Athletics optioned LHP Eric Surkamp to Triple-A Nashville.
Surkamp got lit up for six runs over 4 2/3 innings Sunday by the Blue Jays and will head to the minors having registered a 5.59 ERA and 1.91 WHIP in four starts for the A's. The lefty should get another shot later this summer, but he is not fantasy-relevant. Apr 25 - 2:49 PM

Eric Surkamp was pummeled for six runs across 4 2/3 frames in Sunday's loss to the Blue Jays.

A mediocre left-hander just doesn't stand a chance against all the big right-handed bats for the Jays. Surkamp permitted nine hits on the day and didn't do himself any favors by issuing four walks (although one of them was intentional). The southpaw has put up a 5.59 ERA and 1.91 WHIP over four starts for the A's and doesn't figure to last much longer in the rotation. For now he's lined up to start next weekend against the Astros.
Apr 24 - 4:06 PM

Eric Surkamp held the Yankees to two runs over 5 2/3 innings in Tuesday's 3-2 extra-innings victory.

Surkamp certainly wasn't great in this one, as he gave up seven hits on the night, walked three and struck out just three. The southpaw did enough to keep the Yankees at bay, though, and the A's offense eventually responded in the 11th inning to put the club ahead. Surkamp should get another opportunity in a tough matchup in Toronto on Sunday.
Apr 19 - 11:10 PM

Eric Surkamp struggled with his control in Wednesday's loss to the Angels, walking four over 4 2/3 innings.

Surkamp struck out just one while allowing two runs on five hits. RBI singles by Kole Calhoun in the third and fifth innings accounted for the runs that scored on Surkamp's watch. He has not pitched into the sixth inning in either of his two starts to this point. Jesse Hahn is an option to replace him if the A's grow impatient with the 28-year-old southpaw's lukewarm results. For now, Surkamp remains in the rotation. He will hit the road to do battle with the Yankees in his next scheduled start.
Apr 13 - 6:44 PM

Eric Surkamp will start on Wednesday versus the Angels.

Surkamp was unimpressive Friday, allowing two runs in 4 1/3 innings against the Mariners, but he'll get another shot. If Surkamp struggles again on Wednesday, the A's could turn to Jesse Hahn.
Apr 10 - 10:12 AM

Eric Surkamp allowed two runs in 4 1/3 innings versus the Mariners on Friday.

The A's picked Surkamp over Jesse Hahn for this one, and Surkamp proved somewhat effective, though he was inefficient. Surkamp threw seven innings in his final spring start, so he was equipped to go deeper tonight. However, it took him 81 pitches to get his 13 outs. Surkamp will probably remain in the rotation and start next week, but he's not very desirable in AL-only leagues.
Apr 9 - 1:32 AM

Athletics purchased the contract of LHP Eric Surkamp from Triple-A Nashville.

Surkamp will get a start on Friday against the Mariners with Felix Doubront (elbow) out and could stick around for a while if he does well. The left-hander held a 3.39 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 100/32 K/BB ratio across 114 innings at the Triple-A level last season.
Apr 8 - 1:22 PM

Eric Surkamp will start against the Mariners on Friday.

The A's have been doing a bit of juggling in their rotation to account for Sonny Gray missing his Opening Day start due to food poisoning. Surkamp is one of the beneficiaries. The 28-year-old southpaw has made seven major league starts in his career, though none since 2013. He signed a minor league contract with the A's in mid-December. Last season, Surkamp pitched to a 3.39 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 100/32 K/BB ratio across 114 innings between the Triple-A squads of the White Sox and Dodgers.
Apr 6 - 8:44 PM

Eric Surkamp threw seven scoreless innings, striking out seven, in a relief appearance against the Giants on Saturday.

Surkamp scattered two hits and a walk in relief of starter Felix Doubront, who left after one inning with forearm tightness. The good showing likely wasn't enough to save Surkamp from being sent to Triple-A, but it may have gained him some fans in the front office should the A's need an arm during the season. Surkamp signed a minor league contract with the club this past offseason.
Apr 2 - 6:35 PM

Athletics signed LHP Eric Surkamp to a minor league contract.

The 28-year-old southpaw split the 2015 campaign between the White Sox and Dodgers organization, registering a 3.39 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 100/32 K/BB ratio over 114 innings at Triple-A. With the ability to start and work in relief, he's a nice depth signing for the A's.

Dodgers sent LHP Eric Surkamp outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

He cleared waivers after being designated for assignment earlier this week. The White Sox traded Surkamp to Los Angeles on May 22. He's made just one appearance for the Dodgers, going 3 1/3 innings July 6 against the Phillies.

Dodgers designated LHP Eric Surkamp for assignment.

It's been a rough few days for Surkamp, who was knocked around in Monday's game before being sent back down to the minors on Tuesday. The Dodgers needed a roster spot for Chin-Hui Tsao, precluding Surkamp's designation. He's likely to pass through waivers.

Dodgers optioned LHP Eric Surkamp to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Sukamp was roughed up for four runs over 3 1/3 innings in a relief appearance Monday. He's replaced in the bullpen by Ian Thomas.
Tue, Jul 7, 2015 06:34:00 PM

Dodgers purchased the contract of LHP Eric Surkamp from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Surkamp had been expected to get a spot start Monday, but instead he's expected to be the first out of the bullpen. He seems likely to be designated for assignment after the game.

Eric Surkamp was scratched from his scheduled start at Triple-A Oklahoma City and is likely to start for the Dodgers on Monday.

With Carlos Frias placed on the disabled list, the Dodgers are forced to scramble to fill his place in the starting rotation. The 27-year-old Surkamp has posted a 3.77 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 56/20 K/BB ratio over 59 2/3 innings at Triple-A this season.
