They also reassigned Brian Moran, Jonathan Arias and D.J. Mitchell to minor league camp. Ruffin struggled in Cactus League play, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks over three innings. Despite his struggles last year at Triple-A (5.99 ERA), he remains an intriguing bullpen arm.

Mariners optioned RHP Chance Ruffin to Triple-A Tacoma.

Ruffin was a little shaky this spring, allowing six runs on nine hits over six innings while striking out three and walking three. Still, the 23-year-old right-hander should be a big part of the Mariners' bullpen before long.

Mariners acquired RHP Chance Ruffin from the Tigers to complete last month's Doug Fister trade.

Ruffin was a supplemental first-round pick last June and didn't sign with the Tigers until mid-August, so he was a "player to be named later" until now. The 22-year-old right-hander had a cup of coffee with the Tigers last month and has an impressive 2.03 ERA and 60 strikeouts over 48 2/3 innings in the minor leagues. He will join the Mariners' bullpen immediately.

According to Jason A. Churchill of Prospect Insider, the Mariners will acquire right-hander Chance Ruffin from the Tigers as the player to be named later in the Doug Fister trade.

The assumption was that the Mariners would either acquire Ruffin or left-hander Drew Smyly to complete the deal. Since Ruffin was selected in the 2010 First-Year Player Draft, he cannot be a part of any trade until August 15. The 22-year-old right-hander has a 2.00 ERA over 40 relief appearances in the minors, averaging 11.4 K/9 and 4.2 BB/9. He made his major league debut last month and projects as a set-up man or closer in the long-term.

Tigers recalled RHP Chance Ruffin from Triple-A Toledo.

Ruffin was thrown into the fire immediately on Monday night against the White Sox and gave up three hits (including a pair of solo homers) over 1 2/3 innings. The 2010 supplemental first-round pick had a 2.09 ERA and 55/20 K/BB ratio over 43 innings between Double-A Erie and Triple-A Toledo. Shaky debut aside, he should help the Tigers' bullpen.

According to beat writer Chris Iott, the Tigers plan to call up 2010 supplemental first-round pick RHP Chance Ruffin.

The former University of Texas star has certainly earned the promotion, posting a 2.09 ERA and 11.5 K/9 over 39 games across Double-A and Triple-A. He has the kind of stuff and mentality that a team looks for in a future closer. RHP Lester Oliveros is expected to be demoted to make room on the 25-man roster.

Ruffin reportedly signed for a bonus of $1.15 million. The 21-year-old right-hander was selected out of Texas with the No. 48 pick in June's draft. The son of former major league pitcher Bruce Ruffin, Chance projects best as a reliever in the big leagues.
