Astros optioned OF Domingo Santana to Triple-A Fresno.
The Astros needed to clear a roster spot for Jake Marisnick. Santana hit .256 with 2 HR and 8 RBI during his 14-game stint with Houston. The 22-year-old has a higher ceiling than Alex Presley and could get another call-up while George Springer is on the disabled list with a broken wrist. Jul 4 - 5:26 PM

Domingo Santana went 1-for-2 with his second home run of the season in Monday's loss to the Angels.

Santana broke a scoreless tie in the third inning with a solo home run off of Hector Santiago. He was pinch-hit for in the eighth with Preston Tucker. Santana has started only four games and is 3-for-12 overall with a pair of home runs and five RBI.
Jun 23 - 1:38 AM

Domingo Santana launched his first major league home run Thursday against the Rockies.

It was a pinch-hit three-run shot off Scott Oberg in the eighth inning. Colby Rasmus is due to come back from the bereavement list on Friday or Saturday, so the expectation has been that Santana will be headed back to Triple-A. However, that could change depending on Jake Marisnick's hamstring.
Jun 18 - 6:52 PM

Domingo Santana will start in left field and bat seventh Tuesday against the Rockies.

Santana was called up Tuesday with Colby Rasmus going on the bereavement list. He'll likely be sent back down to Triple-A in a couple of days.
Jun 16 - 11:42 AM

Astros recalled OF Domingo Santana from Triple-A Fresno.

Santana has hit a robust .320/.444/.584 with 11 homers and 38 RBI for Fresno this season. He'll likely only be up for a few days while Colby Rasmus is on the bereavement list.
Jun 15 - 11:37 PM

Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports that the Astros are slated to recall Domingo Santana.

He'll likely only be up for a few days while Colby Rasmus is on the bereavement list. Santana had an awful time in his brief cup of coffee last season, going hitless in 17 at-bats while striking out 14 times. He's rebounded with a monster season at Triple-A Fresno this year, though, batting .320/.444/.584 with 11 homers and 38 RBI (though he's still striking out a ton with 69 whiffs in 241 plate appearances.
Jun 15 - 7:51 PM

Astros prospect OF Domingo Santana went 3-for-3 with his 11th home run of the season on Monday for Triple-A Fresno.

He plated two in the game in addition to drawing a walk. Santana is having another strong season in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League, batting .305/.431/.582 with 24 extra-base hits and 31 RBI through 51 games. The 22-year-old corner outfielder has been hot of late, going 7-for-12 (.583) with four extra-base hits, six RBI and four walks in his last four games. Strikeouts continue to be an issue for Santana, with 64 in 216 plate appearances this season (29.6%), but his season walk rate currently sits at a career-best 17.6%. Santana received his first taste of the major leagues in 2014 but went 0-for-18 with 14 strikeouts. It likely will take an injury for Santana to see significant time in the Astros’ outfield this season.
Jun 9 - 2:02 PM

Astros outfield prospect Domingo Santana launched two homers Tuesday in a win for Triple-A Fresno.

By doing so, he extended his hitting streak to 15 games, the longest active streak in the Pacific Coast League. The 22-year-old has hit .393 with 11 RBI during that stretch. Santana is third in the league in home runs (10), third in slugging (.649) and first in OPS (1.071). He's No. 67 on MLB.com's list of the top-100 prospects.

May 20 - 3:22 PM

Astros prospect Domingo Santana blasted a pair of homers Sunday in a win for Triple-A Fresno.

Santana used Sunday's bounce-back effort to snap a 2-for-14 drought. The 22-year-old is batting a steady .286, though it's come with 29 strikeouts in 70 at-bats. This could be the start of something big as Santana's production is known to come in spurts. He already has two multi-home run games this season. Santana is MLB.com's 70th-ranked prospect.

May 4 - 2:27 PM

Astros prospect Domingo Santana cracked three hits Sunday in a win for Triple-A Fresno.

All three of his hits went for extra bases as Santana tormented Reno with two homers and a double. Santana's four RBI represent a new season-high. Houston's third-ranked prospect on MLB.com still strikes out too much (23 Ks in 52 at-bats), but it's easy to look past that when Santana is hitting a robust .308 with a .673 slugging percentage. He should get another chance in the big leagues later this year.

Apr 27 - 2:43 PM

Astros prospect Domingo Santana starred with four hits Tuesday for Triple-A Fresno.

He finished a triple shy of the cycle. Santana entered the game hitting just .242 so it's not like he's been crushing it all year. Santana went hitless in 17 at-bats during a short stint with Houston in 2014. The 22-year-old may see more action at the big league level this year, but right now he's probably better off in Fresno.
Apr 22 - 3:25 PM

Astros optioned OF Domingo Santana to Triple-A Fresno.

Santana struck out 14 times in 18 hitless plate appearances last season and struck out six times in 10 hitless plate appearances this spring. The 22-year-old has big raw power, but more seasoning is definitely in order.
Mar 13 - 8:49 AM

Domingo Santana went 0-for-2 on Sunday and is 0-for-6 with four strikeouts this spring.

We wouldn't usually recommending reading too much into 17 at-bats, but Santana's handful of major league appearances last year (0-for-17, 14/1 K/BB) were so bad that his prospect stock took a major hit. The Astros declined to call him back up in September after sending him down, and he's not being considered for the outfield opening this spring, even though he finished up at .296/.384/.474 with 16 homers in 443 at-bats in Triple-A. He'll probably be an early cut if this keeps up.
Mar 8 - 5:30 PM

Astros outfield prospect Domingo Santana went 3-for-4 with a home run for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Monday.

The 22-year old Santana has hit .295 .379 .475 wit 25 doubles, one triple, and 15 home runs over 107 games. He has also struck out 131 times in 456 plate appearances (28.7 percent). Santana struggled in the major leagues, going 0-for-17 with one walk and 14 strikeouts. He has the potential to be a solid starting outfielder who hits 20 home runs, but his strikeouts will remain a problem during his career. Santana is still very young, and will be given every opportunity to reach his potential.

Astros optioned OF Domingo Santana to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

It's been a rotten beginning to Santana's career, as he's gone 0-for-17 with 14 strikeouts. Dexter Fowler (intercostal) will be activated from the DL Wednesday to take his spot on the roster.
