shoulder) threw a 26-pitch live batting practice session on Sunday.

It's obviously a big step for the reliever, as he's been sidelined all camp by a shoulder issue. Wilson will begin the season on the disabled list, but it appears he's making progress.
Mar 27 - 1:18 PM

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said Friday that Alex Wilson (shoulder) "won't be ready" for the start of the season.

The writing had been on the wall for a while, as Wilson still hasn't pitched in a game this spring due to right shoulder soreness. It's unclear at this point how long he might be sidelined.
Mar 25 - 9:26 AM

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus conceded Tuesday that it's "getting a bit tight" for Alex Wilson (shoulder) to be ready for Opening Day.

Wilson has yet to pitch in a game this spring due to right shoulder soreness. He's feeling better now and made it through another bullpen session Monday with no issues, but eventually the Tigers could have to be realistic about where he stands. It's not the end of the world if he needs a few extra days.
Mar 22 - 10:10 AM

Alex Wilson (shoulder) threw another successful bullpen session Monday in Tigers camp.

The next step will be live batting practice and then Wilson should be ready to take the mound in a Grapefruit League game. It looks like he could be ready for Opening Day, but it's going to be tight time-wise.
Mar 21 - 12:16 PM

Alex Wilson (shoulder) threw a successful bullpen session on Saturday.

Wilson came away from the session feeling good and said that he expects to be ready for Grapefruit League action soon. Barring any further setbacks, it appears as though Wilson will be ready for Opening Day.
Mar 19 - 10:10 AM

Alex Wilson (shoulder) threw from a distance of 120 feet on Wednesday.

Wilson, who has been battling a sore shoulder, will do the same thing on Thursday. If all goes well, he'll throw a bullpen session on Saturday. He's running out of time to get ready for Opening Day, but the Tigers haven't ruled him out.

Mar 16 - 1:52 PM

Alex Wilson (shoulder) could throw a bullpen session as soon as Saturday.

Wilson has expanded playing catch to 120 feet. When asked Tuesday, Tigers manager Brad Ausmus wasn't sure whether Wilson would be ready for Opening Day. "If we have to start him on the DL, we'll deal with it," Ausmus said. "But right now, there's no plan to do that."
Mar 15 - 8:54 PM

Alex Wilson (shoulder) will extend his game of catch to 90 feet Sunday and Monday.

Wilson played catch from 60 feet Thursday and Friday before taking Saturday off. He should resume throwing off a mound soon if all goes well. The right-hander has battled a sore shoulder all camp and isn't a given to be ready for Opening Day.
Mar 13 - 11:55 AM

Alex Wilson (shoulder) played catch from 60 feet on Thursday.

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said that Wilson felt better the more he threw. The reliever will play catch again Friday. Wilson has been bothered by a sore right shoulder the last couple weeks, but an MRI didn't reveal any structural damage. It's unclear when he might be game-ready, however, so his readiness for Opening Day appears to be in question.
Mar 11 - 10:08 AM

An MRI on Alex Wilson's right shoulder did not reveal any structural damage.

Wilson was feeling shoulder tenderness in late February. The Tigers shut him down to see if the issue would resolve itself naturally, but when he played catch last week, he once again felt something. No structural damage was revealed on his MRI, but the 29-year-old right-hander will take a few more days off before he begins throwing again. At which point, his health will be reevaluated.
Mar 8 - 10:19 AM

Alex Wilson felt more soreness in his right shoulder after playing catch.

Wilson had been shut down for a few days with tenderness in the shoulder and now will be shut down again at least until Sunday. It doesn't appear at this point that he'll be sent for any tests, so for now this still looks like a minor concern. However, obviously the worry will be heightened the longer it drags on.
