Chris Owings (finger) will not be on the Diamondbacks' roster for the NL Wild Card Game.
Owings landed on the 60-day disabled list July 31 with a fractured right middle finger and is still rehabbing. If the Diamondbacks advance to the National League Division Series, there is a possibility Owings could be a participant. He has been playing in instructional league games at the club's spring training complex. Oct 4 - 11:01 AM

Chris Owings (finger) could come off the disabled list for the Diamondbacks series against Kansas City at the end of the month.

Owings was placed on the 60-day disabled list with a fractured right middle finger on July 31. He was having a solid -- if unspectacular -- offensive season before the injury, with 12 homers and 12 stolen bases along with a .741 OPS. Ketel Marte has performed admirably as the everyday shortstop, so it will be interesting to see how much playing time Owings gets if/when he comes back.

Diamondbacks placed INF Chris Owings on the 60-day disabled list with a fractured right middle finger.

Owings suffered the injury when he was hit on the hand by a pitch during Sunday's game. He was set to undergo surgery on Monday, with the expectation that he'll miss eight weeks. The move essentially rules him out through the end of September. It's a real shame, as Owings has enjoyed a breakout year. Ketel Marte should see most of the playing time at shortstop once he returns from the bereavement list, but the newly-acquired Adam Rosales will fill in for now.
Jul 31 - 7:51 PM

Diamondbacks' manager Torey Lovullo announced that Chris Owings suffered a fractured middle finer when he was hit by a pitch during Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

That will mean a trip to the disabled list for the Diamondbacks' shortstop, though how long he'll be sidelined remains unclear. Owings will meet with a hand specialist back in Phoenix. Ketel Marte is the most likely candidate to fill-in during his absence.
Jul 30 - 5:43 PM

Chris Owings departed Sunday's game versus the Cardinals after being hit on the hand by a pitch.

Owings was attempting to bunt and was unable to get out of the way from a Lance Lynn fastball. He'll be sent for X-rays and the Diamondbacks should have an update before long.
Jul 30 - 2:54 PM

Chris Owings is not in the Diamondbacks' lineup Saturday against the Cardinals.

He's just getting a maintenance day. Ketel Marte is in at shortstop and batting seventh against Cardinals right-hander Mike Leake. Owings has hit a miserable .137 since the All-Star break after batting .290 in the first half and could probably use a day to clear his head.
Jul 29 - 4:21 PM

Chris Owings went 1-for-4 with a double in Friday’s loss to the Cardinals.

Owings hit a two-out double in the fifth, but the Diamondbacks were unable to capitalize against Michael Wacha. The 25-year-old had just one hit in his last 30 at-bats coming into Friday’s action. His batting average was at .291 on July 18, but he’s now at .269 for the year.
Jul 29 - 1:16 AM

Chris Owings finished 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Tuesday's game against the Braves.

Owings delivered an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning to snap an ugly 23 at-bat hitless skid. It was just his second RBI over the past 17 games, as he has been ice-cold in the blazing hot desert. Perhaps the extra-base hit and RBI will give him a little confidence heading into Wednesday's homestand finale.
Jul 26 - 2:23 AM

Chris Owings was hitless across four at-bats with a strikeout on Saturday against the Reds.

Owings has collected just four hits across 27 at-bats (.148) in the month of July to drop his average 13 points. He is still slashing a respectable .284/.318/.480 through 306 at-bats, so consider this cool spell an anomaly.
Jul 9 - 4:39 AM

Chris Owings delivered a pair of homers to give the Diamondbacks two of their three runs Friday.

Owings might not be doing as much running as we'd like to see, but he's up to 11 homers in 279 at-bats after entering the season with 15 in 1,317 career at-bats. He should be a top-10 shortstop the rest of the way.
Jul 1 - 1:26 AM

Chris Owings doubled twice and stole a base Wednesday against the Cardinals.

Owings's average has dipped, but he's still been pretty solid offensively. What's been really disappointing, though, is the lack of steals. He swiped his eighth base of the season on May 2. Tonight's steal was just his third (in four attempts) in 47 games since. Owings is an outstanding percentage basestealer, having gone 57-for-66 in his career. It'd be nice to see him be a little more aggressive there.
Jun 29 - 1:11 AM

Chris Owings is absent from the Diamondbacks' lineup Tuesday.

It looks to be a routine day off. Nick Ahmed is at shortstop.
Jun 27 - 6:30 PM

Chris Owings slugged his ninth homer Thursday in the Diamondbacks' 10-3 rout of Colorado.

Owings staked the D’Backs to a 5-1 lead by crushing a three-run blast off Antonio Senzatela in the third inning. That was Owings’ only hit of the afternoon. Owings has cooled off this month (.213 AVG in June) but is still sporting an eight-game hitting streak. He’s already set a career-high in homers and needs just six RBI to match last year’s total of 49.
Jun 22 - 6:43 PM

Chris Owings blasted a solo home run as the Diamondbacks topped the Phillies on Sunday.

Owings tagged Phillies' starter Ben Lively for the solo shot in the first inning that gave the Diamondbacks an early 3-0 lead. It was his lone hit in four at-bats on the afternoon. He has been an important cog in the Diamondbacks' lineup this season, slashing .292/.327/.465 with eight homers and 39 RBI.
Jun 18 - 6:34 PM

Chris Owings chipped in with a pair of hits Thursday in the Diamondbacks’ victory over the Padres.

What a series for the Diamondbacks, who outscored San Diego 32-9 during a three-game sweep. Owings paced the D’Backs with a pair of doubles while scoring his only run of the afternoon on a first-inning single by Daniel Descalso. A light hitter before this year, Owings has impressed this season with seven homers, 36 RBI, nine steals and a .299 average over 214 at-bats.
