Chris Owings was scratched from the Diamondbacks starting lineup on Friday due to a sore shoulder.

Owings initially injured his shoulder on a play at home plate last Friday, and it has bothered him off and on since then. Didi Gregorius will start in his place at shortstop against the Cardinals on Friday.

Chris Owings went 2-for-5 with an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base in Sunday's win over the Padres.

Owings had an RBI single and a run scored in the fifth inning. He also stole his eighth base in the inning. Since coming back from a left shoulder injury, the 23-year-old has struggled, going 9-for-43 (.209) with no extra-base hits. The injury derailed what was a decent rookie campaign.
Sep 14 - 10:16 PM

Chris Owings went 2-for-5 as the D'Backs handed the Padres a 5-1 loss on Thursday.

Owings made his second start since being activated from the disabled list after missing two months with a shoulder injury. The shortstop notched hits in both. Owings has a .278/.312/.452 slash line with six home runs, 22 RBI, and seven stolen bases in 265 plate appearances.
Sep 5 - 12:21 AM

In his first start since returning from the disabled list, Chris Owings went 1-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI via sacrifice fly in Wednesday's 6-1 triumph over San Diego.

Owings grounded out to shortstop as a pinch-hitter in the eighth inning of Tuesday's game, his first action since missing over two months with a left shoulder injury. On Wednesday, skipper Kirk Gibson penciled him in at second base -- Arizona is keen to continue evaluating (or showcasing) Didi Gregorius through the end of the campaign -- and the No. 2 hole. The Snakes will labor to keep Owings, their prized rookie, in the everyday lineup -- perhaps logging time at both second and short -- assuming his shoulder holds up. Owings is slashing .276/.310/.453 through 74 games.
Sep 4 - 12:58 AM

Diamondbacks activated INF Chris Owings from the 15-day disabled list.

Owings wound up missing over two months with a left shoulder injury that was thought to be fairly minor at first. He probably won't be an everyday player for the Diamondbacks down the stretch as they try to get a few different players exposure on the infield.
Sep 2 - 5:43 PM

Chris Owings is expected to rejoin the Diamondbacks when rosters expand on Monday.

Owings is currently on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Reno, where he's starting at second base. He's expected to share time in the middle infield with Didi Gregorius upon his return. A.J. Pollock and Daniel Hudson also look to be on track to join the Diamondbacks on Monday.
Aug 29 - 7:22 PM

Chris Owings (shoulder) is starting at second base for Triple-A Reno on Saturday night.

The Diamondbacks might try to make Owings a little more versatile down the stretch this season as they consider their roster options for the 2015 campaign. He has been on the shelf since June 26 with a left shoulder injury and probably won't be activated for another week. Owings played six innings at shortstop for Reno on Friday.
Aug 23 - 10:22 PM

Chris Owings (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with the Arizona League Diamondbacks on Sunday.

Owings will play four games with the rookie-level club before moving to Triple-A Reno on Friday. The D'Backs will give the shortstop a couple weeks' worth of rehab at-bats before activating him. Owings has been out since late June with a slightly dislocated left shoulder. "I think Owings will probably (return in) September," manager Kirk Gibson said. "He's been out a long time. We're going to have him play quite a bit."
Aug 17 - 9:37 AM

Chris Owings (shoulder) will face live pitching on Friday.

It will be the first time he's done so since going down with a slight dislocation of his left shoulder in late June. There's no timetable for Owings' return, but he's finally making real progress. "We're moving as fast we can," Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said. "We can't rush it."
Aug 13 - 9:10 AM

Chris Owings (shoulder) took 30 swings in an indoor batting cage on Saturday and felt good.

It's another step in the right direction for the young shortstop, who has been out since late June with a slight dislocation of his left shoulder. Owings is expected to begin playing in simulated games late next week and then a rehab assignment will follow. He's likely to rejoin the Diamondbacks around late August.
Aug 9 - 5:34 PM

Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said that Chris Owings (shoulder) "was letting it go... very aggressively" while hitting 30-35 pitches off a tee Thursday.

Owings still hasn't taken batting practice and has no timetable to return, but real progress appears to finally being made. "I'm starting to feel a lot better," Owings said. "It's just been a slow process. It's not been fun. But … time just hasn't been on our side. So I just have to wait it out."
Aug 7 - 10:03 PM

Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said Monday that Chris Owings (shoulder) has yet to take live batting practice.

Owings landed on the disabled list almost exactly one month ago with a bruised left shoulder and his recovery is taking a bit longer than originally expected. Until he starts hitting without discomfort, it's difficult to pinpoint a timetable for his return.
Jul 28 - 5:45 PM

Chris Owings (shoulder) will be shut down for three days after a visit with the Diamondbacks' team doctor on Friday.

Owings' bruised left shoulder is getting better but has come along more slowly than expected. "We're just trying to get him kind of over the hump," manager Kirk Gibson said. "He's getting close." Owings is likely to remain out for the remainder of this month.
Jul 20 - 9:14 AM

Chris Owings (shoulder) could be a couple weeks away from a return.

Owings is eligible to be activated now, but his bruised left shoulder is healing more slowly than expected. The shortstop has taken some dry swings but has yet to face live pitching since being placed on the disabled list. He's hitting .277/.313/.458 with six homers, 21 RBI and seven steals across 72 games for the D'Backs this season.
