White Sox claimed LHP Eric Surkamp off waivers from the Giants.

Surkamp made just one appearance in 2013 with the big-league Giants and it was a disaster. But the 26-year-old left-handed starter has 2.84 career ERA and 541 strikeouts in 484 2/3 minor league innings and could finally get an extended look in Chicago.

Giants designated LHP Eric Surkamp for assignment.

The move was made in order to clear room on the 40-man roster for the arrival of Michael Morse. Surkamp, 26, hasn't fared well in his seven starts at the big league level, but he boasts a career 2.84 ERA with 541 strikeouts over 484 2/3 minor league frames. Someone figures to scoop him up on waivers.

Eric Surkamp was greeted rudely in his first start in the majors this season, getting rocked for seven runs over 2 2/3 innings in a loss to the Reds.

He gave up nine hits, including two homers, and failed to strike out a batter. In fairness to Surkamp, he had just 36 minor league innings under his belt since Tommy John surgery and probably wasn't ready for a call to the majors. He'll be sent back down.

Eric Surkamp will be recalled to start one of the games of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Reds.

Surkamp has missed most of this season while coming back from Tommy John surgery. He's pitched pretty well since returning last month, though, posting a 4.00 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 33/12 K/BB ratio over 36 innings. He shouldn't be used in fantasy leagues.

Giants activated LHP Eric Surkamp from the 60-day disabled list; optioned him to Triple-A Fresno.

Surkamp, making his way back from Tommy John surgery, posted a 2.93 ERA and a 17/3 K/BB ratio in 15 1/3 innings over five rehab starts with High-A San Jose. He'll serve as rotation depth at Triple-A for now and could be an option for a call-up during the second half.

Eric Surkamp (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A San Jose on Wednesday.

Surkamp, who is making his way back from Tommy John surgery, is expected to spend three weeks in the San Jose rotation. The left-hander could be an option for the Giants in a month or so.

Eric Surkamp (elbow) will make a start in extended spring training on Saturday.

Surkamp is working his way back from Tommy John surgery, which is a shame because he'd probably be in the rotation following Ryan Vogelsong's (hand) injury. As it is, Vogelsong will likely be ready before him.

Giants transferred LHP Eric Surkamp from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move is being made in order to clear 40-man roster space for Mike Kickham. Surkamp is hoping to make an impact by the second half after coming back from Tommy John surgery.

Eric Surkamp (elbow) has been playing long-toss and will be ready to throw a bullpen session soon.

Coming back from Tommy John surgery, Surkamp's recovery is going as scheduled. He remains on track to appear in games by June.

Giants placed LHP Eric Surkamp on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 22, with a strained left elbow tendon.

Surkamp is coming back from July Tommy John surgery. If he can avoid setbacks, he should be ready to return in the second half of the season.

Eric Surkamp (elbow) began throwing last month and is on track to return to games in July.

Surkamp, 25, is coming back from July Tommy John surgery. Though he should be physically ready by the second half, he can't be counted on for much of a contribution this season.

Eric Surkamp underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery Wednesday.

Surkamp was originally placed on the disabled list during spring training with what was termed as a flexor tendon strain in his throwing elbow. The 25-year-old southpaw attempted to ramp up his throwing program, but the discomfort persisted. He'll now be sidelined until the second half of 2013.

Giants transferred LHP Eric Surkamp from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL.

This was done to make room for Brad Penny on the 40-man roster. Surkamp is currently shut down after suffering a flexor tendon strain in his throwing elbow at the end of spring training. He's been slow to make progress and his ability to return this season is still uncertain.
