Chris Owings went 2-for-3 with a two-run triple as the Diamondbacks topped the Athletics 3-2 on Friday in Cactus League action.
Owings, who made the start in right field, is now batting .371 (13-for-35) with a 1.034 OPS this spring. He’s probably the leader for the starting shortstop job, but his versatility gives the Diamondbacks options. His speed and multi-position eligibility should help in mixed fantasy leagues this year. Chris Owings went 2-for-2 with two RBI off the bench in Tuesday's 12-0 Cactus League rout of the Rangers.

Owings entered to play right field in the fifth inning and singled in his first at-bat before slugging a two-run homer off Jose Leclerc in the eighth. Owings is expected to serve as the Diamondbacks' primary shortstop in 2017, but he'll continue to see playing time all around the field this spring.

Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen has told Chris Owings that he'll see time in the corner outfield during spring training.

Owings filled in in center field last year while A.J. Pollock was hurt, providing the club with valuable versatility. Being able to handle either corner outfield spot defensively would only add to his value. Look for Owings to find himself in the lineup close to everyday, spelling players around the diamond that need a rest.

Diamondbacks and INF Chris Owings avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2.3 million contract.

It's a nice salary bump for Owings, who was arbitration-eligible for the first time. He batted .277/.315/.416 with five homers and 21 steals for the D'Backs last season.

Chris Owings went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two steals in Wednesday's rain-shortened win over the Nationals.

Owings and leadoff hitter Jean Segura combined to collect five of the Diamondbacks' eight hits on the watery evening. The five-inning game was called following a long delay. With the two steals, Owings has swiped an even 20 on the season. That mark tops the career-best 18 that he notched in 2015.

Chris Owings went 4-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in a win over the Rockies on Saturday.

All four hits were singles. He singled to drive in a run in the second inning, and scored a run on a groundout by the pitcher in the sixth inning. He missed most of June and July due to a disabled list stint and has been mildly productive when healthy. He has a .285 batting average with just two home runs and 33 RBI in 92 games. His 15 stolen bases in 16 attempts represent his best fantasy contribution.

Chris Owings went 3-for-5 with a triple, a double and three RBI in the rout of the Mets on Thursday.

All three RBI came on his bases-loaded triple off Jon Niese. That gives Owings 13 RBI in 62 at-bats against left-handers this season, matching his total from his 183 at-bats against right-handers.

Chris Owings went 1-for-3 and drove home a run on Sunday as the Diamondbacks were routed by the Dodgers in Los Angeles.

Owings delivered an RBI single in the fourth inning that gave the D'Backs an early 3-0 lead, unfortunately, that was the extent of their scoring in the contest. He's now hitting .264/.314/.385 with two homers, 22 RBI and nine stolen bases on the season.

Chris Owings went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base in his first game back from the disabled list on Saturday.

The stolen base is a good sign that the foot injury that kept him on the DL for six weeks is a thing of the past. He doesn't have much power, so his .284 batting average and his nine stolen bases are the only stats keeping him on the fringe of fantasy usefulness.

Diamondbacks activated INF/OF Chris Owings from the 15-day disabled list.

He's active and with the club for Saturday's game. Owings has been sidelined since June 11 due to plantar fasciitis in his left foot. He's expected to platoon in center field with Michael Bourn.

Chris Owings (foot) is expected to rejoin the Diamondbacks within the next week.

Owings played in back-to-back rehab games with Triple-A Reno on Tuesday and Wednesday, going a combined 5-for-9 with a walk, four RBI, and two runs scored. He has been on the disabled list since June 11 due to a flareup of plantar fasciitis in his left foot. The righty-swinging 24-year-old can platoon in center field with lefty Michael Bourn.

Chris Owings (foot) took at-bats in a simulated game on Thursday.

Owings had been hoping to be playing in rehab games by now, but he is making progress. "That’s a step in the right direction," Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said of the simulated game. Owings should be cleared for game action soon if all goes well.

Chris Owings (foot) could begin a rehab assignment with rookie league Arizona by the middle of the week.

The hope is that Owings will be ready for activation from the disabled list sometime during the Diamondacks' homestand, which begins on June 27. He's missed over a week of action with plantar fasciitis in his left foot but has apparently made progress in recent days.

Diamondbacks placed OF/IF Chris Owings on the 15-day disabled list with plantar fasciitis in his left foot.

The move was made retroactive to June 6 so it's possible Owings could be back in less than two weeks. He's had a bigger impact than expected, hitting .285 with eight steals in 54 games. David Peralta will continue to man center field in his absence.

Chris Owings (foot) is out again Wednesday.

This will be the third straight day off for Owings, who has been bothered by foot discomfort. Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale suggested Tuesday that it might be plantar fasciitis, which can nag for months and even years. David Peralta is starting in center field and batting cleanup Wednesday afternoon against the Rays.
