Chris Owings stole his 15th base of the season in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader the Rockies.

Owings went 1-for-3 and scored a run to go along with the theft. The 15 steals are easily a career high for the 24-year-old, who is hitting just .239/.269/.340 overall.
Sep 2 - 1:40 AM

Chris Owings went 3-for-4 with a homer and a double as the Diamondbacks came back to beat the Reds 5-4 on Thursday.

Owings took John Lamb deep for his first homer off a lefty this season. Although he's a right-handed hitter, he came into the night with a horrific .132/.1945/.176 line and 31 strikeouts in 91 at-bats versus southpaws. That's one of the things he needs to improve upon down the stretch if he wants to be penciled in as a regular next year.
Aug 20 - 11:21 PM

Chris Owings did everything in twos on Tuesday, finishing 2-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored in a win over the Phillies.

Owings got the party started with a two-run double in the second inning, the first runs of an 11-run outburst. Owings would double and score again later in the inning. The infielder is batting just .231/.260/.329 on the year.
Aug 12 - 2:03 AM

Chris Owings went 1-for-3 with a two-run double in Sunday's win over the Giants.

Owings' double off of Chris Heston in the fifth inning scored two runs and pushed the Diamondback lead to 3-0. They would tack on one more run to win 4-0. The double was Owings' eighth of the season and the two RBI brought his season total to 17. He's shown flashes of his potential, but to this point, the 23-year-old is hitting just .238/.257/.325.
Jun 14 - 7:38 PM

Chris Owings is not in the Diamondbacks' lineup Sunday.

It's just a day of rest. Cliff Pennington is at second base Sunday in Owings' place.
May 10 - 12:56 PM

Chris Owings is not in the Diamondbacks' lineup Monday.

It appears to simply be a day off. Aaron Hill is at second base in Owings' place.
May 4 - 4:59 PM

Chris Owings went 0-for-4 as the Diamondbacks' No. 2 hitter Friday night.

The Diamondbacks knew they were carrying two offensive zeroes in Tuffy Gosewisch and Nick Ahmed; they can hardly afford for Owings to be a third. However, here he is with a .215 average and a 24/2 K/BB ratio through 79 at-bats. He needs to improve quickly or risk losing his job to Aaron Hill.
May 2 - 2:26 AM

Chris Owings hit a solo home run and an RBI triple in Wednesday's win over the Rangers.

Both the home run and triple were his first of the season. He hit the solo dinger off of Rangers starter Yovani Gallardo in the fourth inning and followed it up with an eighth inning three-bagger to deep center off Logan Verrett. Owings finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. The 23-year-old needed a game like Wednesday's, as he had just nine hits in 46 at-bats coming into the contest. Owings has struggled early, but he remains a hitter with a nice blend of power and speed. Like most youngsters, he'll see his ups and downs.
Apr 23 - 1:27 AM

Chris Owings went 1-for-3 and swiped his fifth base of the Cactus League season as the Diamondbacks topped the Cubs 6-1 on Friday.

Owings was named as the team's starting second baseman on Friday, which will open up shortstop for Nick Ahmed and force Aaron Hill into a reserve role. The speed this spring has been an encouraging sign out of Owings who managed to steal just eight bases in nine attempts a season ago.
Apr 4 - 1:13 AM

Chris Owings went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple as the Diamondbacks topped the Indians 3-2 in Cactus League action.

Even with the two-hit attack though, Owings is hitting just .222 (6-for-27) with no homers and five RBI on the spring, and could be in danger of losing his job to Nick Ahmed. The 23-year-old possesses an intriguing blend of power and speed, but will have to remain on the field to carve out mixed league value this season.
Mar 27 - 7:03 PM

Chris Owings (shoulder) played in a "B" game on Thursday.

It was his first game action this spring. Working his way back from surgery to repair the posterior labrum in his left (non-throwing) shoulder, Owings will play in his first official Cactus League contest on Saturday. "It was good to get out there and play the game and not hesitate," Owings said. "Take full swings and get some ground balls. Slide at home. Those are all things that I've got to do for the first time, get it out of the way and then do it all over again tomorrow."
Mar 12 - 7:20 PM

Chris Owings (shoulder) could make his Cactus League debut as soon as next weekend.

The Diamondbacks are bringing Owings along slowly as he works his way back from surgery to repair the posterior labrum in his left (non-throwing) shoulder. His rehab has gone well, though, and the young infielder still has plenty of time to get ready for Opening Day.
Mar 8 - 3:21 PM

Chris Owings (shoulder) took batting practice for the first time of the spring on Friday without any issues.

He's in the process of recovering from October surgery to repair the posterior labrum in his left shoulder. Owings is expected to miss the team's first 8-10 Cactus League contests but barring any setbacks should have no problem getting enough work in to be ready for Opening Day.

Mar 6 - 9:49 PM

Chris Owings (shoulder) is scheduled to take live batting practice Friday for the first time this spring.

Owings has already been ruled out for the Diamondbacks' first 8-10 spring games, but he should be nearing Cactus League action by the end of next week. The young shortstop underwent surgery in October to repair the posterior labrum in his left (non-throwing) shoulder. He'll be looking to take a step forward in 2015 after batting just .261/.300/.406 in 91 games last season.
