Chris Owings (shoulder) will be shut down for three days after a visit with the Diamondbacks' team doctor on Friday.
Owings' bruised left shoulder is getting better but has come along more slowly than expected. "We're just trying to get him kind of over the hump," manager Kirk Gibson said. "He's getting close." Owings is likely to remain out for the remainder of this month. Jul 20 - 9:14 AM

Chris Owings (shoulder) could be a couple weeks away from a return.

Owings is eligible to be activated now, but his bruised left shoulder is healing more slowly than expected. The shortstop has taken some dry swings but has yet to face live pitching since being placed on the disabled list. He's hitting .277/.313/.458 with six homers, 21 RBI and seven steals across 72 games for the D'Backs this season.
Jul 17 - 8:11 PM

Chris Owings (shoulder) has yet to resume hitting.

Owings' bruised left shoulder is still not feeling 100 percent, and he won't be cleared to swing a bat until it gets there. Obviously it's looking like he won't be ready to return from the disabled list later this week when he's first eligible.
Jul 7 - 7:20 PM

Chris Owings has a left shoulder bruise.

That's good news for the Diamondbacks, who were worried it might be something more serious. Owings was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday morning. The young shortstop should be ready to return by mid-July.
Jul 1 - 5:25 PM

Diamondbacks placed SS Chris Owings on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 26, with a sore left shoulder.

Owings is set to have his shoulder examined by the team doctor on Monday, but the club isn't waiting to put him on the disabled list. More will obviously be known about a potential timetable after he's examined. Nick Ahmed has replaced Owings on the roster and should share time at shortstop with Didi Gregorius.
Jun 29 - 12:56 PM

Chris Owings (shoulder) is not in the Diamondbacks' lineup Saturday against the Padres.

Owings is expected to sit out Sunday as well because of lingering discomfort in his left shoulder. The young shortstop is set to see a doctor in Phoenix on Monday.
Jun 28 - 8:42 PM

Chris Owings is being considered day-to-day after a sore shoulder forced him to be scratched from the Diamondbacks starting lineup on Friday.

The good news is that the injury doesn't appear serious enough to warrant a trip to the disabled list. Look for Didi Gregorius to hold down the fort for another day or two until the rookie shortstop is ready to return.
Jun 27 - 9:13 PM

Chris Owings has been scratched from the Diamondbacks starting lineup for Friday's contest against the Padres.

No word yet on the reason behind the late scratch, but the D'Backs should provide an update shortly. Didi Gregorius will start in his place.
Jun 27 - 7:58 PM

Chris Owings popped out as a pinch-hitter in Tuesday's win over the Indians.

Owings has missed the last few games with ankle and shoulder issues, but neither are serious concerns. There's a good chance he'll be back in the lineup Wednesday.
Jun 25 - 6:14 AM

Chris Owings is not in Tuesday's lineup due to a shoulder issue.

Owings missed a couple games over the weekend with what the D'Backs said was an ankle injury, but apparently his shoulder is now the issue. It doesn't appear to be a long-term concern, so consider the shortstop day-to-day.
Jun 24 - 7:14 PM

Chris Owings (ankle) is not in the Diamondbacks' starting lineup on Tuesday night versus the Indians.

Owings sat out Saturday and Sunday with a left ankle issue, and still isn't ready after Monday's team off day. Didi Gregorius is starting at shortstop on Tuesday.
Jun 24 - 5:52 PM

Chris Owings is not in the Diamondbacks' lineup Sunday due to an ankle issue.

It's not clear when Owings was injured, but the good news is that he expects to be back in the lineup Tuesday after Monday's off day. Didi Gregorius is at shortstop Sunday.
Jun 22 - 2:11 PM

Chris Owings went 3-for-4 with a double, triple, RBI and run scored in Wednesday's 4-3 victory over the Brewers.

Arizona only took tonight's game in the three-game series, but Owings was hardly to blame, going 6-for-11 (.545) with three extra-base hits against Milwaukee pitching. The 22-year-old is easily hitting well enough to fend off Didi Gregorius at shortstop, slashing .283/.321/.465 with six homers and 20 RBI over 68 games.
Jun 19 - 12:35 AM

Chris Owings went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's loss to the Astros.

Owings contributed to his club's slow climb back into the ballgame, as his seventh-inning homer off of Scott Feldman cut the Astros' lead to 4-3. It was his sixth blast of the season. Owings has slumped recently, and he's now slashing .269/.308/.442 with 19 RBI and six stolen bases.
Jun 13 - 12:01 AM

Chris Owings is not in Monday's lineup against the Astros.

Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson has used a rotation between shortstop and second base since Didi Gregorius has come up from the minors, so Owings has sat in four out of the last eight games. It's a frustrating development for fantasy owners.
