White Sox placed LHP Eric Surkamp on the 15-day disabled list.

Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago reports that the White Sox are looking to deal Eric Surkamp in order to create room on the 40-man roster.

The White Sox are facing a roster crunch with several players not on the 40-man roster likely to head north with the big league club. With Zach Duke and Dan Jennings functioning as left-handed arms out of the bullpen, Surkamp has become expendable. With plenty of teams around the league on the lookout for bullpen help, the White Sox shouldn't have difficulty flipping him.

The move was made in order to clear room on the 40-man roster for the arrival of Michael Morse. Eric Surkamp was greeted rudely in his first start in the majors this season, getting rocked for seven runs over 2 2/3 innings in a loss to the Reds.

He gave up nine hits, including two homers, and failed to strike out a batter. In fairness to Surkamp, he had just 36 minor league innings under his belt since Tommy John surgery and probably wasn't ready for a call to the majors. He'll be sent back down.
