Chris Owings went 3-for-5 with three RBI against the Cardinals on Monday.
Socrates Brito hasn't shown much to date, opening the door for Owings to get more time in center. Owings isn't really tearing it up either, but he does have the solid .283 average (though just a .673 OPS) and he's 4-for-4 stealing bases. Apr 26 - 1:57 AM

Chris Owings will start in center field Monday against the Giants.

Owings will get the first crack in center field with Socrates Brito in the minors. The 24-year-old is batting .200 (6-for-30) with zero extra-base hits through 11 games this season, so the leash might not be very long. He's batting eighth Monday while Jake Lamb will bat second.
Apr 18 - 5:49 PM

Chris Owings went 0-for-3 on Wednesday and has a .200/.200/.200 line after 25 at-bats.

It's right back to 2015 form for Owings after his big spring. He'll be in there against a most lefties, but he's not going to see much more action against righties until he shows he deserves it.
Apr 14 - 1:29 AM

Chris Owings is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Dodgers.

Owings made the start at shortstop on Sunday, but Nick Ahmed is back in the lineup and batting ninth. Socrates Brito has now started three out of the last four games in center field.
Apr 12 - 12:51 PM

Chris Owings will draw another start in center field Thursday against the Cubs.

It's his third start there in four games. Socrates Brito was expected to get most of the playing time in center field but that hasn't been the case early on. Manager Chip Hale said he likes Owings' matchup against John Lackey, which is a little misleading since he's never faced him before. Owings is only a .244 career hitter but he does have some speed (16 steals last year). A.J. Pollock (fractured elbow) isn't coming back anytime soon, so expect Hale to do plenty of mixing and matching in center field.
Apr 7 - 6:42 PM

Chris Owings will bat second and start in center field for Monday's season opener against the Rockies.

Socrates Brito could also be in the mix, but Owings is getting the first chance to fill in with A.J. Pollock sidelined due to an elbow fracture. He could carve out some mixed league value if he sticks in the No. 2 spot. The full D'Backs lineup vs. Jorge De La Rosa: Jean Segura 2B, Owings CF, Paul Goldschmidt 1B, Welington Castillo C, David Peralta RF, Yasmany Tomas LF, Jake Lamb 3B, Zack Greinke P, Nick Ahmed SS.
Apr 4 - 4:46 PM

Chris Owings went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI as the Diamondbacks closed Cactus League play with a 4-2 win over the Royals on Saturday.

In his first start in center field -- the position he's expected to man on Opening Day in the wake of A.J. Pollock's elbow injury -- Owings hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning to give the D'backs the victory. He leaves spring with a .368 average, three home runs and 13 RBI and has some mixed league juice if, like he did Saturday, he bats second in a still-potent Diamondbacks lineup.
Apr 2 - 6:14 PM

Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said Saturday that Chris Owings is likely to start in center field on Opening Day.

It's unclear if Owings will be given a chance to run with the job, or if Socrates Brito will be in the mix for starts there as well. The Diamondbacks are forced to alter their plans just one day before the start of the regular season due to the injury to A.J. Pollock.
Apr 2 - 1:24 PM

Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said Friday that he plans to rotate Chris Owings, Nick Ahmed and Jean Segura between shortstop and second base.

Hale added that Segura will play more at second base than shortstop, which could indicate Ahmed might be in line for more playing time than Owings since he's the strongest of the three defensively at shortstop. However, Hale contends that "they'll all get their at-bats." Segura should play most every day, but it's a less than ideal situation for Owings, who has drawn some sleeper appeal this spring. Hale did say that Owings could play some at third base if Brandon Drury doesn't make the team, presumably when the club wants to sit Jake Lamb against a tough lefty.
Apr 1 - 5:13 PM

Chris Owings went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a triple in Wednesday's win over the Giants.

Owings teed off on a Matt Cain offering in the first inning, belting his first home run of the spring. He would later triple, again off Cain. The 24-year-old has turned in a blistering spring with the bat on the whole and is now 14-for-41 (.356). Last season, Owings managed a quiet .227/.264/.322 triple-slash with four homers and 16 steals over 147 games. Because he raked in the minors, Owings makes for an easy call of sleeper, even if his major league track record to this point has been somewhat checkered.
Mar 23 - 8:17 PM

Chris Owings went 2-for-2 with an RBI single Tuesday in the Diamondbacks' win over the University of Arizona.

The teams only played six-and-a-half innings, yet the Diamondbacks were able to pour in 12 runs on 15 hits. Owings will be looking to break out in 2016 after batting just .227/.264/.322 with four home runs and 16 stolen bases in 147 games last season. The young second baseman was an offensive force at the Triple-A level. There is sneaky fantasy upside here.
Mar 1 - 7:59 PM

Chris Owings has indicated that his left shoulder is finally feeling fully healthy for the first time since surgery in October of 2014.

Owings was told when he had the operation that he would be cleared to play the following season but might not return to full strength for 12 months. He had to alter the follow-through on his swing in order to reduce stress on the shoulder, and it showed in his numbers with a lowly .587 OPS. A .324/.352/.468 hitter at Triple-A who is still just 24, Owings could be in line for a nice bounce-back season in 2016.
Jan 29 - 9:16 AM

Chris Owings is not in the Diamondbacks starting lineup on Friday.

It's nothing more than a routine day off for the young infielder. Phil Gosselin will start in his place at second base and bat second for the D'Backs against Casey Kelly and the Padres on Friday.

Chris Owings stole his 15th base of the season in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader the Rockies.

Owings went 1-for-3 and scored a run to go along with the theft. The 15 steals are easily a career high for the 24-year-old, who is hitting just .239/.269/.340 overall.
Wed, Sep 2, 2015 01:40:00 AM

Chris Owings went 3-for-4 with a homer and a double as the Diamondbacks came back to beat the Reds 5-4 on Thursday.

Owings took John Lamb deep for his first homer off a lefty this season. Although he's a right-handed hitter, he came into the night with a horrific .132/.1945/.176 line and 31 strikeouts in 91 at-bats versus southpaws. That's one of the things he needs to improve upon down the stretch if he wants to be penciled in as a regular next year.
