Phillies prospect catcher Sebastian Valle suffered a small fracture on his right ring finger.
The injury didn't stop Valle from participating in drills Tuesday, so it doesn't sound like a major concern. The 22-year-old batted .253/.271/.428 with 17 home runs and a .699 OPS between Double- and Triple-A last season and was ranked as the organization's No. 14 prospect by Baseball America over the winter. Valle batted just .253/.271/.428 but slugged 17 homers between Double- and Triple-A this season. The Phillies are high on the 22-year-old's future.

Valle is a nice prospect but is coming off an injury-shortened 2011 season, appearing in just 91 games while batting .284/.312/.394 with five homers for High-A Clearwater. He needs at least another full year in the minors.

Phillies purchased the contract of C Sebastian Valle from High-A Clearwater.

It's a move made in order to protect him from the Rule 5 draft. The team's best position player prospect, Valle had an injury-plagued 2011 season, appearing in just 91 games while batting .284/.312/.394 with five homers for Clearwater. He probably would have made it up to Double-A if not for injuries and could conceivably make it up to Triple-A this season.
